Playing through ME1 now with a FemShep, I have to say I do prefer Shepard as a woman, and I like Liara's romance with a FemShep too. I like to pretend that throughout her life, Shepard has had to deal with prejudice and being ostracised over being a lesbian, and was shunned somewhat by her fellow officers in the Alliance. When she found Liara, though, they fell into each other's arms and deeply in love. Shepard, having never really had a serious relationship before, and Liara, the shy, reclusive, compassionate scientist who hid herself away from other people. It's the perfect match, and they love each other deeply.

The game takes place in the year (start) 2183, I would think that in 173 years people would get over same sex relationships stigmas, especialy since humans have run into a whole alien race that is just one gender, mono-gendered one at that, I would think the military would have just had the same rules of fraternizing within their ranks for either gender.

But I would agree with you for the most part though, I just see Shepard as never finding anyone before that pulled so hard on her heart strings, Liara is a perfect fit Image IPB

there is to many hateful gay bashers in this world for that to happen, as for my opinion---I believe in freedom of sexualty to do what you wish.

Same. Bigots can go to hell.

I'll kick em in there ass before they go to hell:devil:

I especially hate men bigots that bash gay men, they can get Violent-------my uncle is gay and I love him so who  cares what bigots think.

I'd hope so...but I think humanity could also be more discriminatory against same-sex romances after the discovery of (potentially hostile) alien lifeforms.  There might be an idealistic push towards increasing the human population for colonizaiton and for defensive purposes.  Thus, heterosexual baby-making relationships would be the ideal while homosexual ones would not.  These ideals, if propagated by human governments, the Alliance, etc., could lead to discrimination against homsexuals.

I dont know why so many people here dislike maleshep.

In my mind, MaleShep is just boring.  The Male Space Marine thing has been overdone.  Plus, MaleShep can jump from female alien lover to female alien lover and that just seems too reminiscent of Capt. Kirk. (who is a douche).

My maleshep is faithful to Liara.:innocent:<3

Yours was but most jumped on Tali the first chance they got.  The possibility to be a galactic space pimp is still there for MaleShep.

I kind of like that FemSheps only have Liara (for a female LI, anyway).  It just seems more special.  At first I was peeved that there wasn't a new f/f romance option for FemShep in ME2 but this was more out of principle than myself wanting to dump Liara for another (never!!!)   Now, I don't care anymore because Liara >>>>>>>>>>> all who are not Liara.

Tali?? No... I remained faithful to my Liara as my imported male Adapt and was highly pissed off at the reception I got. Still remained faithful to her hoping that I could go back and talk to her after the mission. That didn't happen either. So now I remain faithful and wait for the DLC. Last chance for Bioware to make it right.

@somebody1003 - Tell me about it. I don't mind femshep but some of us have a dudeshep too :(

Yeah, Id like to see malesheps once in a while, I feel like Im in the minority here.

First, Shepard is female!  I don't know why you guys keep refering to this "Ah yes, dudeshep.  I thought we had dismissed that claim."  Image IPB

Second, femshep is infinitely cooler than any dude.  A strong woman kicking ass and saving the galaxy?  Fulf of win.

Third, "lesbian mind sex" is hawt.  Image IPB

And fourth, and most importantly, if there were pictures of Liara with some dude, my mind would register that as Liara being unfaithful (which happens from time to time when I do see dudeshep-Liara art), and that makes me go Image IPB.

Hell. Yeah.
I agree with all of that.

You know, I still give credit to BioWare for letting Shepard be a lesbian (even better, it is with Liara!! Whom is apparently asexual in Mr. Hudson's dream world, I am sure it is nice in there and full of asexual bunny rabbits and asexual rainbows), my characters never get romance otherwise.

Anyone else like that Bethseda will just go as far with your character being a lesbian as telling Amata, "I was just dreaming about you" Where she gets grossed out and shoots you down... Goddamn it, my character in Fallout 3 is so alone. I wish Liara was in there as well (except I wouldn't want her to be hurt by a centaur or radiation).

Yeah, no offense to Male Shepard fans but Female Shepard and Liara definitely feel like the right romance.

Also have Bethesda ever had companions/romances?  I've only played Elder Scrolls IV and Fallout 3 and you couldn't really count the "companions" in Fallout 3 as "companions", just glorified loot holders.  I'm hoping Obsidian add real companions to the upcoming Fallout Vegas.

And that sounds like something humans would do. We can't just live and let live. I spare the council in all my playthroughs, I'd hate to see a human empire.

Random Liara pic!!

Yay!! She's beautiful!

She looks like she's pondering something, like she's really deep in thought.

Like J said, the Male Space Marine thing has been done to death, and FemShep is alot more interesting. Plus, FemShep kinda reminds me of Samus Aran!

Like how much she wants to jump your bones!!!

J I love this pic you have in your Liara collection for some reason. Liara working at her computer in ME1. Used to love walking in to see her, and the way Liara would eagerly turn her head and stand up to greet Shepard.

No offense to the femsheps either, but I don't think it was more meant for either sex. Liara can bond with both, and still have a family. It works out just fine, well in my opinion.

I think that it is probably accepted as an equally valid personal choice legally and officially.  There is still room for personal attitudes, and there should be.  Technically, no one has an excuse for having any kind of sex aboard a military vessel.  Even the paramilitary situation in ME2, on the close confines of a ship that kind of stuff is just asking for trouble.
Really the problem for me in both games wasn't that the developers decided Ashley, Tali, Miranda, and Jack weren't interested in women, it was that they dictated Shepard sexuality by the dialog choices they provide.  Shepard isn't given the chance to express an interest in Ashley and be turned down.  But Shepard can hump Jacob's leg right from the start.  In effect they're saying who Shepard will be interested in.

One of the things I dislike about the books is the amount of pro-human editorialisation nonsense.

I've always had the impression from the start in ME1 long ago that the Asari were a central part of the Mass Effect universe, BW did alot with them in mind not only with Liara but on the outskirts of the main storyline, strong characters throughout me1 and me2, Benezia, Consort, Nassana Dantius, Samara/Morinth and the whole world of Illos, with this in mind I have real hope for something special in either a DLC for Liara or in ME3.

I may be a deamer but the writing is there, or maybe I read to much into it....Naa

Unfortunately, humans still hate each other as much as we always have. (It does get better as more people become educated, but there are 6 billion of us, to educate everyone would take a full century and probably result in millions of deaths. I could go on about how this would probably work out, but you probably get the idea).

Even in WW1 and WW2, a lot of soldiers were still racist, even when millions were dying all around them.
Humans always find time for petty hate, probably the same with aliens.
I am not trying to be pessimistic, but organic beings work that way, we need to find a common enemy to unite against or we all hate everything.

But it is not like that with everyone, just a large portion of the world.

@bjdbwea, are you using a modified Coalesced file to get ship-ware on Shepard off ship?

Always thought it odd that your squad was the only ones running around in full armor and weapons a pleanty at main ports, that looks so much better.

I truly disliked what they did to the asari in ME2.  They took the oldest, wisest and most revered species into the galaxy and turned most of them into gang members, scheming criminals, ****s or psychopaths.

No one is safe from BioWare's darkness obession.

I think that in the ME universe, homosexuality is more publicly acceptable than it is now. I have realized, however, that the "Humans First" advocates are just the contemporary version of the anti-homosexuality advocates. They lost the "fight" against homosexuality, so now they've moved on to xenophilia. In the ME setting, humanity has achieved near-total racial singularity, and racism is the oldest "fight" of all. They'll just keep on finding new things to hate.

It would be very trite and vain of Shepard to love Liara partially because she's an alien.  In doing so he would just be spiting the "Humans First" advocates, but he should be allowed to take pleasure in watching the steam spout from their ears whenever he shows up on the news holding hands with Liara.

Agreed. At least Aethyta had the right idea. Too bad she ended up becoming a bartender. I hope they give her a cameo in ME3. I loved Aethyta. :)
