The last thing Shepard would say to her might be something sufficiently ambiguous to not attract attention which, with the benefit of hindsight, is clearly a goodbye and an apology for not being able to properly say goodbye.

Edit: after more looking around YouTube, I've found the BEST MOD EVER.
And another. This one might convince me to play the entire game over
5 minutes in - Shepard going Mortal Kombat on the SB while wearing a party dress = pure art. This just takes her badassness to a whole new dimension. Hardsuits? Those are for pansies
awesome mod
can the Asheley Williams mod its based off work for ME2 or just ME1?

well in the Shadow Broker DLC Liara and Shepard do talk about this when you invite her round for drinks...and a bit more

Are you thinking about something happening during ME3 or post-ME3?
But no matter what. Shepard should say something that in retroperspective is a goodbye, then posibly leave a message behind on a terminal. The content of that message however....
"Sorry for breaking my promise" perhaps? Not sure how Shepard would say goodbye.

Depends if he/she had to say goodbye in person or not;
In person he/she'd probably kiss her and try their hardest not to reveal their true thought's
Not in person he/she would probably say something also completely secretive and leave a message with their true thought's with Joker or someone to deliver to her.
Thats IMO anywayz...

We saw what happened last time Liara didn't get to say goodbye... she'd probably ruin herself if it happened a second time.

That is, by the given conditions in the original question, impossible.I'd hope that Shepard had the kahoneys to tell her straight up regardless
If Shepard had to go on a mission where he or she knew they were going to die, *and couldn't tell Liara that*, what would the last thing he or she would say to her be?
Edit to add: Re picture: Why is she standing in front of a wall of tv screens showing static? Somehow that image reminds me of a Dr Who episode.

Ah. Sounded like he just didn't want to hurt her feelings, as in *couldn't get it together to tell her*

Harbinger: WE ARE HERE.
Shepard (pausing in the middle of - well, never mind) Oh s---!
TIM (popping out of Shepard's omni-tool) I hope you're happy, Shepard. I spent four billion credits bringing you back, and instead of getting ready for the Reapers, you've wasted all your time on biotic banging.
Liara: This from the guy who's already gotten it on with Matriarch Trellani twice today. (She clicks the remote control and the vid appears on every viewer on the Normandy.)
Miranda: Oh God, my eyes. Did NOT need to see that.
TIM: That's different.
Harbinger: YOU CANNOT EVEN GRASP THE NATURE OF OUR...OF...UM...
Liara (smirking) Uh huh.
Harbinger: YOU WILL INSTRUCT US ON HOW TO PERFORM THIS..."BIOTIC BANGING". IN RETURN WE WILL CONSIDER SPARING YOUR PUNY CIVILIZATION.
Shepard (leaning back into the pillow and lighting up a cigarette) Biotic banging. You can even save the universe with it.

Harbringer: (with some other Reaper) This... ****, we need to make up for all these millenia!
(Reapers are now all instinct thanks to... Scale Itch)
Shepard: (sighs) Is there anthing biotic banging can't do?
Liara: (in a dominatrix outfit) Shepard, I got the shackles, the whip, and the chains!
(in the Engineering Deck)
Wrex: (to Jack) I wish to know what this biotic banging feels like.

And my FemShep banged Liara.

As for Liara as a squadmate, I am torn. My Shepard would rather keep her safe and worries that the continued battles might harden Liara even more. Liara has already seen to much, but my Shepard would miss her terribly though. Hmmmm... what to do? Make sure Liara lives to see 120.
Edit: Also female, happily married, and one of my female Shepards romaned Liara. :innocent:

aww 20 years old how cute.......and how pathetic you´re a woman and you like these comments to a female being, and even used derogatory terms for something so wonderful,as to have sex with a lover .
you have much to learn,at least until you grow up!

Anyway all I wanted to say is that given Lair of the Shadow Broker, she'll be in Mass Effect 3. In fact anyone who can be a love interest will more than likely be in Mass Effect 3.
Seeing as how I romanced her however, I do fully support Liara for Mass Effect 3. Also some of you people creep me out. Thank god this isn't the Tali thread though, if they even resurrected that monster.

Don't get your knickers in a twist. I don't approve of some of the fanboy obsession over Liara, or any character for that matter. However, what is pathetic is that you're offended by a touch of semi-vulgar slang, and that you find it necessary to crusade against something as trivial as a bunch of nerds getting their jollies from some fictitious blue chick. You are blowing things way out of proportion, man.Caythark wrote...

"Something so wonderful, as to have sex with a lover." Um, what? Sexual intimacy is an important part of a mature relationship, sure, but IMHO it's hardly the best part. I'm not about to put shagging up on some golden pedastal, even though pop cultural treatment of the subject borders on absurd, because that's not the part that matters. Wanting to devote a large portion of my life to being with someone has little to do with whose thingie goes in the other person's thingie. Call me a romatic pragmatist, but if sex is the best part of your relationship, your love probably won't last.
Not that sex is a bad thing.
Anyway, I make some pretty outrageous commets about male characters as well. Garrus, for example, is one handsome devil, for a dinosaur with half his face missing anyway, and I'd totally hit that. I'd also like to add that, as a bisexual myself, I think Liara is a huge step forward when it comes to gays in videogames, even though she was a lousy piece of fanservice in the first game. Bioware has my respect for including both her and Zevran in their games, as that sort of thing is incredibly risky in today's culture. Also, the fact that they make no compromises to "feminize" FemShep or the female Gray Warden deserves another tip of the hat; those women are just as strong and charismatic as their male counterparts, even though they aren't the "default." So there was female objectification in their games, so what? Did you completely miss the part where Jacob took off his shirt? Notice Thane's man-cleavage? It's tacky, sure, but they at least do it to both sexes.
I boned Liara as a FemShep because I fully support gay relationships in videogames that are deeper than just nudie scenes. Liara has evolved into one helluva strong woman, especially since the release of Lair of the Shadow Broker, and the interaction between her and Shepard shows a very deep and loving relationship. It's damn good writing, and it's a step towards full acceptance of ******/bisexuality in mainstream media. It may be a small and shaky step, but it's a step nonetheless.
And don't call me cute.
