Speaking of voice acting, do you think Ali Hillis was flat out told to make Liara's voice slightly deeper and more breathy for ME2, as part of the "dark and edginess"? There are definitely parts when she sounds exactly like she did in ME1, like when she opens up to Shep and tells you how she saved you from the Shadow Broker. It's good to hear Liara speaking in her old tone of voice.

I felt that it was all part of the emotions of the reunion.
When you play the reunion, the old her breaks through the shield she has put up to protect herself.
I thought It adds to the fact that Liara doesn't enjoy being an information broker and would rather spend her time with Shepard, but she is unable to.

I thought it was heartbreaking to see the old Liara stuck in a tough situation for two years and she had to temporarily harden herself because of it.
Goddamn it, we need that DLC! <3

That lighting in her office is totally screwed up.

Not only in the office. The lighting, and shadows too, look really odd at several points. It must have to do with all the effects that are supposed to look "cool". I've tried several things, but it's never been perfect. This was never the case in ME 1.

Those lamps flanking her desk seemed to cause the biggest problem the closer I got to them, especially the one to Liara's left.  I eventually gave up testing out skin colors in her office and went back to the Normandy.  What looks like asari blue on the Normandy looked slate grey in her office, and then that chalky peach near those lamps.

@Marcin:
Yeah, If Shep and Liara had those guys on their side, they would win in no time.

BioWare should include The Death Korps of Krieg in ME3 as the badass alien fighters, lol.
The Death Korps of Krieg and the Armageddon Steel Legion are my favorite IG regiments, they need to be in ME3, lol.

@Les

I know your the one here who always tells us that Liara doesnt like what she has to do now, what makes you think that?

I was just wondering, why are you so sure she hates her current job?
She seemed to dislike what bad things she was doing but I got the impression that she liked being an information broker.

Slightly off-topic... but I've noticed a disturbing-yet-funny trend wherein every third time femShep's "I just want to talk about you" to Jacob gets mentioned, it gets... what's the word, stronger? (Only disturbing because I think there isn't much further to go -- all three of my replies I realize are NSFW, definitely NSF Forum :P )

Yeah, everytime I hear Jacob say that or it is brought up, my hatred for Jacob and the other ME FemShep LIs comes back (except Liara of course, she is a Goddess).

I didn't get the impression she liked it at all - I think she realized she's good at it and that it's basically the only means she has to get to the Shadow Broker.

And it makes sense she'd be good at scavenging information - she's had like 60+ years of experience doing so. Her threatening clients and managing a network of contacts is pretty hard to believe since she has no social skills and no allies, but the research part is right up her alley. Unless someone helped her get started I think that's a huge plot hole - it really needs to be explained, I think (Though it's likely whomever Feron works for helps her out).

I mean, she basically says "I'm stuck doing this for better or worse" at the end of one conversation branch.

Basically, everything that Driven said. The only aspect of the job that I could see enjoying is the gathering of information and knowledge, what with her being an archaeologist and having a doctorate in science. Everything else, the strongarming, the threatening, the isolation, the lack of friends, all of that is making her thoroughly miserable. You need only look at how sad and stressed out in the game to see how much she hates what she's doing. The only reason she's doing it is because she sees it as the best was to locate the Shadow Broker, not because she enjoys it in any capacity. Hell, she even says she wishes she could come with Shepard.

And like Driven says, Liara's sad and pensive pause when she says "Everything I'm doing, I'm doing of my own free will... ...for better or for worse". She's thoroughly miserable in ME2, and it shows.

In regard to Liara disliking her work as an information broker.
I agree with both of you, she definitely doesn't enjoy her work.
The emotions involved in the reunion and the comics tell that. I don't believe she enjoyed killing all those people during the comics, but she did so because she was angry at the SB for trying to take her only love aways after she died and she was still greiving over the loss.
BioWare even put the time into her facial features, showing her sadness and guilt. :crying:

I don't really think her voice in ME2 is deeper because they were trying to make it "darker and edgier", I believe her voice is different because of what she has had to endure for the past two years.
She just seems exhausted and she wants to stop, but she has so many thoughts and emotions going through her that she doesn't know how to. There is probably something else we don't know about the SB that will be revealed in Redemption #4 that will explain why she has been on a crusade against him for two years. (Besides stealing Shepard's body).

I can't wait to comfort her and help her get through her negative emotions, only a couple months more at the most till release I would think. <3

Different kind of joining, I think. It's the difference between sharing a long litany of knowledge and interperative viewpoints and simple feelings of passion or love.

Yep, it definitely does seem like there are different types of the asari meld. There's obviously the transfer of knowledge and information that Shepard does with Shiala and Liara in the Normandy crew room, and then there's obviously the true asari union when you meld with Liara in the love scene, and that's obviously about love, passion and joining their bodies and minds into one.

I hope in the Liara DLC, there will be an emotional conversation about the Union from ME1. I would assume it would take different conversations to help Liara throughout the DLC.
I think it would mean a lot to Liara for Shepard to talk about her feelings during and after the Union.

Shepard might tell Liara how much the Union meant to her, it was the most beautiful thing she had ever experienced, and how she truly knows who the real Liara is, and that Liara has not changed and she is not a monster, she just needs Shepard to be there for her and help her.
Just like Liara was there for Shepard and was willing to sacrifice everything to save her.

Concerning that counter, I won't hold my breath for anything. If it's already ME 3 or DA 2 related, all that would achieve is lower my expectations even further. You just can't do really great games in such short time, just look at ME 2 and Awakening. It can't be Liara DLC either, as in any case that would not be announced before that last comic is out.

That'd be brilliant, I'd love it if in the Liara DLC they speak about the union from ME1, and how much it meant to both of them. I want them to rekindle the romance. I want Shepard to comfort Liara, and help her through her emotional torment and guilt. Can't wait!

Liara tells you why sifting through Shepard's head is exhausting. When you tell her that you came across a working Prothean Beacon she says that she's impressed, that Shepard must be remarkably strong-willed because those beacons destroy minds. And the beacon on Eden Prime blew up in mid-transfer and knocked Shepard out to boot.

So when she is melding in the conference room she is reliving Shepards exposure to those mind-destroying beacons, in which one of them blew up, and also fighting against Shepard's subconscious the whole time. Shiala on Feros doesn't sort through Shepard being exposed to the beacon, she transfers the Cipher from herself to Shepard.

My impression is that they can share physical sensation, sort through/transfer information, form a union which is a mental and phyiscal joining, and then the version of the union wherein they also initiate parthogenesis and fertilize the gamete with the gestalt nervous system.
