Liara sure is great, isn't she?

Liara is my favorite character in the ME universe.

Having just played his loyalty mission, I have to say that Garrus edges her out foir the #1 spot with me.  However, He's my Sheps dammed near brother.  Eternal wingman and battle buddy.  Shep would go to the wall for Garrus, and vise versa.

Liara is the person Vanessa Shepard loves, so it's a whole new scale.

Bioware are admittedly very inclined to cater to new fans. For this reason; I have to wonder if in LotSB, the player can have a loner Shepard initiate a romance with Liara in addition to there being a continuation of the romance for imported Shepards.

There would be two sides to that, I think. On the one hand, I think it would be interesting, I wasn't all that satisfied with the execution of the Liara romance in ME1, to be honest.

On the other hand, it could come off as being a lessening to Liara's character integrity. I don't agree with this, but I know someone who does think this.

Bioware are obviously treating this DLC as a big deal, so, why not wonder?

See I thought the ME1 romance was by far superior to the romance scenes of ME2 which from what I've seen were pretty lame and had me wonder if EA or the threat of potential pressure from critics would influence the develpoment of romantic scenarios in subsequent productions avoiding intimacy. I hope that's not the case since a romance scenario with Liara toned down from ME1 would  in my opinion would lessen the character of the Shepard/ Liara romance. I hope BW has the quads to move forward.

The barbie-doll sex scenes sure are lame. But to be honest I couldn't care less if it's just a kiss-then-fade-to-black or a sex scene (as long as they are tasteful like ME1's) because that's not what important for me when it comes to the romances.

Agreed. Intimate dialogue , facial expression, body language could depict a level of romance that surpasses what occurred in ME1 however a visual similar to ME1 to accompany would be quite powerful

The closest ones in ME2 to that are Garrus and Tali, so it figures they're from ME1 themselves.

Jack's body language, the tone of her voice, and the look in her eyes, during her final romance scene, speak volumes.

Now, this is very true. I was very impressed with it.

I quite liked Thane's romance. My opinions of Miranda's romance is exactly inverse of my opinion of Liara's. I don't like Liara's romance until the love scene while Miranda's love scene spoils the whole thing.

I have no idea what they'll do regarding the ME3 squad, though I do expect new LI options. If Ash/Kaidan/Liara fans get full romance continuation a la TOB while ME2 LIs get a few lines (or vice versa), I'm leaving the for my own safety.

Plenty of room if you don't mind sharing with someone who genuinely loves the ME2 team. I suspect I won;t get what I want in ME3, but I;ll try not to be vocally bitter.

Sorry, Tali and Garrus were mercenaries just like the rest in ME2. Their mission was completed and now they should make way for other squamates having a secod game.

I mean, I remember how opinionated folks were when the ME1 LIs were announced as cameos. If now all of sudden folks find the attitude distasteful, well ....Lets see now..... Oh, thats right! Tough.

Tali and Garrus werent "saved" for ME3. I dont see why they should get as good or a better role than the characters who were and missed out on most of ME2, like the very character this thread represents: Liara.

I for one am not so sure about that. I personally wouldn't miss anyone except Miranda and Mordin. And it would of course be interesting to see the reaction of those who see no problem with the trashing of the ME 1 companions as long as they got what they wanted. But I can imagine the ME 2 crew being the ME 3 crew.

It never made sense to me that they tossed aside the established and well-liked ME 1 companions. But the announcement of the PS 3 version seems to indicate one thing: ME 2 is the new ME 1, and that's the explanation. So now that they've sidetracked everything from ME 1 that they didn't want to maintain, or reintroduced what they wanted to keep, they have their new ME 1. And then of course it wouldn't be surprising if they made ME 3 a real successor this time, keeping the same crew.

I hope that at least Liara will still play a role. The DLC will probably answer this question. The question is whether it will allow the romance to continue (instead of being the finish to it), and if it establishes an ongoing role for Liara (instead of finishing her story). We'll see soon enough.

My guess is significant ones might have full run in ME3, even if they could be killed, how much memory does one character take? You have to try to kill Miranda, it would be strange leaving her as a cameo. Tali was also written to either die or stay. However there is the problem of giving a especific role to a character who might be dead. A stand in would cheapen it a lot. Anybody who killed Wrex can tell me the differences? I guess krogan politics were different, but gameplay?

I dont believe the ME2 crew is being "set up" as continued squadmates through ME2 for ME3. Three reasons are that firstly, that doesnt support a "standalone" game as there is too much immediate history. Second, they are potentially dead, and according to CHud, "werent saved for ME3" unlike the ME1 LIs. Finally, again, according to CHud, "meeting new characters is part of the fun", and even if people disagree and "dont want another game recruiting" (tough Im afraid), they cant deny its a standard facet of a Bioware game.

The squad WILL be reset again before ME3. It is inevitable, otherwise Bioware has lied about making each game accessible to newcomers, and "standalone".

As for Liara in this DLC, I too feel its going to say a lot, particularly the "continuing the romance". Is it going to be a reminder and continuation because she is coming back for ME3? Or is it instead going to be a final farewell to being a squadmate, and that she is only getting a supporting role in ME3.

When I said you had an opinionated version, I suppose I meant that you have a very strong opinion about your version that you tend to get rather worked up about. And that's entirely your perogative, just as long as you remain civil.

For the record, I also think that Tali and Garrus aren't going to return for ME3. That being said, the cameos in ME2 were for the most part bad, and I wouldn't wish them on any character.

Bioware messed up with the LI cameos in ME2. They made a mistake and I for one do not think Bioware are looking to repeat it, and secondly, I'd be very disappointed were Bioware to do it on purpose, as what you're suggesting is coming of as.
