Oh, I've honestly never seen the Ash/Liara confrontation.

She is very upset over the fact that your interested in an alien.
Liara even says that she is mad because she is unlike any rival she has ever faced before.

Or did you guys just tell Ashley/Kaidan off right away and keep the romance with just Liara from the beginning?

I got it my first playthrough ever. I was trying to just be nice and friendly with Kaiden like I was with everyone else. After that though I always shut him down forcefully as soon as possible and he still makes it sound I was leading him on with my evil "mixed signals".

I really don't see why people read into that confrontation that Liara is agreeing to a threesome. She's agreeing to concurrent relationships, probably mostly out of uncertainity with exactly what humans think about fidelity and exclusivity usually. Asari can only meld with one person at a time, and there is never any mention of them being in any kind of poly-whatever relationships.

EDIT: Seemingly random spacing in my posts is driving me mad.

I never took it as her wanting a threesome... she comes up to you so that you say who you are really interested in.

Its either Kaida/Ashley, or her.

 Really? What makes this thread get singled out over the other character love threads?

Also, that picture of Liara posted most recently was brilliant. She looks lovely, so gorgeous.

Well, Kaiden does have that one line where he pretty much says to Femshep, "Oh, I didn't know you were one of THOSE."  He doesn't say those exact words, more like "I didn't know you were interested in other women."  It's just the way he says it.

I forgot during my current ME1 playthrough that if you show Kaiden even the smallest bit of interest as him as a person he takes it the wrong way.  I tried to contain the damage at the end of the first dialogue with him, telling him that I like to get to know all my crew, but it didn't work.  He goes on about how he'd like it if we got to know each other better.

Just like last time through I'm going to have to tell him that I'm interested in "Dr. T'Soni" and there is nothing between he and I.  But, no, I never actually got to the confrontation scenes and don't plan to this time either.

Yes, but at least he doesnt insult Liara really like Ashley. She sounded like she was going to punch Liara in the face.

Even though Kaidan seems to handle it like a man after Shep chooses Liara in the love triangle, I always hate putting the thought in Liara's mind that Shep wasn't interested in her.
I did the love triangle once (I was trying not to be mean to Kaidan) and I always shot Kaidan down at the beginning after that. Just the thought of Liara thinking Shepard didn't love her makes me sad.
Liara needs Love and Happiness with Shep. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/love.png[/smilie]

It does ****** me off that Kaidan immdiately thinks that because you are nice to him, you want to have a relationship with him. Talk about jumping to conclusions.
I guess he did eventually figure out Shep was a lesbian, but it took him long enough.

I like turning Kaidan down in the first dialog (right after recruiting Liara) because then when you then ask him about the mission and if he has intentions for Dr. T'Soni you can tell him, 'Don't get any ideas Lieutenant, I saw her first.'

I LOVE IT!!

That's impossible!  There were no f/f relationships in ME.  The Asari aren't women because they are "mon-gendered," even if mono-gendered means one gender not no gender!  Kaiden couldn't have acknowledged something through in game dialogue that clearly doesn't exist.  Image IPB

Only by a few seconds...

I love that convo with Kaidan, too. You get it if you're playing a DudeShep as well. It comes across as two guys discussing the chicks, like they're chatting in a pub or something.

I love how Kaidan describes Liara as a "sweet girl", "easy on the eyes" and "the bookish sort". You're not wrong, Kai, she's beautiful.

I've never seen that one : (  Can you still "forgive" him for the beacon?  I guess I need to experiment a bit more, I try to shut him down, but I must still be too nice because all I get is the "mixed signals" line.

I still have not fully discarded the theory that EA holds a grudge against Liara because of the media campaign against ME 1. I don't even know much about that whole debacle, but didn't they especially cite the Liara romance? EA doesn't like bad PR, like any company. We will see soon enough if there's anything to that theory.

You have a good point there and is something I've thought about previously.  The question is how much is it a drving factor coming from EA and how much is it just BW not standing up to protect their work/character?  Don't know the answer to that.

I think it is more likely EA would have said said "no more nude scenes" and less likely they said "no more Liara", however if the decision was made by BW I could see them using an "out" with the current Liara story to remove the f/f romance option from the game.

That said, EA certainly does impose release dates, and which content to outsource into comics for example. Depending on when these decisions were made, there could just not have been enough time for the developers to do anything different. Plus, don't forget that the problems started way earlier. The decision was made not to produce an actual second part of a trilogy, but to make ME 2 a completely new game. I have little doubt that this would not have been the decision of the "little" people who actually worked on ME 1, and obviously cared so much about it. That the gentlemen in charge at BioWare don't care that much was obvious when they sold out.

All true, though while EA will certainly drive them to a release date I doubt they care much which content gets cut to make that happen.  I also would have doubts that EA is responsible for the gimmick of intrducing the suicide mission, though I suppose it could have come from them.  Whatever the case, it is clear that a "decision maker" somewhere along the line said "this shall be" and whatever the real sequel that the "little" people as you mentioned originally had in mind was lost.

But as far as I know, this topic isn't well liked in this forums, and it's already somewhat off-topic, so I'll leave it at that.

Meh, like I care what the forum does/doesn't like.  Besides its not like devs or mods actually read these threads.

I'd actually like to see Ash tease Liara about her sex life.  It would be cute.  Liara would probably get a little embarrassed.

I always tell Ash 'That's between you and her!' b/c I love it when  Ash gets the smirk and says, 'Hmm, scuttlebutt says otherwise.'

This is with a FemShep so I'm not sure if it's different with a male since Ash is also interested in you.

Speaking about Kaidan. After rescuing Liara, you can ask him about an opinion. He will basically tell you that she's nice enough. Sometimes you can then reply like "don't forget I've seen her first". ;) I could never figure out why that line is sometimes available, and sometimes not.

If you recruit Liara first (which most here probably do :D) you need to talk to Kaidan and turn him down before asking him about the last mission (i.e., Liara).  When you ask him if he has intentions on Liara, he gives you the 'MaleShepard' response as opposed to the response he gives a FemShep who is still 'romancing' him.

Yep : )  I'm looking forward to hearing exactly what the PR explanation for Kelly is in ME2.  Maybe in the future all stripper/psychologist/secretaries are robots or something.

I was paragon and she just said that if I made her do anything against her code she would come after me.

If you speak with her frequently, explore all conversation options, and trigger her context-sensitive conversation "options"  (bring her to certain places), she'll tell you many things:

1)  Will return to help a Paragon Shepard
2)  Will be compelled to hunt a Renegade Shepard
3)  Will return to Omega to clean the place up
4)  Will no longer be bound to Shepard by the Code after the completion of her mission
5)  (Jokingly) Will clean up Tuchanka and teach the Krogan lessons in civility, using bullets

Actually, she says she wants to AVOID a Renegade Shepard. She obviously sees him as a good friend but her code compells her to kill him. Although she can pretty much apprantly try and avoid Shepard at all costs because she probally understands what he's doing is very important to the Galaxy and probally more bad than good will come out of Shepard's death.

Also, it isn't bad writing that Samara still likes Shepard. She's a Renegade herself, she kills without mercy and does whatever it takes so that the ends justify the means. Everything a Renegade Shepard is, minus the religion and the fact that Shepard kills civilians but only when nessessary. In other words, Shepard can't be evil, everything you do in this game can be justified somehow. Although picking Morinth over Samara might have been a little extreme because it has no justifcation whatsoever.

Samara will probally make  sure she'll never come into contact with a Renegade Shepard after the Reaper Invasion is over. And by the mistake that she does, Shepard will probally own her.

Yep, she says that to FemShep right after recruiting Liara (as long as you've talked to Liara at least once before talking to Ashley).  I love that line from Ash.
