That's what happens when developers and their new overlords try to make what is supposed to be a sequel "accessible" to newcomers. All our "major" choices are sidelines or reduced to minor things.

Hopefully when ME3 rolls around, our choices will actually have a much bigger part. And our ME1 LIs aren't swept further under the rug.

They wont be swept under any more than all the other me2 squad mates.

Well, heres to hoping we get some information next week, otherwise I might have made a mistake getting ME2 ready for playing the DLC so soon, as I dont know if I can hold my interest in the game long enough.

Aside from the Liara content, I tend to get bored of cover based shooting quite quickly. Still, with luck this will be the most dialogue heavy DLC so far. Thats what Im hoping at least.

A thought crossed my mind. It's rather tied to whether or not Bioware made Shepard surviving the Suicide Mission absolute canon.

Because if Bioware feel the need to compensate for the possibility of Shepard dying during ME2 in whatever lore they have lined up for post-ME3, then it would stand to reason that they would need someone else who is absolutely crucial to stopping the Reapers.

And this of course leads to the fact that Liara is unkillable, and therefore a candidate for being that crucial player.

But this is assuming that Bioware haven't made Shepard surviving absolute canon. And I'm not sure how Liara being given the majority of the retrospective credit would sit with a lot of players. I have a hunch it would *not* be well.

Edit: Forgot to add the "not" in the "it would not be well". Oops.

No I think the fact that they have said ME2s Shepard death ending is a definitive ending to the Mass Effect story and flat out cannot be imported to ME3 is clear enough.

They might have spoilt Shepards character somewhat with the streamlining/dumbing down, and basically further reinforcing the "third person narrative" of "Shepard is not your character, regardless of what we have said in the past", but I still think Shepard is the protagonist for all three games.

The ME2 Shepard death ending does not carry into ME3 - we have been told that clearly enough now. Making it do so would be far too complicated now.

Liara should just reprise her role from ME1 as a squadmate with crucial information that is important to the plot. Hopefully this DLC might set such a thing up for ME3 better.Id certainly be pleased if thats what the DLC was doing, and it counted towards the "bridging the gap for ME3".

You can't import a dead shepard. So they don't need to compensate for it.

Heres something to think about over what is doubtless going to be a slow weekend. A lot of people are clamoring for Liara to acknowledge certain characters in the new DLC. Given how much fuss it would be for a simple voiced comment, Im wondering if it could be more along the lines of the Overlord DLC Legion mention. Yeah, its only one way, but having Liara acknowledge Tali, Garrus or Miranda in an optional sentence while they are away is at least more satisfying than not acknowledging them at all.

I guess its already set in motion now though, and that if they didnt consider it when Liaras dialogue was being recorded, its going to be yet another jarring experience.

I don't care much about that. As long as she at least acknowledges Shepard and the relationship they had.

Oh, I wouldn't be dissapointed either way. It was just an idle wondering.

Well, I very much hope they still have one, but as you know, ME 2 left us in the dark about that detail. <_<

Okay, well Gamescom over in Duetschland is coming up in four days. EA's press conference lineup doesn't include Mass Effect at this time, but still, here's to hoping for LOTSB information.

WAIT! I know what Bioware have planned for the surprise in the Liara DLC! It won't be any sort of twist that will affect Shepard and Liara's storylines, nor will it be a new item or gameplay mechanic.

No; it will be the glorious return of the Mako.

Both the Mako and Hammerhead suck.

They just suck in diffrent ways.

Beside I don't wanna waste 30-60 minuttes on a crappy vehicle sections especially when the DLC is proberly just gonna take 4 hours at most.

But if you were forced to choose, which one would you take?

That might be one of the most difficult questions ever.

But honestly?

The Mako, because it doesn't explode at the first sigh of trouble. And it's problems could get reduced if the map design is smart.
