Lawyer: Commander Shepard, you are charged with false advertising.
Shepard: What do you mean?
(plays back several different voice-overs of "I'm Commander Shepard and this is my favorite store on the Citadel)
Shepard: Oh... Well, um, I needed the discounts?

Don't get your knickers in a twist. I don't approve of some of the fanboy obsession over Liara, or any character for that matter. However, what is pathetic is that you're offended by a touch of semi-vulgar slang, and that you find it necessary to crusade against something as trivial as a bunch of nerds getting their jollies from some fictitious blue chick. You are blowing things way out of proportion, man.Caythark wrote...
aww 20 years old how cute.......and how pathetic you´re a woman and you like these comments to a female being, and even used derogatory terms for something so wonderful,as to have sex with a lover .
you have much to learn,at least until you grow up!
"Something so wonderful, as to have sex with a lover." Um, what? Sexual intimacy is an important part of a mature relationship, sure, but IMHO it's hardly the best part. I'm not about to put shagging up on some golden pedastal, even though pop cultural treatment of the subject borders on absurd, because that's not the part that matters. Wanting to devote a large portion of my life to being with someone has little to do with whose thingie goes in the other person's thingie. Call me a romatic pragmatist, but if sex is the best part of your relationship, your love probably won't last.
Not that sex is a bad thing.
Anyway, I make some pretty outrageous commets about male characters as well. Garrus, for example, is one handsome devil, for a dinosaur with half his face missing anyway, and I'd totally hit that. I'd also like to add that, as a bisexual myself, I think Liara is a huge step forward when it comes to gays in videogames, even though she was a lousy piece of fanservice in the first game. Bioware has my respect for including both her and Zevran in their games, as that sort of thing is incredibly risky in today's culture. Also, the fact that they make no compromises to "feminize" FemShep or the female Gray Warden deserves another tip of the hat; those women are just as strong and charismatic as their male counterparts, even though they aren't the "default." So there was female objectification in their games, so what? Did you completely miss the part where Jacob took off his shirt? Notice Thane's man-cleavage? It's tacky, sure, but they at least do it to both sexes.
I boned Liara as a FemShep because I fully support gay relationships in videogames that are deeper than just nudie scenes. Liara has evolved into one helluva strong woman, especially since the release of Lair of the Shadow Broker, and the interaction between her and Shepard shows a very deep and loving relationship. It's damn good writing, and it's a step towards full acceptance of ******/bisexuality in mainstream media. It may be a small and shaky step, but it's a step nonetheless.
And don't call me cute.
And I have to agree with your attitude towards sexuality and relationships. Though, I never really appreciated how big a step Bioware took with fem!Shepard/Liara, Zevran, and the female Wardens. Anot reason to play fem!Shepard other than Jennifer Hale's superb voice-acting.

I'm under impression that she wasn't offended by the slang per se, but rather by trivialization of the relationship implied by usage of said slang. Fictitious as it may be, it is still pictured as having more depth than just being "biotic banging". But I guess being respectful of the concept of relationship (and aspects thereof) is too much to ask from "a bunch of nerds" (and I guess getting people to not behave like "a bunch of nerds" is an equally preposterous wish).

Poor choice of words on my part, and I apologize. If you'll read the rest of the post, though, I explained why I found Liara's romance subplot deeper than a simple sexual tryst.
Sorry for being a douche, but I hate it when people use feminism as an excuse for trolling. As a feminist mself, I find that sort of behavior embarrassing. I'll shut up about it, though, since getting banned is no fun.

run your biotics joke if you want, but please don't feed the troll.
It's impossible to troll a thread that's already full of nothing but trollish behavior.
I suppose, but I've seen far worse on other forums it's still fairly light here. Would rather it stayed that way.

It's ironic, really, that you find her post to be trolling.AdmiralCheez wrote...

Words have these properties called connotations. "Sex with a lover", "banging", or even "f***ing" all refer to fundamentally the same physiological act, but they are not completely interchangeable; the first refers to an intimate experience, the second is more akin to "no strings attached" "one night stand", the last has to deal with assertion of dominance more than anything.
What Cay was saying is, using the word "banging" to describe it kinda implies lack of depth in a relationship, or even lack of a relationship itself. Which is derogatory when referring to a relationship that actually does have depth. Where you get off assuming that sex is the most important aspect of a relationship for her I'll probably never know.

I would have preferred the thread to stay the way it was months ago...when people actually, you know, discussed Liara's character. Now it's full of.....this. Trolling, spamming, and juvenile jokes.

For Liara fans who wish to restart another thread dedicated to her, you now have the following requirements to consider:
All opinions in regards to Liara are to be respected provided the poster is maintaining a civil tone. Such opinions you must learn to accept that your fellow forumites have are whether or not they romanced her as a male or female Shepard or whether they appreciated her character development into ME2/LotSB or not. Some believe one thing, some believe the other, and you are to respect such beliefs while on these forums.
Anyone demonstrating an inability to be civil and respectful should be reported to a moderator. You should not seek to argue with them because you will not be shaming them into civil behavior nor are you likely to change their mind. These forums are not a pissing contest and you are helping no one by encouraging such behavior with your responses.
If you have such strong opinions about Liara that you will not respect the opinions of another, you are more than welcome to address such concerns in another forum. There are BSN groups that you can join or create that allow you to speak much more openly than in this public venue.
I ask that people reread the welcome post I wrote when the Tali threads were problematic. *Click Here*
Finally, should multiple Liara threads crop up to replace this one, it is my prerogative to decide which one gets to remain open.
Any complaints about this action I am taking should be addressed via PM to either myself or Chris Priestly.
