I don't really think it was laziness, they were just mistaken in how good they thought the scene was.
But if that was the case.... why not just come out and say it? I would've been a lot more forgiving of Liara's ME2 content if the devs had explained their reasoning behind it. Something specific like "here's what we were trying to accomplish in this scene...." I know she is their character, and can do whatever they want with her. But we have a lot of emotional (not to mention monetary) investment in Liara. Showing us a little compassion would go a long way, I think.
All we got was Casey's "rocky" statement. Rocky? The relationship isn't rocky. It's completely MISSING!
Because in business, you try not to come out and admit those types of mistakes. It can make you look extremely stupid.
If Casey had come out and said, "People will be extremely disappointed in the Liara's scene and wish it was better, but they just need to hold on for the comics to be released". It could bring a negative reaction from the public before the game is even released.
I agree, it would be nice to have all companies be completely truthful with us, but it is not the way it works.
Major trillion dollar financial institutions all the way down to small companies all do the exact same thing, I have honestly never seen a company come and tell people about their actual intentions unless they are completely screwed to the wall in a multi-billion dollar lawsuit (even at that they will deny everything half the time).
Usually companies will come out with cryptic and seemingly meaningless statement to achieve the goal of being semi-truthful.
Casey's "rocky" statement could have had several different meanings. Maybe he was trying to warn us what the scene would be like because of the comics, I have never talked to him so I wouldn't know.
We do indeed have a great emotional investment in Liara, we may have to accept the scene was not perfect and believe it will be fixed in the Liara DLC.
I wouldn't be suprised if they changed the first reunion in the Liara DLC and added at least a few more dialogue options.
