My current ME1 replay (in prep for LotSB) has produced this video with Liara dialog I've never heard before (as I was always pleasant with her...but this Shepard is different).

She didn't take too kindly to getting called 'obsessed'.

*comes in 10 hours later*
Your renegade shep looks almost like my All-out paragon Shep, guess we both like to build off the basic Jane Shepard face B)
And this gave me some ideas for my next sheps personality, very nice. ME1 here I go.

Yes, this is a very interesting Shepard to roleplay....she's full of anger and hatred (she has the Colonist background) and unfortunately takes it out on those that care for her.  She will eventually wake up, though :P

I do like the basic Jane face structure.  The others just seem off.

I can imagine, my last attempt at a paragade ended up complete paragon anyway :pinched: But trying harder and getting into the characters head would be more interesting, I'll definitely do that this time around.

I know what you mean, it's the best face. Might be why they chose it as the official one.

I've had difficulty playing as a more Renegade character too in the past. But this time around, I really focused on fleshing out her back story before hand, so even though it pained me to be mean to Liara, I kept telling myself that this is what this Shepard would do, and she's the boss! She will inevitably fall for Liara and will soften up a bit. Until it all goes to hell in ME2.

@jlb524: She becomes the meanest piece of work in the galaxy by ME2? How do you think LotSB and Liara might change that though? Or maybe you don't want to plan ahead?

I don't know. It all hinges on what will happen in LotSB. I envision things will go well with Liara at the end, so Liara will again provide a soothing presence in her life, thus she will soften up a bit in ME3. If things go bad, well....she might be pure Renegade in ME3 ;)

Oh, and I ran into a lovely version of the ME2 Omega 4 relay picture scene featuring extra footage from ME1. If any are interested.

I hope we can start a romance with Liara in the DLC if the Shepard is single. Would be a great start to one my Shepard's redemption.

From the (roleplaying) perspective of that Shepard, what features and traits in Liara would he/she see in Liara that would make him/her interested?

EDIT: Clarification.

I'd like to see that done too. Although, I would probably like to see Liara being independently available in ME3 even more.

It had the potential to be a great romance. I would love the chance to roleplay a Shepard who was not interested in starting a romance with Liara in ME1, but over time, their strong friendship and unwaivering loyalty grows into true love. And yes; I am aware of how sappy that sounds. Posted Image

I don't feel like spending 30 minutes re-telling this Shepard's backstory again, so I'll copy+paste this one I posted a few weeks ago.

"Charlie Shepard is somewhat of a good guy gone bad. He was raised in the
streets and were taken in by one of the local gangs when still young.
Althrough a decent person, he was manipulated by the older members (due
to being young) to go down a path he hated. By time he had grown up, he
had become one of the most succsesful members in the gang. Having commit
everything from theivery and murder to get to the top. Sadly a tragedy
involing he's only good friend death made him leave his original life
and join up with the alliance in the search of something better. His
faith in things were almost shattered after the events of Akuze where he
lost most of his new found friends, it made him emotionally distant
from most things. Due to the gain of a almost supestitus fear that
growing close to something will end hurting it.

During the
events of ME1 he finally decided that it was time to let his emotional
walls down and try make real contact to his crew. He became good friends
with everyone, but didn't romance either Liara or Ashley despite having
feelings for both of them. He ultimativly believed that both deserved
someone better than him (he also only saw women as objects of pleasure
until he joined the alliance). The death of Ashley on Virmire and the
alliance greedy power-grab in the aftermath of the war, ultimativly
shattered his belief in anything good and by time of ME2. He's a cold
hearted thug who only looks out for himself.

So yeah. That's how I
roleplay one of my Shepards, paragon gone renegade. He didn't romance
Liara, but i'm maybe planning to do that with him ME3 (sorta like having
Liara help redeem him)."

Since he's obviously lost perspective and don't care about anyone but himself anymore. I thought the way that his redemption should start was with the death of Tali. Her death "awoke" him again so to speak, made him realise that his attitude got her killed (I sided with Legion during the fight, and assiged her as tech specialist), and maybe he does care after all.

Ah, her blue chill-pill :D Hope it turns out like that, playing renegade because the character feels abandoned/betrayed can be quite taxing.

That. Was. Nice. Now I almost feel a little miffed though that they didn't make the original scene like that, with a short cutscene of memorable scenes with your LI from ME1.

A general question regarding roleplay: Do you guys work hard in your characters backstories or try to keep general pointers in your head while playing?

Personally I've tried to keep it all in my head so it won't be "What would John Doe do in this situation" and checking the "script". But I've been thinking about moving on to do some really serious fleshing out of my characters backstories.

I know I'm off topic here, but I'm curious to how people do this.

Say, this Charlie Shepard, he wouldn't happen to look anything like this would he?

No, I use Sheploo as always. Mostly because it's in HD quality and I fail as creating custom faces.

I make up my characters backstory as I play the game. But yes, I do have a few pointers in my head.

Any particular reason why you wouldn't do a "serious" backstory?

I'm not sure I understand you :?.

Not a serious backstory? I find the backstory I just mentioned serious enough. Just because I make it up as I play game doesn't make it any worse.

Here's another thing I've said (it was in the same post as the one with the backstory). Hopefully it will show you how I create my characters.

"To start off: I never ever sat down and write a backstory to any
character I made before creating it. Most of the time, the backstory is
made up in my head as I play throughout the game.

A good example
would be my renegade female Shepard, who is a vanguard and has a
colonist/ruthless background. As I played the game I asked myself, what
makes her have such a cold outlook on life and death and why is she such
a xenophope. Then I started imagineing that the parrents who she grew
up with were pro-humans, and their ideals and view on things were
teached on to her. Her view were twisted and taken to the extreme with
the attack on Mindor, making her believe that all aliens only have
hostile intentions against humans and that they (the aliens) should just
be conquered."

A bad choice of words on my part, I just wondered if you had a reason for keeping the backstory in your head or if it just turned out that way and it felt comfortable.

I'm not saying one way is better or worse than the other, I'm just curious as to how people go about creating their characters.

Yeah, I was thinking the same, though, I think there would be technical limitations in implementing old ME1 romance scenes, given that every Shepard looks different.  They could have shown flashbacks of Liara scenes that did not involve Shepard though.

TO INDIGO: Any chance the picture you sent is some actor who plays a role in some series or something that my character reminds of? :P

I always flesh out the characters before hand.  Sometimes even after I play with a Shepard, I change the story and go back and replay both ME1/ME2.

I've played my main Shepard through ME1/ME2 about 4 times each this past year.  She was the only Shepard I had for a long time.  Recently, I created the Renegade Shepard seen in that vid, and I also created a Shepard in ME2 that stayed single in ME1.  I hope to start a romance with Liara with her in ME3 (or LotSB).

I have fleshed out all their stories, and will eventually write about each...eventually :P

I suppose your right, maybe recreating say, the locker scene with the shep in play... Oh well, it didn't happen.
Another thing that would have been interesting would have been to be able to actually make choices regarding what to do with the photo depending on how you feel towards the old LI. Like getting the option to go on with the romance or turning down the LI, but only it's with a photo and represents your mindset towards the person.

I form a basic sketch based upon the different predictions I think each combination of background stories can produce in a Shepard.  I roleplay from that point on.

Sole Survivor goes especially well with Jack, I think, and I have a Sole Survivor Shepard I've paired with her.

That's interesting.  I know there are a few players that did not want to continue on with the old ME1 LI, but they also didn't like any of the ME2 LIs.  The picture scene seems to almost be forcing you to still care for and miss the old LI.  I'm fine with this, of course, but I know some that weren't.

I really just wanted to change the picture (I hate the blush they added to Liara) but I can do that since I use the PC version of the game :wizard:

I basically would have wanted this option anytime in the game, like even going as far as deleting the picture if you were feeling betrayed for example. It would have been a nice way for a character to say "I'm done with him/her!" Or "I'm not giving up on him/her!" But only to themselves of course. Having a mailconversation would have been quite interesting as well. And probably unsatisfying, forget I mentioned it.

You PC dudes and dudettes has got it too easy :P

Yeah, I know what you mean.  The only way to say that you are done with an ME1 LI is to pick an ME2 LI (and even that doesn't clearly end the ME1 relationship) and the only way to show that you still care about the ME1 LI is to not pick an ME2 LI.  Lame, and not very pro-active.
