Some of the same people that are today scared of the inevitable cameoing of their ME2 LIs... I'd call it ironic, but...

Here's a lovely little extract I just came across:

Wow.

Are we still on this? ...ReallY?

I hate to come off as insensitive but the people who are still upset about the ME1 love interests not being recruitable squad mates in ME2 should really be over it by now.

that ship has officially sailed, isn't it time to move on?

Judging by the videos and interviews and info that has been released so far, ME2 will probably be a better game than ME1.

I knew that ME1 would be a trilogy before I played ME1. I romanced both Liara and Ashley. My renagade Shepard got with ashley. My Paragon Shepard hooked up with Liara. I intend to carry over both characters to ME2.

during my first playthrough of ME1, when the first Love interests showed up in Shepard's room. I vividly remember thinking: "wow, this is cool... I hope I'm not going to be stuck with this girl for the next game".

I was so relieved to see that we were going to get all new Love interests on the squad!

Shepard is a catch! Shepard is the first human spectre. Shepard is one of the best humanity has to offer. Are there really people out there who want to see Shepard tied down to one love interest or on romantic lockdown for the next 2 or three games??

well, I respect that point of view... I just don't understand it at all.

Waxing some goddamn nostalgic here...

How many posters here were active on The Old Board, before ME2's launch?

I've been reading some of those old threads... Man, were the forumites unsympathetic to ME1 LI fans back then! A lot of good people I had nearly forgotten about posted on that forum, and seemingly didn't make it here or have long since moved on. I don't know why, but it makes me sad. Ah, entropy.

I wonder if the Liara fandom will ever fully heal from all the strife it suffered, since the ME2 spoilers started trickling in around mid 2009?

Most Liara fans just don't post here...for various reasons.  Groups seem to be more popular now.

I don't think there was strife before....true Liara fans banded together and have supported her through the dark times that were ME2 and Redemption.

Now, it seems there are tons of 'OMG, LIARA IS KEWL AGAIN!  GOODBYE TALI!' fans around these parts lately...too many for my tastes.

Heh, touche! Image IPB

I admit, I lost hope for the character after the double Walters whammy of ME2 and Redemption. I still think the character was damaged by those "stories", and I'm not sure if the damage can ever be fully repaired. But I continued to like Liara as she was in ME1. And I like her again now.

And though I might have said so in anger (can't recall), I didn't dump her (as much as you can "dump" a video game character) for another LI. I just took single Shepards through ME1 before ME2's bad features overwhelmed me and I gave up on the game for half a year or so. It took Liara being born anew in LotSB to pull me back. Guess I just couldn't let her go... Image IPB How's that for cheesiness? Image IPB

I like Miranda, but she's not Liara. And she's not Ashley. And ME2 is not ME1.

Sadly, I don't really have all too high hopes for ME3. It will largely be more of the same ME2esque stuff, I predict.

There's a thread titled:

"I'm actually kind of glad there aren't ME1 LIs in ME2"

That I'm thinking of creating for the "benefit" of a few people, when the inevitable cameoing news hits the forums sometime next year.

Recreating, I should say. Delicious. Image IPB

What changed?  That makes no sense...Liara in LotSB is way closer to ME2 Liara than she is to ME1 Liara.

I just don't get how you can go from liking her in ME1, hating her character and bashing her b/c of ME2 (not talking Redemption as that's a piece of crap anyway), then liking her again in LotSB, in which she pretty much acted the same as she did all throughout ME2.

I'll defend my pet ME2 characters to the death. In a weird way, this includes Liara, because I only liked her once the SB plot was introduced. I'd hate to choose between her and Miranda. Fortunately I don't have to.

I really do love the loyal, faithful Liara fans that stuck by her character through the dark times, and were willing to endure the periods of unease and uncertainty.

I really dislike the fairweather Liara fans, bandwagon-jumpers with absolutely no sense of loyalty or dedication at all. Surprise, surprise...they've all magically reappeared following LotSB's release! That really was unexpected.

Pseudo-Liara fans. No credibility at all.

We still don't know who will be companions in ME 3 and who will not. I still suspect that many changes in ME 2 were due to the planned PS 3 version (since those gamers apparently can't play ME 1). Maybe there were other reasons as well why the ME 1 companions weren't approved for ME 2 anymore. So it could be that the ME 2 companions will be the ME 3 companions too.

I for one would not care either way as long as there's some sort of proper continuation and conclusion to Liara's story and romance (proper in my opinion means that there has to be the chance for a happy ending).

I would <3 if you created a thread entilted "i'm glad ME1/2 LI's are not in ME3" only to then when the hate falls upon you to point out the hypocrisy.

But my terrible humor aside. I can understand and support that all players get's satisfying conclusions to their romance in ME3, it's the last part afterall.

Really? Is this really the elitist attitude of ME1 Liara fans? I certainly hope not. :?

So you dislike me, along with a bunch of people who didn't particularly care for Liara in ME1 for one reason or another that ended up liking her in ME2, most notably from her LotSB dlc.

And if someone comes back to Liara because of the dlc, then shouldn't people be glad that they finally get to share with others now much they like her?

The writing improved. The voice acting improved. Even the presentation improved. They gave us what many of us wanted, what we deserved, all the fanservice we were left without when we had the two cold fishes talking to each other like it was another day at the office, between hacking missions. It felt like Liara and Shepard again.

Presentation and continuity matters to me, I was never one to excuse poor writing as "it's not the character's fault if she has a poor writer". The character is the character. If you assing a poor writer to a character, then the character suffers. I can't "wish away" Redemption or blather about "coffee cups".

For me, it was as if Liara finally woke up in LotSB. Or snapped out from a bout of madness. Changed, but now recognizably Liara. There was credible emotion in LotSB, when there was none in ME2. And there is still none in the vanilla ME2 content.

Besides, I can't say I "hated" hated her character. I just considered her a total loss. And I never stopped appreciating the ME1 era Liara, even though I might have said that in anger as well. That might sound contradictory with the above, but it's like having fond memories of someone who was a lovely person a few years ago, but went insane and unrecognizable in later days, and your friendship was destroyed because of that. You care for the person that the maniac used to be.

And yes, Shepard improved in LotSB as well. For one s/he was no longer a cold fish.

Does anyone know if Mac ever went on record of writing Liara's scene in ME2? Like is there a link to a credit or something? Or did people just assume he wrote the scene because he wrote the story for Redemption?

They don't sneer upon you, since you aren't a returning fan but potential new one.

It's us repentant apostates on the line of fire.

I don't begrudge them the emotion. I'd wager its catharctic.

I think it was stated that he took over Liara from Drew in the old forums... I'm burrowing through there, if I come upon it I'll post the relevant quote here. But there are thousands upon thousands of posts...

But it's unfair. Just sayin' Good to see you taking it in stride I guess.

I liked her in LotSB. At least *someone* wanted to be Shepard's friend :crying:

No, no. Not at all. I have no problem with people that started to appreciate her character following her development in ME2, and LotSB. I just dislike those that were Liara fans during ME1, ditched her during ME2 and prior to LotSB's release, before suddenly reppearing and rediscovering their love for her character following the DLC's release. They had no interest in enduring what occured during the retail version of ME2 concerning Liara's character, with no loyalty or attachment in the slightest.

They then return following LotSB's release, proclaiming that they've always been Liara fans and are in love with her character once again. That's what I have a problem with. Bandwagon jumpers. Fairweather fans. I actually like the fact that the DLC caused some people to appreciate her character. I dislike the fact that certain Liara "fans" have only returned following it's release.

Though I agree with people that only like Liara for now, and will forget about her later (and might replace her in ME3), I don't really like the "LOYALTY BADGE" fans way of treating Liara as just a reward that they deserve more.

I'm not going to name names, but most of the time, I run into something like this:

"SEE! SEE MY SIGNATURE! THAT'S MY LOYALTY BADGE! I DESERVE MORE! THOSE UNLOYAL OR NEW FAN ****S DON'T DESERVE ANYTHING! I SPENT 7 MONTHS BEING LOYAL! SEE THERE'S MY BADGE! IT MEANS I'M SPECIAL! (though I still did the Samara romance and the Kelly romance, but I'm just not going to tell anyone that... Besides, they don't count...)"

I mean, shouldn't they be more happy that Liara was actually given some good written scenes, and not the "THEY MUST PAY!" crap we got before, since that was the main problem?

I used the "it's the writers fault" excuse. Mostly because how OOC both Shepard and Liara acted in the scene, it made abseloutly no sense at all for why Shepard acted like he did during the scene.

Also, I discovered a magic potion that makes you forget about bad works of fiction (ME:Redemption , star wars prequel, the happening).

It's called bleach.

I'm definetly happy to see more people liking character. After all, if the Tali group is any indication, then a large fan group WILL definetly increase the odds of getting your character into the spotlight.

But that still doesn't prevent from rolling my eyes at times.

I've come across many people who now appreciate Liara's character after the DLC.  I have no problem with those people and think it's awesome that they've given Liara a chance.

It's the cheaters who disgust me.

Cheater:  Oh, you won't come on the Normandy with me, Liara?!  You're obsessed!  You should have let me die but since you didn't, I'm going to sleep with Miri/Tali/Jack.  I hope you come to your senses.

After LotSB...

Cheater:  Liara cares about me again and she's trying to help me with her new network!  And she'll let me have sex with her too!  I'm THE BIGGEST LIARA FAN EVAR!
