In a second slap to the face, not even the lovely Leliana returned for the expansion.  Both my ME and DA characters sleep alone...

I heard that Leliana's voice-actress wanted full-price for work on Awakenings, so Bioware told her to take a hike.

Leli & Lili = Bioware no-no.

Well she is mentioned in the epilogue if you romanced her for what its worth.
But at least the DA Team had the courtesy to state it right away that the romance werent in the game instead of flying evasive maneuvers for months and ocasional teasing.

That's just a rumor.  Zevran and Morrigan were not mentioned either and even Alistair barely acknowledges a romance.  They did cut two letters from Zev and Leliana that were pretty cute though and confirmed the romance was still on.  As someone said, at least DA acknowledged that they still exist and "have feelings" for your character.

But if that was the case.... why not just come out and say it?  I would've been a lot more forgiving of Liara's ME2 content if the devs had explained their reasoning behind it.  Something specific like "here's what we were trying to accomplish in this scene...."  I know she is their character, and can do whatever they want with her.  But we have a lot of emotional (not to mention monetary) investment in Liara.  Showing us a little compassion would go a long way, I think.

All we got was Casey's "rocky" statement.  Rocky?  The relationship isn't rocky.  It's completely MISSING!

I completely agree with that.

But, I think the whole situation probably fits with the saying, "hindsight is 20/20", it probably seemed like a great idea at the time (or as good as it could get with the comic not fully released) the way they had the scene play out, but until the execution of the scene, you just don't know.
Kind of like when you get  a math question wrong, you may think you got it completely right when you are doing it, but then when you double check it later you say, "WTF, how did I even think that was close to the answer".
I don't really think it was laziness, they were just mistaken in how good they thought the scene was.

Agreed, the exisiting Liara reunion and romance content in ME2 is very poor and does feel very thrown together to say the least. I do feel that so much of it was cut out to avoid spoilers for Redemption that BW was left with little manueverability with regards to actual content in Liara's reunion scene. They can't have Liara say anything else or Shepard be more inquisitive as they don't want to spoil the comic. It's annoying and unfortunate, I know, but I think it will be all worth it in the end after Redemption is finished and BW is free to include all of Liara's intended ME2 content and her role.

I guess I wish they had given the game priority when it comes to revealing content.  Afterall, the game is the cash cow.  Even if they sell every printing run of the comic the money generated, and the fan interest, is just a drop in the bucket compared to the game.

The comic developers should have been worried about spoiling the game, not the other way around.  That, or they should have timed the comic to release leading up to the game's release, not the other way around.

I guess you can call Shepards "attempts" to argue with her "rocky" although thats quite a stretch, since it never leads to anything just Liara barking back a little and then instantly reverting to buisiness mode or not really reacting to it at all

I really have to think its Cerberus influencing Liara.  She seems afraid someone is listening, but why would the Shadow Broker care at all if she shows hints of feeling for Shepard?  I am sure, unless he is an idiot, he is well aware that Liara and Shepard had a relationship in the past and if anything he might encourage it to use Liara as leverage with Shepard later.

Cerberus on the other hand has good reason to keep Liara "chaste" and quiet.  She may have some unseemly secrets about the organization that could poison Shepard's loyalty and the Illusive Man seems to care about you having relationships from your past in that he thinks they are distracting.  Funnily enough he doesn't care if you sleep around with Miranda/Tali/Jack or even hook up with his hand picked psychologist Kelly.

Check the Awakenings spoiler forum.  There are two cute letters cut out that are FAR better than what Ashley sent you in ME 2.

Because in business, you try not to come out and admit those types of mistakes. It can make you look extremely stupid.
If Casey had come out and said, "People will be extremely disappointed in the Liara's scene and wish it was better, but they just need to hold on for the comics to be released". It could bring a negative reaction from the public before the game is even released.
I agree, it would be nice to have all companies be completely truthful with us, but it is not the way it works.
Major trillion dollar financial institutions all the way down to small companies all do the exact same thing, I have honestly never seen a company come and tell people about their actual intentions unless they are completely screwed to the wall in a multi-billion dollar lawsuit (even at that they will deny everything half the time).

Usually companies will come out with cryptic and seemingly meaningless statement to achieve the goal of being semi-truthful.
Casey's "rocky" statement could have had several different meanings. Maybe he was trying to warn us what the scene would be like because of the comics, I have never talked to him so I wouldn't know.

We do indeed have a great emotional investment in Liara, we may have to accept the scene was not perfect and believe it will be fixed in the Liara DLC.
I wouldn't be suprised if they changed the first reunion in the Liara DLC and added at least a few more dialogue options.

You might be right, but then they shouldn't have been so subtle about it.  In the medium in which they are working being subtle is akin to being ambiguous or confusing.  Liara shakes her head and mentions something about people listening.  So?  Who cares?  What secrets are being revealed?  It doesn't make any sense.

They needed to flat out tell you why you couldn't talk.  If they didn't want to reveal Liara is working for Cerberus, then have her say:

Liara:  "There are things going on that you don't understand.  I'm...no, Its not safe."

Shepard:  "Liara, I can help you if you'll only let me.  But you need to tell me what's going on."

Liara:  "Please, Shepard.  I would tell you more if I could.  You must understand that.  But doing so would endanger both of our lives and...I couldn't live if I lost you again."

Would that have left us gasping for more?  Yes. And its not even that different than what they did.  But it would have been a hell of a way to acknowledge Liara's feelings without giving us anything substantial, while giving us enough to know there is something more. And if there was dlc to be had later, it would be one hell of a lead in.

To the above poster, I don't know if it was being subtle so much as being tasked to quickly rewrite an entire characters story and motivations. Perhaps, if that was the case, just the rush leaves so little time to pack so much in...

I sympathize with the writers as I imagine they are all very accomplished and, if they even read this forum, realize they left plotholes large enough to fly a tractor trailer through, but with deadlines and scripts changing, you do the best you can. At least, thats what I hope was the case...

My take on the picture. Taken during a vacation shortly after the events from ME 1. B)

Image IPB

By the way, does anyone else find it odd that in the 21st century they apparently not only "un-invented" any way of automatically feeding fish, but also their digital photo displays offer worse image quality than those we already have today? Not to mention email programs that lack a reply function. And the tablet laptops or whatever they call it are... well, basic, to be generous.

Well to be totally honest, my sympathies for the complexities of writing for a changing medium like a game in development is mitigated by my paying them money for the end result of their work.

Right.  Presumably they are getting paid to write good content, even in rushed situations.  That's what they do.  And any time they want to trade their job for mine and put all that pressure on me to produce solid written material in a changing medium under duress I will gladly trade.  I have pressures too and I still manage to do a good job.

I wish the modder had put a picture of Liara and Shep, like we were talking about yesterday.  But yeah, its a good pic and much better than what appeared in the actual game.

Yeah, I wish though that the game itself would have put a picture of your custom Shepard with Liara smiling or something, that would have been great.

I think it was Jacob, he seems to have it out for you from the beginning with FemShep flirting with him every five minutes (Goddamn it BioWare why did you do that!?!).

I like that picture of The BBG in there, it should have been there instead of the promo picture. <3

I think after the events of Warhammer 40k, Humanity lost all knowledge of fish feeding, how to reply to emails, and how to create a good image.

My issue 3 of Redemption arrived today, just about to read it now, I need my fix of the BBGImage IPB

Also I agree a picture of Liara and Shep in your cabin would have been so nice, I like to think in my mind that Liara has such a picture on her desk in her office on IlliumImage IPB
