Well, Shepard did promise Liara not to go and die again....we'll see how that goes.

But, I think that is one promise Shepard can't really make there. But, it doesn't matter, they are together for the time....they will enjoy what they have together in that one fleeting moment.

To be perfectly honest, I think Liara is aware of the fact that Shepard cannot realistically make that promise. Witness the way in which she reacts to Shepard's playful, flirtatious response to a pretty serious and heartfelt question. I think that Shepard was trying to cheer Liara up, and she was realising that she was dwelling on her lover's death, and becoming quite upset.

Furthermore, I think it also represents a quite heartwarming conclusion and resolution of one of the themes surrounding the "rocky second chapter" of Liara's romance. We're shown that the reason as to why she was hesitant to resume her romance with Shepard is due to the fact that she was afraid of getting close to her again, as she was frightened that she would die and be forced to restart the grieving and mourning process all over again. Shepard's death hurt Liara that much, and caused two years of untold pain, despair and misery. However, Liara is indeed conflicted, and desperately wants to resume the romance with Shepard. She's just afraid of having to endure that mourning again...that's all.

Liara's ME2 love scene represents the resolution of this. She reaffirms her love for Shepard, and allows herself to get close to her lover once again. She's willing to risk all of that pain and heartbreak once again, as she loves her so much. It's one of the most touching sentiments in the entire game, and the entire series for that matter. I absolutely love it, and it shows just what kind of a woman Liara is. She's incredibly strong, and devoted.

Agreed, and I definitely feel that they have got something planned with Feron. They've kept him alive for a reason, and it's interesting that it's made perfectly clear that he is still recovering. The possibility exists that, once he has fully recovered from his torture, Liara can temporarily hand him the reigns in order to allow her to rejoin the Normandy's crew at some point in ME3. She may not be a squadmate for the majority of the game, but the possibility exists that she will be a late addition squadmate, and someone that Shepard will call upon for the climatic final battle.

I thought it awesome how BW brought closure to the open questions/ doubts from ME2 but they also opened the door for a story line that could indeed become quite Epic however I think it will take a lot more to get from drinks on the Normandy to little blue babies

All that is missing in my opinion is the removal of the Reaper threat...so that Shepard and Liara can actually start spending time together in totally normal way... free from any "end of the glalaxy" stuff in their minds and any live saving responsibilitys

Edit: Though it probably wont be easy to just simply start living a normal life...or at least try it.

I'm assuming that Liara's ship will be a regular destination in ME3, and will likely act as our main "base" of operations. Considering this, I feel that it is likely that Liara's ME3 romance dialogue will progress in a similar manner to how it did so in ME1. Following the completion of each major plot world, Shepard can speak to Liara in order to progress the romance, similar to how one would converse with a character whilst on board the Normandy. Considering the fact that Liara is also likely to have extensive dialogue if she is indeed Shepard's leading provider of intelligence, information and funds in ME3, then the potential for further character and romance development is immense.

Make no mistake, I definitely feel that the future is bright.

I think the part where Liara says ' I need to know you'll always come back'  where Shepard and Liara are looking at one another eye to eye and that love song is playing. Right before you choose Shepard's response.
That is the most powerful scene in the ME story to date.

The interesting part of it all is that Shepard can push Liara away during the LotSB love scene. Shepard can choose to dwell on their inevitable deaths against the Reapers and whatever other challenges will face them in the upcoming days. Liara wants to know then what's the point of having drinks and conversation today if they will all lose it all tomorrow?  Shepard can choose to reaffirm the importance on now and the fact that this may be one of the last times that they can enjoy each others company and show each other how much they mean to one another.

Or, not....if Shepard keeps pushing the issue, Liara will leave the cabin, stating that she needs to get back to work in order to prepare for the impending doom of the Reapers.

I think this alternate scene shows most definitely that Liara wasn't looking for comfort again (similar to what she says in ME1)....she wasn't looking for Shepard to tell her that everything would be perfect and that they would both survive the upcoming war against the Reapers. But, she still wanted the 'lip service' from Shepard. She wanted Shepard to tell her that she would always be there for her as long as she survived. That if Shepard did survive heading into the fray, that Shepard would come back to her, and only her.

I think the moral to be learned is that Shepard will be always with Liara barring death.

Liara is taking a big risk. We do get to appreciate how much pain she's endured over the past two years and how much she wanted Shepard to realize that. If Shepard pushes her away Shepard clearly doesn't get it and they are unable to continue. Liara needs to know that Shepard cares.

My problem with that 'alternate scene' is that I'm not sure where the relationship is.....I think it's still on....the Liara picture is still there. Do you all know what I mean by 'alternate scene'?

It's an incredibly emotionally charged scene, and extremely powerful and emotionally evocative too. Considering the fact that just prior to that scene Liara was lamenting her lover's death, and showcasing her fear and worry that she will once again leave when the Reapers finally arrive, it's one of the most powerful scenes in the ME trilogy to date.

Hmmm, are you coming to this conclusion when viewing the alternate scene in conjunction with the regular one, in which Liara does break down and begin crying over Shepard's death, and eventually asks her to promise to come back? When studied as a juxtaposition with this scene, the alternate scene does seem to directly confirm what you are suggesting.

I'm just worried that I'm not seeing it as clearly as you are, are that I am unable to perceive how the dialogue in the alternate scene proves that Liara was just looking for lip service. I dunno. I feel stupid.

Yes, both scenes are valid when interpreting the situation. You did watch the other scene, right?

Liara can't be asking for more than 'lip service'....who can realistically promise not to die when they are going up against a fleet of sentient starships hellbent on the destruction of all organic life in the galaxy?

Yeah, I hear ya. I have watched the Renegade outcome of Liara's ME2 love scene, which was a few days after the DLC's release. I don't want to watch it again though, as it's awful. It makes me want to throttle Shepard.

its a lkinda unexplainable "chuckle about cute Liara" moment for me^^

Just like I always love it when Shep says : "Keep dreaming T'soni!" :)
