Brilliantly well thought out posts, J. I agree with virtually everything you have to say, and the manner in which you have analysed and studied Liara's character is admirable. Well done!

This.
I think J should be a journalist and she deserves a cookie!  :wizard:

The theory that Liara may enter a position of political, social or cultural power following the events of ME3 is an interesting one, and something that I happen to believe in and adhere to. Liara has had her eyes opened to the suffering that exists within the galaxy, and the strife endured by it's inhabitants. Considering Liara's compassionate nature, a fundamental and inherent trait of her personality, is it not logical to assume that she would use her hypothetical power and influence in order to improve galactic society and civilisation as much as possible? In that respect, is Liara destined to ultimately follow in Benezia's footsteps after all?

Liara in politics, eh? Could potentially factor into ME 3 perhaps (though it is unlikely). If she does get a chance to assist the Commander, and if the Council begins to debate about confronting the Reapers directly, I could almost imagine Liara stepping up before the assembly and delivering a speech. Not reciting it boringly, but with compassion and conviction.

Something perhaps similar to this:

(Note: male version used for conveniance. Substitute 'he/him' for 'she/her' where applicable)

"Since he first became a Spectre, Commander Shepard has staked everything - his ship, his career, even his life - to stop the galactic genocide of the Reapers. Right now, the Reapers are advancing on the galaxy, destroying all in their wake, leaving NOTHING behind.

And you, members of the Council, reject these claims, requesting more evidence of the Reapers' existance?

I ask you, Councillors ... How much more evidence will you need when these abominations appear above the skies of the Ciadel? Will you continue to deny the evidence already before you, given to you in trust through an operative YOU accepted?

Right now, men and women are dying at th hands of the Reapers. They will not stop, not now nor ever, until the last life is expunged from the galaxy! Are you willing to have the blood of millions on your hands?

If you do not - if you are willing to take your stand on the behalf of the people who placed you on the Council - all that I ask, nay, all that I beg of you, is that you do what you must to support your people in this darkest of hours.

Take Shepard's words as truth and send your forces to confront the Reapers - or this will mark the end of all."

Another week... another week without so much as a peep from Bioware in regards to Lair Of The Shadow Broker...

Sigh. It's well past "heading into August" Bioware!

My guess is that someone payed for an exclusive. I just can't believe they'd say nothing, if they're changing the Adept somehow.

I see Liara a bit like the Bartender on Illium(forgot her name)...she tolds you how she tried to convince the asari to push the boundarys and build Mass Relays on their own...thats where I see Liara in the future too. After all the experience with the war against the Reapers she will try to pull the Asari a bit out of the tradition and get them to evolve and expand in the interest of the galaxy safety and stability.

Would put her in uncanny valley territory. That make-up results in her looking a bit closer to human.

Make-up? Besides, that didn't seem to be a problem for all the other Asari, at least not for me.

I see Liara more as an example of what Matriarch Aethyta was asking for when she talked about young asari working rather than dancing and joining merc bands as young asari.

Liara has spent her "hellraising years" as one of the foremost experts on the protheans and the prothean extinction.

Liara, Wrex and Garrus are the three "rebel aliens" in ME1, who introduce their species and explain them to the player by being an individual thats contrary to their species norms.

I can easily imagine Liara following her mother in the distant future, but I always expect her to have that desire for some isolation in her personality. That love of solitude. It didnt strike me as some "phase" she was going through as a young asari on her own for most of the time. It just struck me as part of her personality, as much as her love of knowledge and learning secrets is.

I think they intended some of Liara's personality shift to signify her stepping out of her mother's shadow a little.  The two weren't on speaking terms long before the events of ME1 after all, but it's hard to interpret given how messed up the presentation is.

As far as the squaddies go, I think they're supposed to be heroic examples of their own species rather than rebels.  Garrus "not a good turian" Vakarian for instance, just has the stones to find a new hierarchy when his old one is blatantly wrong.  He still follows Shep around in a way that canon leads us to believe is stereotypical for his race though.

Oh, just because they arent the typical asari for example, doesnt mean they dont share typical traits in other ways.

Liara might be moving faster than other asari would like, which doesnt get her research the recognition it deserves, but she still shares other traits like seeking the peaceful soloutions to problems.

Wrex might be less bloodthirsty than most Krogan, but thats only because he has a wisened approach to fighting.

Garrus as you say may not like "the regs", but he still respects authority, and follows Shepards lead pretty much without question. He also has the sometimes idiotic "shoot first and ask questions later" attitude of his species.

You know, Liara focusing on the Shadow Broker is similar in many ways to that of her studies of the Prothean Extinction.

Both require a large amount of dedication. They are both deeply complex mysteries that need to be peeled back and studied layer by layer. Liara herself compairs the two.

Another similarity is Liara's solitude. During her archeological studies it was literal. Now, during the Shadow Broker, it's figurative and possibly even more pronounced. She is alone, surrounded by people, noise and the dark underbelly of the galactic stage.

But what is shared almost exactly between the two is the fact that what she is doing is something that she can focus on, something that she feels will make a difference. I think that, even she knew it wasn't what her mother wanted for her, Liara wanted her discoveries in her investigations of the Prothean Extinction to make her mother proud.

Liara has had one goal or another to achieve almost her entire life. I think that's a big part of what drives her. And she wants the achievement of these goals to make a difference, to be relevant. I think this springs from her own desire to step out of her mother's shadow, which I think she feels would be the same as obscurity.

And on a less introspective note, I'm really hoping for a cinematic display of Liara's biotics. What was seen in Redemption was really something to behold.

Maybe a rematch with Harbinger in an epic biotics fight at the climax of ME3?

You know, for Lair Of The Shadow Broker, there's one thing I'd like to see: The "Vigil" theme played during one of your interactions with Liara. Perhaps after the DLC's climax. The Virmire Survivor and Wrex got it, and I really really like that theme.

Im not sure, I think I would prefer some original music. Even if they played the love theme from ME1, its still taking a theme associated with ME1 and reusing it as opposed to making something new.

Id like some new music to associate with Liara with this DLC.

Well, yes of course I'd like to see some original music. All the DLC has had its own music and themes. I have no doubt this will have the same. Whether there will be separate themes, with one dedicated to Liara, remains to be seen.

How about a remix then?

It could play when Liara opens up. Then if the player cheated on her it could be more sad or something.

That reminds me of one thing: I don't think cheating will be adressed in this DLC. I think that will be saved for ME3. And unfortunately, that would logically mean that there wouldn't be any substantial romance material in it either, being saved for ME3.

I think the Vigil song is the Wrex theme anyway, or at least they play that when you meet him again.

They'll probably come up with something different.  Seems like these DLCs are mostly a way to keep the audio and map design people occupied between projects.
