After hearing Liara's story about my body i was pretty disturbed and very turned off from her character. Seriously, what she did was borderline insane, definitely obsessive, definitely depressing, and all around revolting. I personally would have rather stayed dead, the galaxy be damned.

Really? Revolting? Rather stay dead? Well I'm glad LotSB changed your mind.

First of all, i will explain my situation with regards to Liara. I romanced her in ME1 because, as a man-shep, it was the least distasteful option. Ash was a xenophobe in a game where the coolest characters are aliens (Garrus, Wrex, Tali).

Liara to me was more of a completionist quest. I didn't really like her character in ME1 because it just felt too awkward for me (I have an overactive guilt reflex, I hate awkward). Come ME2 I almost always romanced Tali (but, indicative of my previously mention guilt reflex and hate of awkward, I skipped through it the first time).

So I simply didn't have the problem you are describing. But then Lair of the Shadow broker came out and boy did my opinion of her change. She was now the most developed and most realized character in the entire game, and I honestly liked her character and what it represented. Yeah I was still a little creeped out by what she did, but like any unstable person, there was a stable person underneath. She may have acted in a way that I found offputting, but in LotSB she shows that she knew it was rash.

She learned from her mistake (IMO) and became a better person, which is why one of my carryover games has her as an exclusive romance.

For the galaxy and the rest of the world it would have rather been better you stayed dead! you´re a bootlicker.

Minor nitpick: When Liara agreed to help Cerberus recover Shepard's body (Redemption 1, towards the very end) neither Miranda nor TIM had told her about the possibility of restoring Shepard at all.

Liara: What would you want with a corpse...
TIM: As an asari, I can't expect you to understand our tradition, but our reasons are not important.

And in Redemption 4 (end) Miranda didn't seem convinced of the odds:

Miranda: [...] it will still take a very long time, if it works at all [...]

Edit: Sorry if this sounds a bit harsh. I can understand why Liara did what she did. I'd like to think that I would act more rationally but I can't be sure of that until I'm actually faced with a decision like this. Unfortunately humans (and presumably asari as well) are not very good at making rational decisions.

To paraphrase Grunt, Liara is Shepard's mate..She has no match.

Best of luck with your choice

Out of sheer curiosity, when does Grunt say that?

And to stay slightly on topic, did anyone else get reminded of the taxi chase scene on ‘The Fifth Element’ during the LotSB car chase? I’m guessing it was probably supposed to be more like the chase in the second movie of the new Star Wars trilogy, but I couldn’t help but picture Leeloo’s yelling in the backseat as something akin to the third squad member’s reaction.

It’s pure win, either way. :D

Bootlicker? Who says that anymore? I simply didn't like the idea of being brought back from the dead. Seriously, no one else has a problem with that?

No one?

He doesn't say that Liara has no match.  He says that Shepard is his battlemaster, and that Shepard has no match.  Grunt says that when he's selecting his krant to go complete the Rite of Passage.

Yeah, I noticed a certain Bruce Willis-factor there as well.

I don't want to think about Star Wars too much, as I'm not a fan of it, so TFE is the next best thing to be reminded of. ;)

By the way, did anyone else think that the in-combat mini conversations between Shepard and Liara in LoTSB seemed a bit .. weird? As if a different writer had been at work?

Shep called her T'Soni instead of Liara, sounded strange. I really don't know where that came from.

Considering that she's his/her (girl)friend, and all.

Some meta game jokes as well. I like those, though ;)

I'll take that as a no. I can't believe no else is disturbed by the whole being brought back to life thing. I can understand how it is beneficial to the Galaxy but still, that's just darn unnatural.

It's an annoying plot device used to reset the game for new players, that's my problem with it.

If you hate it that much, how can bring yourself to play ME2 at all? Also, how exactly does LotSB change your mind about Liara's previous actions in bring you back to life? They still happened after all.

Ah, I though it might be something like that, but I still miss a few choice lines here and there, and I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something awesome. Thank you. Image IPB

I didn't say I hated it, I just said that Liara playing along was a bit disturbing as it was indicative of mental instability. By LotSB she has already worked through that and become a stronger person, that's why I like her as a character more after the DLC.

I still said I found it disturbing.

It's a game. Not real life. I don't see how that disturbs you.

I really don't want to start the same darn argument that led to me leaving the forums six months ago with a new batch of people, so let's just drop it.

Well, Liara calls her girl/boyfriend by the surname as well, so perhaps this was a little playful dig from Shep... Image IPB

Call me weird, but i think my femshep had a loving/teasy tone when she said that. as for some of the other dialogue... it sure was amusing and informative. I thought it fit well with the Liara i know.

I think the "T'Soni" thing was just meant to be offbeat. It didn't work as well as they had hoped, IMO.

Maybe it's just me. But I wouldn't mind in a way being brought back from the dead (as long as it's in a good way ala Shepard). Especially if "it wasn't my time yet".

Quite. I can see an issue with being brought back without memories, but I'm pretty sure I'd want to be brought back otherwise.

Dude, you started it, I suggest you don't go around saying you thought her actions were revolting and she is borderline mentally unstable (before changing your mind because of the DLC). Unsuprisingly, some people don't like that, thought you would of rememered that from last time.

Okay, to offset some of the tension....

Wrex: (to Liara) So, you had to bring him back.

Liara: Yes.

Wrex: Is he really that good of a lover?

Liara: (flushes red) Wrex!!!

I am prone to brutal bluntness and my intentions don't always translate properly on the internet. In real life, I can smile to alleviate other people's offense or I can make a quick joke.

To avoid further problems, now that there is a new crop of Liara fans, I just wanted to say that you should never take my comments as an insult to you or the character you love. I speak my mind honestly and usually completely, and if for some reason someone does take offense to a comment I have made, I usually end up being blunt again and saying way too much about myself in order to express why I think that way.

If one were to look at all my posts that I have ever made, they would find that out of hundreds, over the course of almost a year, I have insulted one person and apologized for it right there in the thread.

I don't post comments to insult, I find insults to be both a waste of time and very distasteful as the only reason to insult someone is to hurt them. I would go so far as to call it evil (my definition is anything done for the sole reason of hurting someone else). Yes, I am calling myself prone to evil, but I like to think it is a minor part of me.

No its not.

Yes it is.

YOURE LYING!!!

AM NOT!!!

If I say something it is because I believe it and want to discuss that belief with others to see how valid it is. I find the forum environment can be stimulating intellectually, which is why I come. This may make my posts seem confrontational, which would likely give you the impression I am trying to troll. If you just remember that I try not to be like that, things would likely go much more smoothly.
