I guess some people were and are just too annoyed with some things in this thread. I don't blame them.

Plus, LotSB really delivered almost everything that we hoped for. People are usually more active when there is something to complain about, whereas praise is usually not repeated that often. Furthermore, ME 3 has been released months ago, and the forums as a whole aren't as active right now as they were.

There is still ME 3 around the corner though. It does seem as if the developers of LotSB listened to the things said in this thread, so maybe further discussion about what we'd like to see in ME 3 wouldn't be futile.

Hm... I remember there being a debate about not posting too many "happy happy joy joy" picture sequences by the time I was throwing in the towel... I guess that escalated rather badly, huh? Image IPB

Oh well, no matter. I have no wish to stir up things you guys have probably discussed enough in the past.

Hm... What to talk about?

I read a nice Liara fic yesterday, on a happier theme. Not normally a big fanfic aficiando, but I found this one in the Miranda thread. It's a Miri/Liara pairing centered one, and well written too. Kinda fit my mood since I had just attempted to get some discussion going in this thread about possible other choices for a non-Shep romance for Liara... Not even LotSB could save that benighted reptile Feron for me. Image IPB Miranda wasn't an obvious choice to pair Liara up with (for me at least), but the fic seems interesting and well thought out so far... Plus now that Liara has become a power in her own right, she is a match for the other "powerful woman" in the squad, and no longer a "girl". Not that there was anything wrong with "girl" Liara of ME1... The dynamic of equals is just more interesting to me nowadays... It'd be great if Shepard wouldn't be able to "persuade" Liara that much in ME3, and would have to accept or at least be able to live with some of the choices she makes... Just like I hope happens with Miranda in ME3.

Yes, that's the one. Image IPB

I'm eager to read the next chapter.

It's interesting that this thread is so silent, even with the release of LotSB... Did the various bits of infighting really shatter the fandom so badly? Or is it something else...

I was reading the earlier posts, and there was a link to the "Devs really ruined Liara!" thread, which I participated in heavily. Funny, back when we were all furious about the character derailment and wrecking, people were much more unified... Now that the DLC was actually released, and was so good it drew back even curmudgeons such as yours truly, there is seemingly very little discussion to be had.

Look at how many LotSB related post were opened since it was released, and try to add the post count to this thread. It's obvious that after a DLC all the questions are asked in a wide range of thread, instead of going into a single thread. Here there are only specific fans discussion, but not all, there are also the groups.

With the emphasis on "some", I hope. Otherwise, the game could quickly become static, when Shepard can't affect the decisions of companions or even the LI at all. Besides, that would be unrealistic. It's good if they have their own opinions, but of course Shepard needs to have a say in the important decisions.

Most importantly, neither Shepard nor the LI should be killed without a chance for the player to prevent it in ME 3.

I don't know about "static"...

I'm not saying everyone needs to be outside of his/her influence, but I'd prefer it if at least Shepard and Liara were. And you could have an opportunity to give them your mind, or attempt to influnce them. While you possibly might be unable to sway them, your relationship might change depending on your choice, options might open or close for your next actions wrt the person in question etc.

I'm all for Shepard being one of the most powerful and influential people in the Galaxy, but I don't want everyone to be completely malleable. Miranda has been a powerful and independent woman since her introduction in ME2, and Liara has now become one as well, with her own considerable powerbase to boot. Compared to other possible LIs for Shep, I see them as his/her equals in ways the others cannot match. At least yet.

Well, I'm guilty. I'm one of those who romanced Liara in ME1, then went to the next sweet girl (*cough*Tali*cough*) in ME2 after finding Liara so absorbed by revenge (I didn't know about the events in Redemption). I guess LotSB was a lot sweeter for those who nevertheless stayed loyal. It makes me wonder if making her that way at first, was a loyalty test. Between Liara and Tali, I still prefer Liara. She's sexier hands down. But unless the quarian sickness problem is resolved quickly, I don't see a future in quarian love. Exotic, yes, but...

Liara is my Paragon shep girl! He'll be very sad if she's not in ME3.

It's soon holiday for me! I'm thinking that I should perhaps give fanfic-writing a new shot?

Would the SR-1 destruction be good?

How 'bout the aftermath? When Liara and the others see that the last pod only contains Joker... How the "debriefings" were handled? How the crew split up, etc.

You know what? That's a brilliant idea. I always wanted to potray that, a scene where Liara, Tali, Kaidan all tearing Joker a new one!

My only concern is about my own writing skills! :( People enjoyed my first fanfic, problem is, it didn't really have any scenes in it as much as it was more like a huge line of thoughts clumped together.

Maybe. But it isn't exactly uplifting if you hear that everyone thinks your work sucks and is a complete joke.

I'm attempting a very large fan fic with ALL new characters, new plot line, no attachment to the ME series other than the universe. There is even a mild twist at the end!

If you want to avoid people ****ting on yours, we can coordinate release dates? :wizard:

The great thing about writing is that you only have to do two things to get better at it: read and write :) If you even have a line of thoughts clumped together, that beats the hell out of writer's block. It means you have (a) an idea/scene that you think it'd be fun to portray and (B) some idea of what it would look like, how the characters would speak/behave, etc. So no reason not to do it.

BTW, a great book on writing is Stephen King's "On Writing" (and I am not a King fan). It helped me get rid of a lot of misconceptions about things I was "supposed" to be doing as a writer.

Unfortunately the occasional put-down happens and I can't pretend it's any fun. In time you learn to separate the useful criticism from people simply being obnoxious (which usually comes from being afraid to try it themselves).

Edit: By way of example, the first review of jtav's story (http://www.fanfiction.net/r/6393206/) is, in my opinion, an example of useful criticism. Though it might seem a bit blunt (and always more so if you're the author), as you gain confidence in your writing it becomes much easier to take it in the way it's intended.

Go for it! For my part, I've always wanted to see this portrayed.

And like someone else said, you get better by writing and reading more. So give it a shot! Image IPB

Very nice. To coin a phrase, that's an enticing thought, and you carry it off plausibly. And Miranda is an obvious source for some of the moral ambiguity Liara acquires between ME 1 and 2 (and I think there's plenty of it yet to be dug up in both their cases). I'm definitely looking forward to the next part. Also, I'm not particularly a Miranda fan, yet you make her seem more human to me without making her seem like a different character.

My advice to anyone looking to start writing fanfiction is to go for it. Seriously I started my first story (linked in my sig) almost 2 years ago, before ME 2 even came out. I'd never published any work for a public audience before, and had only written a few stories as part of my English GCSE. Since then, it's grown to 60,000 plus words, had over 200 reviews and many more favourites. I've changed my plotline several times, and I still have no real idea where I'm taking it. My point is, is that you don't need to have any real writing experience or even a watertight plot to write something people want to read. As long as you have an interesting set of ideas, and preferably try something that hasn't been done before (I haven't seen any other FemShep/Tali/Liara fics to date), you should be fine.

Listen to me, talking as if I'm some kind of pro. Also, sorry for the offtopic post (My story is about Liara, so that's kinda on-topic, right?)

Thank you.

I appreciate everyone's support. I have started to write it, but I have barely made any progress. I'm struggleling to make a decent intro.

Hey, I never did the Kelly romance, but if you re-romance Liara, can you still call Kelly up to your room?
