I for one am not so sure about that. I personally wouldn't miss anyone except Miranda and Mordin. And it would of course be interesting to see the reaction of those who see no problem with the trashing of the ME 1 companions as long as they got what they wanted. But I can imagine the ME 2 crew being the ME 3 crew.
It never made sense to me that they tossed aside the established and well-liked ME 1 companions. But the announcement of the PS 3 version seems to indicate one thing: ME 2 is the new ME 1, and that's the explanation. So now that they've sidetracked everything from ME 1 that they didn't want to maintain, or reintroduced what they wanted to keep, they have their new ME 1. And then of course it wouldn't be surprising if they made ME 3 a real successor this time, keeping the same crew.
I hope that at least Liara will still play a role. The DLC will probably answer this question. The question is whether it will allow the romance to continue (instead of being the finish to it), and if it establishes an ongoing role for Liara (instead of finishing her story). We'll see soon enough.
I dont believe the ME2 crew is being "set up" as continued squadmates through ME2 for ME3. Three reasons are that firstly, that doesnt support a "standalone" game as there is too much immediate history. Second, they are potentially dead, and according to CHud, "werent saved for ME3" unlike the ME1 LIs. Finally, again, according to CHud, "meeting new characters is part of the fun", and even if people disagree and "dont want another game recruiting" (tough Im afraid), they cant deny its a standard facet of a Bioware game.
The squad WILL be reset again before ME3. It is inevitable, otherwise Bioware has lied about making each game accessible to newcomers, and "standalone".
As for Liara in this DLC, I too feel its going to say a lot, particularly the "continuing the romance". Is it going to be a reminder and continuation because she is coming back for ME3? Or is it instead going to be a final farewell to being a squadmate, and that she is only getting a supporting role in ME3.
