That's the same way I think.
I am really tired of the badass guy gets the hot chick ending to video games (or even a testosterone filled maniac *cough* Gears of War *cough*).
I like roleplaying as a male if I can roleplay a 'suave, sensual, but compassionate' rogue type of character. I can do this in most fantasy settings. DudeShep, though, just comes off as the typical testosterone filled Space Marine. Meer, unfortunately, adds no emotion to his VO and DudeShep just sounds flat and uninterested when he's trying to woo the ladies. FemShep is almost the same in every way as DudeShep excepting that Hale brings some emotion to her character.
To add to that, I think Shepard's actions and comments, which are mostly the same for both genders, come across as more awesome when Hale delivers them or they are done by a female avatar. Femshep doesn't come across as a woman acting like a man (which was a danger), but instead as a very strong woman who is sure of herself and her role, and doesn't take crap from anyone.
Its very refreshing and quite frankly very attractive.
Yes, I agree Hale does make FemShep great. She has an amazing voice.
I just have trouble playing as a male character no matter what, for some reason, I never give a rat's ass what happens to him and I find the game to be kind of dull. That's just me though.
I always hate how some games are just m/f romances, I just ignore the romance unless it is f/f. I can't RP romancing another guy.
Meer definitely gave a blank performance from what I have heard on YouTube, at least Marcus Fenix grunted in several different ways throughout the game. Hell, the Master Chief could go from pissed off to very angry at one point.
Not that people are not entitled to play as MaleShep, this is just my opinion.
I have to say, whenever I hear the words Space Marine, I want to yell, "Send in the Dreadnoughts! Landspeeders deployed! For the Emperor!"
