Ok, it looks good, but first I gotta ask, did you start with an existing face as a background layer and then build off of that? or something like that?

as far as criticisms, i hate sounding critical of other people's work... but...
you need to watch the shape of the forehead, remember the tenticle things follow a natural human hairline, yours is dipping off along the sides a bit much, perhaps rework that or move the eyes/nose down an eye hight.

second, um... the mouth...:?

again, i hate to come down on other artists, especially when i haven't got my own site up and running.

Hmm I know what ya mean..now that I look at my Liara refs I see the "to low" forehead.
Yeah I still need to add a lot of detail...but I wanted to do that later when everything is done once so that you could watch it in low resolution...then detail it up for high resolution beginning with the mouth for example.

and nothing wrong with some criticism...I just started with digital painting so I'm glad for every honest comment that helps :)

Well, the cheek bone is a bit weird. Also, it might be better if she had her eyes closed.

EDIT:

Well, the side of her jaw, or whatever. It looks too stretched away from the face.

So I was thinking about Liara's current situation; the position of the Shadow Broker is one that's dramatically different from one she's been in before --and not just for the obvious reasons.

The position of the Shadow Broker is, among other things, a position of widespread leadership, if you think about it. I suspect hundreds of agents and their own people are under her direct command. Those kinds of underlings certainly need supervision and direction, especially since the network's dealings take morality in account a lot more now under Liara's command.

Now, Liara's been in command of her own contact network before on Illium, but nothing to this degree. She had some mercenaries on contract, but that's nothing compaired to the private army she now has at her beck and call.

Liara's never really been a leader like this, I wonder how she will react to the new responsibilities. So far, she's talked a lot about the basic ability of having all the information in the galaxy at her disposal, but not about the issues of commanding such a network.

Personally, I think she can handle it. She has a lot of her mother in her, whether she knows it or not. And this is not a bad thing, as you'll recall Benezia was a well-respected political figure in her time, before she was indoctrinated. And Liara's already taken a step into her mother's shoes, although that one was more questionable. However, I nonetheless think that she will not have as much trouble as she thought she would stepping into the more morally upstanding shoe.

And another thing on a different subject; I wonder if Liara has more information at her disposal than Cerberus?

The basic structure of the Shadow Broker network has existed for the better part of a century by my estimation, and is not hindered by the pro-human agenda and nonhuman discriminations of the Cerberus intelligence network. The Shadow network has top level access to three council races, the combined of which are logistically more powerfull than the Alliance. And as powerful as Cerberus is, I doubt that it could start a war in five minutes. Granted, that could've been a joke on Liara's part, but that's beside the point.

While I'm not sure that the Shadow network has the amount of martial resources at its direct disposal are the same as Cerberus', I think it likely that if need be, Liara could call on other groups to aid her network. For instance, I doubt Tela Vasir was the only Spectre who owed the Shadow Broker a favor.

And one last thing, now there is a certain irony to the SB agent at the end of the Hades' Dogs sidequest who says "We will remember this the next time you need something from us."

Now I kinda want to call the Alliance back up asking for the intel back, I'm sure Liara wouldn't mind something else to catalogue. ;)

Doctor Liara T'Soni I believe can rely upon her intelligence, determination, existing knowledge and skills as well as support from Shepard and Feron to thrive in her current position.

Liara has 50+ years of experience uncovering hidden information. The Shadow Brokers network has been around for longer than that. I'd  venture a guess that if she doesn't have more information than Cerebrus she soon will.

As much as I'd like Liara to be all powerful with the Shadow Broker... I can't see myself being happy with having to travel across the galaxy to go see her all the time. If she's not going to be on the Normandy/Squadmate then she better leave that ship from time to time and assist on missions.

She'll feel like the council, a merchant, or Aria... someone who is always there but never makes an attempt to come help you.

Very cool idea... very original. This is your best one I think of the 3. If I was to add my piece of advice it would be that Liara's jawline is too strong, it's too much like Samara, I'd suggest that you bring it in a bit shallower and make it less pronouced.

Her teeth are amazing though and Kasumi is absolutely stunning. Can't wait for the final result.

I concur; the jawline is a bit too much like Samara's. Ease up on it. Amazing WIP, nonetheless.

Goodwood apologizes for shifting the topic, but he's been playing a lot of Starcraft II lately, and wonders if anyone else in this thread has as well. He suspects that the voice of Dr. Ariel Hanson is in fact Amy Hillis, but he's not been able to confirm this yet. That said, Goodwood would like to point out that, if his suspicion is correct and that the two characters are voiced by the same woman, this only adds to Hillis's epic awesomeness. Goodwood even thinks that she could eventually be just as great as the legendary Jennifer Hale.

Yeah, she's voiced by Ms. Hillis.

I would prefer to have her as a squadmate by far. They already set her up as one and spent quite a long time (read the dev diary) rebuilding stasis. Hopefully, this means she will be a permanent squadmember in ME3; however, I will not get my hopes up.

Hey Goodwood! I also play ST2! Althrough not that much...

And while I love Hillis voice acting, I still didn't care much for that character from ST2.

I wonder if Ali Hillis would be any good at speechification?

I kept Liara around as my LI. It will be worth it IMO. She shows that she cares for Shepard the most and the fact that she helped recover Shepard's body so he could be brought back to life kinda adds to my theory that she cares for Shepard the most.

It would make sense to bring her back in ME3 since she is now the Shadow Broker and still an LI option. I would be surprised if she doesn't play a bigger role in ME3 tho. I would love to have her back in the squad.

Alright; someone please tell me that I am not the only one who noticed the subtle reference to the locker scene in ME1 when Liara helped you up after the fight with the Shadow Broker!
