I have to say, if you want to look at BioWare and EA as being as greedy as JP. Morgan, then the Expansion makes even more sense.
If BioWare spent 2.5m dollars on a 90min Liara DLC and sold it at $10 a piece to 1m people (half of the people who bought ME2 in the first week, realistic numbers), their gross income from the DLC would be 7.5m dollars.
If they spent 10m dollars on a 15 hour full Expansion and sold it to 1m people (at this point, more people would buy it because of it being a full expansion) for $20, their gross profit would be 10m dollars.

So they would make 2.5m dollars more off of a 15 hour Expansion then the 90min DLC.

I read somewhere that ME2 cost 25m - 30m dollars to make, so a 15 hour expansion for 10m dollars wouldn't be unreasonable.

It would be cheaper than that because they wouldn't have to develop any mechanical systems or anything.  It would just be dialogue and level design using mostly existing properties.

Huh, it would make even more sense financially for BioWare to do a 15 hour Expansion.
Lets hope they want to make money.

Of course I really have no idea how much those things (plus marketing, production, distribution, etc) costs.  I'm just saying that the basic framework is there and they don't have to change anything.

after all the games I've saw and played that different game devs screwed up on... Come on ME don't screw this up to. I mean they have started an Epic game, not good, not even great. EPIC!

I don't really see where people are getting the "Liara is heading to the dark side" feeling from. To me, it seems like Liara is still at heart very much herself, but she's suffered so much guilt and emotional torment, and because of that finds herself in such a terrible predicament, that she's struggling to deal with and come to terms with it emotionally. It's the classic "place an inherently good person in an inherently bad position" situation, and I think that's what it is with Liara.

She's not going to go out and start beating up random folk and killing kittens, she's still Liara at heart. It's just she's being forced to do these things because she's unable to deal with her feelings, things that she evidently hates doing.

That's adorable.   Thanks for that.

I think it would be cool (and cute) if the Asari head-tentacles start out small in infancy, and then fill out as the Asari gets older.

Hey all, just adding my support. Been a long time lurker, read this whole thread. Figured I'd setup my forum account and post.

Been nice to read everyone's thoughts and to see all the screenshots and fan art. Nice to know I'm not alone in being upset with how everything was handled, but I've gotten over it. I share alot of the same thoughts about why Liara is like she is now, with the rest of you.

The major problem is though, not with Liara, but with Shep sitting there like a moron...not giving Liara the comfort she clearly needs. Is there some hidden reason for that, we just don't know about yet...maybe...but that's putting more faith in BW then they have earned at this point...it just feels forced. My Shep would have said, screw the rest of the galaxy, I'm helping Liara first.

I at first had thought, hoped maybe, that Liara was hiding her and Shep's daughter from the SB, and that's why she is acting like she is. Perhaps she gave Shep a sign in their meeting not to say anything, that whisper maybe...who knows... Or that the SB knows where their daughter is, and she has been working hard to protect her.

But I buy the idea that she is working for TIM and the deal was that she can't get back with Shep, she took the deal rather then leave Shep dead...if you love someone you let them go...kind of thing.  Also, think about it...when you start off, you can play the logs on the station, and you hear about the one guy that doesn't know where TIM gets all his money to pay for the project...I think I know...he is getting it from Liara...she's been working her cute little blue ass off for you...making the funds to pay to being you back to life. That might also have been part of the deal. It fits with her lines too.

So Liara gets your body back, and turns you over to TIM...the deal is, he will bring Shep back to life, but the cost is that Liara can't distract Shep from the mission, and she has to work to help pay for the project. She takes it because she can't let you go, and in her own way she wants to still help Shep, so she goes after the SB to make him pay for stealing your body and for working with the Collecters. Since she knows that Shep will being going after them.

Perhaps it's a bit of both...maybe TIM is oddly helping protect Shep and Liara's daughter...but I don't know if he'd do that...it seems out of character. I like the idea that Liara and Shep have a daughter. Liara talks about mating in ME1 before you meld. Shep knows that melding is how they have daughters...so Shep knew going in.

I just hope we get a really good DLC or Xpac to tie up the losse ends and fix this story. It's too sad how it is now.

Love Liara - haven't had a playthru with any other romance, how could you pick someone else over the GoddessImage IPB

Tali maybe, she's really sweet and cute, and a bit geeky, like Liara, but...I wouldn't risk her life just to take her to bed. Besides, I can't bring myself to play maleshep, femshep VO is so much better

This is getting long so I'll stop hehe. Image IPB

I do feel like that in the end it will be all worthwhile for sticking with Liara throughout the trilogy, as she's the only squadmate guaranteed to be alive for the third game and therefore realistically is the returning squadmate that BW will invest the most amount of time and resources in developing for ME3, meaning that we get Liara involved deep within the plot and an emotional and epic conclusion to the romance.

i think what you are saying is true:)
and do you think we get to see Liara's house? 'd love to see it:wizard:

If Liara had a child with Shepard without telling him...that's awfully shady behavior, and makes everything she did to bring him back make her seem like a psycho hose-beast, when viewed in that perspective.  That's a bit much for me to stomach, even as a Liara-fan.

Of course they do. Problem is, neither you nor I know the numbers, it's all guess work. BioWare/EA will have at least some numbers, and they obviously figure that short-simple-cheap is the most commercially viable way to go for DLC. I like how they try to spin it otherwise and pretend it's all high quality content, but of course everyone sees through that (I hope). It may be different with a real expansion, it will be very interesting to see DA:O:A now, to see what their approach to expansions is now, if it's different from the approach to DLC.

Honestly I think it's because she doesn't have a penis.  It seems like if a person decides to do something and it involves taking action and they're a woman then obviously they're going to lose their way and need to be saved.  I about vomit each time I hear someone say that she needs to pulled back, saved, redeemed, whatever.  And referencing KOTOR and NWN just makes it worse, I am so very tired of the girl needing to be saved.
I've said it before, but Garrus went on a psychopathic vigilante killing spree and no one wrings their hands over that.  Wrex is clan leader of Urdnot, he didn't get that job with an aggressive leaflet campaign and kissing babies.  You don't see anyone moaning about the dark path he's following or the throne of skulls he sits on.  Tali was too busy with her own stuff to join you on Freedom's Progress.  Oh no, Tali has become obsessed!  No, she just had something very important to do.
Liara is doing something constructive with her time, something that ties into Shepard directly, the Collectors, and quite possibly the Reapers.  That's more than anyone else was doing in those two years.  Although, admittedly we don't know exactly what Ashley/Kaiden were doing for Anderson.

Usually promotional costs are only a fraction of what the actual Expansion would cost to make, I believe they are paid for by the publisher as well.
Expansions for consoles (and PCs) seem to be mostly online these days, so I can imagine the distribution costs would be lower.

Know we just need to see what BioWare will do.
Don't get me wrong, I would be extremely happy with a 2-5 hour Liara DLC where we get to help her with her negative emotions and have emotional and romantic conversations with her, but I just see no reason for BioWare not to do a 15 hour Expansion when it would even be financially benifical to them.

but what Bio Ware doesn't have is a sense of timetable of any kind
no acknowledgment [official] of Liara DLC and yet we know it will come!
and the 'late March' Hammerhead...it's late March already!
hello BW!!! look in the calendar from time to time.....   no more comment....

putting this aside: as for possible Liara and Shep offspring: what colour you bet it will be [cos Asari children differ in blue-depth it's father connected i think....

Nail. On. Freaking. Head.

Honestly, of all the ME1 squadmates, people say that Liara's the one that's lost it? Garrus has become a total loony in ME2, and I thoroughly disliked him in ME2 whereas I didn't mind him in ME1.

Liara even says herself that one of the reasons she's after the SB is for "whatever he's doing with the Collectors". That's not interpretation, that's stone cold fact as she flat out states it. Honestly, Liara is worthy of sympathy in ME2, not this disdain that she gets from some quarters.

We may not know the exact numbers, but it doesn't mean we are not far off. Video games generally don't have that big of profit margins in the first place.
Short and cheap is invariably not  the best way to go, a lot of times you can get better sales with substantial content, people will even trust you in the future so there is always a chance to make even more money later.

It really depends on what their financial people's personalities are like.
If they are hedge fund type jackasses then they may try to go the idiotic way.
If they actually know what they are talking about, they will go the better way (full Expansion) where they will most likely make more money.

I completely agree, honestly, Liara is the only one who has actually done anything.
Everyone else said, "Well, Shepard's dead, WTF do we do now?".
They may have had other important things to do, but they were not vital to the story.
Liara never gave up and she is the reason the galaxy is going to be saved.
At this point, Liara is ME, she is the reason everything is happening. Another reason it is impossible to forget about her.

I agree, Garrus was freaking weird in ME2, what happened to the Paragon teachings of ME1? They completely disappeared.
Garrus was more of a student in ME1, but now he went of the deep end.

Little Mama, I've just noticed you've put your new artwork up on deviantAart. I noticed there were two new pieces listed and I was about to pot links on here, but then realised that they were yours. ;-)

I like them! Liara is beautiful.
