I  found a fan-art picture of a pregnant Liara, and it made me wonder if we're told in any sources how long the Asari gestation period is.

Anyone?

I have no clue how long the Asari are pregnant for, I am guessing it is similar to a human.
I do indeed hope we get to have little ShepAsari at the end of ME3, that would be nice.

:DDDDDD!!!!! If it's possible to smile so much that it's loud, then I'm doing it right now! That would be a fantastic ending! A cute little blue Shep for the blue goddess and her cyborg zombie bondmate to raise together! :DDDD <3

Hmm... I think some people might have built Liara up to be a goddess
on a pedestal. If she were perfect, I wouldn't like her. (Ghads, I'm sorry for the negativity, but all the sugar canes and flowers in this thread has been making me ill today..)

I never thought hardening Leliana spoiled her. I mean, really. Do we want her with her feet bound and dressed up in silk and cotton in a gilded cage, or do we want a real woman who can get what she wants on her own merits?

Like Leliana, I think if there was an option to let Liara stay the way she is in ME2, I'd probably take it. I like the idea that a character can grow and change and make mistakes. I like how events can toughen you up. Liara has had to do a LOT of growing up from the moment she met Shepard, I think I'd find her less believable if she didn't harden up somewhat. (And this is coming from a dedicated Paragon player - I like my characters kind and compassionate as well!)

I'll love Liara no matter how she changes, just as long as we don't get another one of Bioware's patented "SURPRISE!! Female Love Interest Betrays You!"tm storylines.

(AND OMG!!!! Having a baby is not the be all and end all of a romantic relationship, guys!!!!)

I fight a constant war with myself about whether or not thinking about Liara and Shepard having a child is a step in to the truly creepy territory of fandom.

On one hand, it's fun and sweet to think about how they would raise their child, what she would look like, and the kind of person she would turn out to be.  Also, think about all of the mentors she would have in Shepard's friends.

On the other hand, this might just all be a creepy level of wish-fulfillment.

While this is a Liara thread I'll say leliana was already hardened. She was an assasin bard...she went to  the chantry to leave that life or try to (and for other reasons). I'd assume being more hard is not her life goal.

And while difficult things hitting you in life makes  a tougher skin they don't necessarily make you better as a person, or more satisfying as a persona. Becoming something you didn't set out to be is sad. if you lose sight of what you wanted in life or the personality you try to maintain, well, I think that might be real, but it isn't more interesting. IMO. It's the reason I don't watch much reality TV.....I want my fiction to be about something higher than the average or the norm. I want my heroes to be better than me. i may not place them on a pedestal, but I'd rather them be above me so I have something to stride towards.
I'm not a child or anything, but hoping and dreaming of being better seems a more likeable choice than sucumbing to the pitfalls like "real" people.
That's my 2 cents....or credits.

Well, I am gonna sign off for the night.
I don't know, I think it would be sweet to be able to have little Asari children at the end of ME3 (my FemShep could actually have children to call her own). <3
I am sure the ending will be loving and sweet (and involve Liara and Shep) no matter what how BioWare decides to end it.

I can't wait for the Liara Expansion that will make ME2 completely better and give us the deep, emotional, romantic story we want with Liara.
I love you my Lovely Liara.:wub:<3<3:wub::wub:

@yorkj86

There is a small amount of that in my thought about the whole issue. Having said that, there's nothing really wrong with a pair of fictional characters having a child. It's just that having a child is not everyone's idea of "happily ever after" - it's not a part of my idea, I've never wanted to have children. In fact, I have quite often been looked at funny and patronized when I expressed that feeling. When I was about 13 or so, I think, my grandmother said to me something along the line of: "There there, dear, you'll want a baby when you're older"... *rolls eyes* I'm now 38, and I still don't want a child.

Not every woman on the planet has maternal instincts, and not every woman on the planet with maternal instincts wants a child.

@mrbeavis19

It would only be nice if it were optional.

Leliana is a rather interesting person. On the one hand, she ran away to the Chantry to escape her former life. On the other, she really enjoyed her life - she only ran because she got betrayed. If Majorlaine hadn't betrayed her, Leliana would still be in Orlais, happily acting as a spy and assassin, probably without any second thoughts or doubts.

There is nothing wrong with Leliana's skill set. She just needed to be a little more picky in how she used it. She has the ability to do a lot of good, if only she'd trust herself to do it. Telling her that she's been evil in the past and that she should not use those abilities any more is effectively telling her that she's no good, and she's bad for enjoying something she's good at. It's soul crushing, in my opinion.

Bringing this back to Liara, a lot of people in this thread (and fan club) seem to want her to revert entirely back to the way she was in ME1. But people just don't go through life untouched. Sure, I'd like to see a little bit more of goofy geeky Liara, but I would prefer her to be touched by her life, and not some pristine goddess on a pedestal.

There is nothing wrong with wanting a happy ending, the gods know I prefer them myself, but Liara doesn't have to go back to being the sheltered archaeologist to have a happy ending. In fact, I think she'd be a stronger character if she was able to come out of her shell, don't you?

I do think that would be a nice ending to the Liara romance if you kept her throughout the trilogy, and remained faithful to her in ME2. Shep and Liara becoming bondmates and having children together would be really sweet, and I'd like it.

I don't think it's that alot of us want Liara to revert entirely back to how she was in ME1, it's just that we want her to be happy again, and allow her to be her kind, compassionate self and not the person that she obviously hates being in ME2. We just want Liara to be free of her emotional torment, and be happy again.

@Zandilar (yeah, I'm getting quote-lazy in my old internet age ):

Truth be told, you have not only a valid point (which being an opinion question, it's a given that it's valid, right?) but one I can see the merits in.  At least with Leliana, though I prefer her supporting my nearly-perfectly paragon-ish moves throughout the game, and I kind of like her hopeless-romantic, kind-of-giggly persona as it is.  (I mean, it's not like she's wearing elaborate shoes and hairstyles while she's on the battlefield, or anything.)

With Liara, though, it's a case of personalities, and I think a lot of people on this thread fell hard for the bookish nerd with a hidden tough side we met in ME1.  I'll admit... though it's kind of hard to do ... that maybe some ... okay, potentially many, though I will dispute anyone claiming it's a majority of the players ... don't like that side of her.  Though even my Talimancer friend likes Liara in general, he just thinks she's not a good fit for Shepard.  (I respectfully disagree, but again, opinion question, nobody's wrong.)  I think, though, that the haters and dislikers might well like the new side of Liara better than the original nerdy hottie we Liaramancers love.  If so, and they can finesse dialogue for each 'version' of Liara -- probably with some neutral overlap if at all possible -- then they should go for it.  We're probably not going to take that option, but go right ahead if you personally feel like it.

After all, the only thing about Liara that's flat-out canon from ME2 is that she's crazy about Shepard in one way or another.  The rest is either not quite filled in, or open to interpretation.  Which is just how I like it.

Hmm, 2 years should definitely be enough time for gestation.  Maybe Shep has a little mini-Shep running around that Liara hasn't told him/her about eh?  :P  I mean, that would probably be distracting from a suicide mission.

Would be quite awkward for Sheps who romanced Ashley or Kaidan. ;-)

I agree with alot of what Jayla said, and I do think that Paragon/Renegade conversational choices during dialogue with Liara in ME3 will influence her. Renegades will tell her to keep this new tough side to her personality, whereas Paragons will encourage her to re-embrace her true caring and compassionate personality. Added to the depth of the love Liara has for Shep, and there's a lot of potential for Liara's character.

I like that idea, we need to have a paragon interrupt to hug Liara too like on Tali's loyality mission, i just need to hug herPosted Image

Anyway I'm just stopping here before I head out to school, time to day dream about the blue goddess all day nowPosted Image

Indeed, Luke. What I wouldn't give for the ability to hug Liara there, the poor girl is about to burst into tears.

Have fun thinking about the Beautiful Blue Goddess, I know I certainly will!

That's certainly a possibility. I <3 that one actually. Since we were able to influence characters in BioWare-Games like Dragon Age and even ME this has a high propability to be implemented in ME3. Granted what we said to Garrus, for example, wasn't carried over but ME3 is intended to be the last one that wouldn't be a problem.
But maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part....

//edit: I also support the hug-interrupt by the way

Not only do I support the hug interrupt, but I also support Liara coming up to Shep's cabin at the end of her DLC and the pair of them having a tender, heartfelt and emotional conversation in which they both open their hearts to each other, admitting their mistakes to each other and vowing never to let each other go again. Followed by Shep and Liara embracing each other warmly, with a single tear trickling down Liara's cheek before the camera pans out and fades to black.

Asari are placental vivaparous like humans and mammalian (using earth terms since we don't have any xenotaxonomy), and with their similiar physiology overall the gestation period would probably be around the same, although I'd lean to a bit over a month longer myself.  I think it'd be a bit longer because of the increased neural complexity of asari; their ability to consciously control their own physiology, and attune their nervous system to another to share sensation, information, or induce variance in their gametes.  But they also have enhanced cellular regeneration so really you could argue either way since there isn't an established time.

My problem with the Liara lovechild scenario is that for it to be true several conditions have to be met.
1) Liara made the choice to become pregnant.  Asari don't become pregnant accidentally.
2) Liara did that without telling Shepard, which is totally dishonest and probably an asari taboo.
3) Liara did that while serving on the Normandy as a frontline special forces soldier fighting geth.

Liara would have to be dishonest enough to do something like that, and then be stupid and irresponsible enough to do it while she was running around getting shot at and beating on geth.  She's in the close confines of a ship, works right beside the ship's doctor, has to fit into her armor, and snuggles up with Shepard constantly.
I personally don't believe that Liara would meet the low character and intelligence requirements necessary.

Yes, Liara would never deceive Shep in that way and secretly conceive their child, before flat out lying about it and keeping it hidden from him/her. That just isn't Liara, and there's no way she'd be as callous and heartless as to do something like that.

If Liara do have daughter whit Shepard then could be very logical to hidden her before Liara will be 100% sure that will be absolute safe to reveal her egsistence.

Last thing what Liara wants was distracted Shepard before C-Base mission and of course she knowns that thier child could become Timmy's hostage and used to subdue Shepard to his will.
But after returning from Omega 4 relay and shoved off Timmy there will be no safest place for Lili:wub: and her child  as Normandy:happy:.

Of course so far this is just speculations but who known...;)

Honestly, I'd prefer not to have a child. I think there's just too much for Shepard to do, and Liara would probably want to come along for all that (when she's not busy obsessing over the Shadow Broker :P), and having a child would mean trying to keep it out of danger, which would just add a whole new level of stress and concern. MAYBE, some years from now, when the galaxy isn't in danger of being destroyed by Reapers, then they could have a child. Assuming Shepard (and Liara) lives that long.

I agree that the whole Shepard and Liara having a child in the games timeframe would be quite unrealistic but would make for a good epilogue, assuming Bioware doesnt do the whole heroic death, sacrifice yourself to kill off the reapers, routine with Shepard.

I also agree with what was posted above if Liara should come back as squadmate, which I hope but I still have some lingering doubts with that,we should be able to push her character in one direction or another.
