Well, some people can get, ah, territorial if you know what I mean.

I've meant to ask this question for a while now: What would you guys think of Liara's friendship with Feron being played up in Mass Effect 3 for players who did not go through the romance with her? (I'm not suggesting there be a romance between the two of them, just an added emphasis on their friendship if she isn't romantically involved with Shepard.) I would personally hate it if Liara were portrayed as forever waiting for Shepard to come around and finally romance her even if  the player never pursued that romance and has a different love interest besides. I think that would really hurt her character.

Why not show that they have a good friendship regardless of her status with Shepard?

But LOTSB does hint at Liara having some feelings for Feron if Shepard never romanced her.

On two separate playthroughs I got two different reactions. On one I thought it was obvious she liked Feron, but the other it seemed like she was listing reasons NOT to be involved.

Either way Shepard > Feron.

True enough. But most people should be able to handle Feron and Liara being friends without feeling threatned, LOTSB did clear the whole issue up for people who romanced Liara.

Yeah.  Booo@Feron.

Drells all dress the same.  No originality.

(Unless you're an insufferable fool and pay for a pair of sunglasses and dumb earrings for Thane...like I did :? )

I would not care much if that would happen, because I would not see it anyway, since in my own Mass Effect canon, Shepard and Liara belong together. Only one thing is important: Before the writers would spend time and resources writing any alternative friendship / romance paths between NPCs, they should make sure that the possible friendship / romance paths between the NPCs and Shepard are properly written, because those are certainly more important.

Agreed. Certainly, none-player-character interactions take a secondary importance to Shepard's interactions.

The last chapter was a short, transitionary chapter. The next several chapters, however, are longer, and include:
  • Plot development.
  • Liara development.
  • Further proof that crossing Liara is a poor, poor business, as my grandmother used to say.
  • A minor (and in my opinion underutilized) character being dragged into the conflict and taking a level in badass.

Hello all!

I'm new to this thread. I think this is the right place to post this, but I have a question for the "die hard" fans :)

I am in the midst of writing a FanFic about my "canon" FemShep Madeline, which is "told" from 4 different POVs: Liara, Kaidan, Miranda and Garrus.  Liara's section covers Shepard's funeral, but to finish it off, I want to show how she comes to the decision to search for Shepard's body.

Based on the Redemption Comics, Liara appearently goes on the search by her own accord. While escaping from Omega with Feron, they run into Miranda and two Cerberus operatives, who tells them they have the same goal (looking for Shepard) and want to work with Liara. Feron tells Liara about Cerberus's human-centric agenda and only care that Shepard is human, but Liara insists that as long as they share the common goal of saving Shepard, it should be all right.

Miranda brings Liara to the Illusive Man, who tells Liara that the Collectors want the corpse, and have hired the Shadow Broker to give it to them. The Illusive Man wants Liara to find out why the Collectors want Shepard's body, and to get it before they do. Liara wonders why he chose her, and the Illusive Man tells her that "nothing beats someone with a personal motive driving them". Liara does not trust Cerberus or the Illusive Man, but tells him that Shepard can count on her."

To me, this just seems to be a bit "lacking". I just don't feel enough "Incentive" or "drive" for Liara to do this on her own, plus the Miri encounter seems to leave a bit to be desired.

What I'm looking for is some insight into Liara's character and her "drive" or reasoning to:

- just go looking for Shepard's body on her own: Why? What is her goal by doing this?

- Give Shepard's body to Cerberus:  Why?  Why does she choose to do this?

The reason she goes out to find Shepard's body at first is to give some closure. All the other crew members of the SR-1 are moving on with their lives. Kaidan with the alliance, Tali is going back to the fleet. And Garrus already left after Saren had been beaten (either training as a spectre or working for C-sec). Same with Wrex, leaving so he can lead the Krogan. Liara has nothing left, and wants to give her lover/friend the last amount of respect she deserves. She presumebly also had alot money/resources left from benezia.

She hands the body because she wants Shepard back, even if it means that Shepard will hate her for what she did. Ultimativly it's for love, friendship........ And maybe also because the galaxy's at stake!

Well to Liara, Shep was a good friend or a lover... so that could be reason enough to want to find his/her body for closure...

Plus, Liara bets all on the chance that Cerberus may bring him/her back from the dead.... and she's willing to risk it all to get Shepard back....

its a really dangerous gamble really

My humble thanks to both of you :)

Yeah, the great thing about writing is the unlimited budget for special effects and blowing stuff up. Hell, you can blow up the entire galaxy if you want and you don't have to pay ILM a thing.

Liara knows the truth about the reapers. She also knows that Shepard might be the only one able to defeat them, or at least that Shepard is very important.

I'm writing the next chapter in my FF right now, and it's a big coincidence that you're talking about blowing things up as I type!. But you'll have to read it when I'm done to find out what I'm talking about

#2 There was an interesting comment on here a while back to the effect that Liara is the youngest (emotionally speaking) person who knows Shepard and, not being accustomed to losing people she cares about, simply refuses to accept it. In real life, of course, people either end up accepting it or going crazy. In Liara's case, refusing to accept it happens to be the right response.

#1 Following from #2, the others (Wrex, Kaiden/Ashley, etc) would have gone on with their lives rather than accompany Liara on what they figure is a hopeless quest. In my fanfic, I have Garrus accompany her for a while, since ME2 shows that he has become even more lost without Shepard than he was already. At the same time, she can learn some things from him. Tali would have been another good candidate, given that she (a) has feelings for Shepard, (B) is young enough that she might also refuse to accept Shepard's death, and © can handle herself in most situations (except the ones where Shepard has to rescue her ;) )

She might also not want Cerberus following her too closely because she's ambivalent about what they're going to do with the body. She's overcome with grief and is simply looking for something, anything remotely constructive to just DO rather than sit and stare at the wall. Right now, that means finding Shepard's body. She might not even want to think much farther ahead than that.

Now that's it. (Opens TextPad to make some edits...)

Liara: So, when the hell does Feron show up?

Aria: Oh, Feron. I had him shot.

Liara: Who else feels like some lunch?

Aria: Some guy named Solus opened a new Burger Barn in the slums. I hear it's pretty good.

Garrus: Let's make it happen.

New chapter of Persistence of Memory is up.

Summary: Liara has information critical to restoring Shepard. Miranda will do anything to get it. She'll even teach Liara how not to get killed. Facing her own past-and her attraction to Liara-was never part of the bargain.

...looks longingly into night sky waiting for ME3, thankgod I brought LOTSB:innocent:

^-^, is it sad to have recorded any Liara cutscenes from ME1/2 on fraps and then to convert them into mp3s just so I can listen to her:?

particulary the scene where she says "and if you don't pay, I'll flay you alive. With my mind"

Old news, but there's also some pre-LOTSB hidden dialogue (some of which was recycled) :

Now listen to this one:

and you can mentally put together the following dialogue:

Liara: Hello again...Shadow Broker.

FemShep: You know this a--hole, Liara?

Edit: after more looking around YouTube, I've found the BEST  MOD  EVER.

5 minutes in - Shepard going Mortal Kombat on the SB while wearing a party dress = pure art. This just takes her badassness to a whole new dimension. Hardsuits? Those are for pansies
