You may have seen Indigowolfe around here recently. He's my brother, and sometimes seems to think I am at war with the Liara romance. ME: Redemption does make me *slightly* disgruntled, I will admit (dah durr Bioware canonizing things, fan bias, blah--he can tell you more if you want to know), but I am not actually in opposition to the Liara romance. I'm just a fan of a different one is all.
Heh, it's alright, there's no need to qualify your beliefs or anything. you prefer Ashley's romance, that's fine!
Regarding Redemption, realistically they had to have it that Liara is the character who recovered Shepard's corpse, due to the fact that either Ashley or Kaidan are dead, and putting either one of them in the comic would be "canonizing" the series. In the comic though, it's let sufficiently ambiguous so that Liara romancers can easily interpret it as Liara trying to save the life of her lover, and going through all of these hardships out of love. Or it can be easily interpreted as Liara trying to save the life of her close friend in Shepard. It's left ambiguous so it's open to interpretation, just like how Shepard's gender is never mentioned.
I do feel as well that Liara was given the comic and this role in recovering Shepard's corpse because BW see her as one of the most important characters in the trilogy, perhaps second only to Shepard, what with her role in finding Ilos, her actions as depicted in Redemption and the fact that she's the only squadmate guaranteed to be alive for ME3.
