It seems BioWare took a very, feudal era Japanese, approach to prostitution in their games. In that, sex isn't cheating if you pay for it. It's more a release, and not love based. Being in love with someone else, that is cheating/being unfaithful, and not accepted.

In Mass Effect, Liara gets jealous when you go see the Consort, but doesn't hate you or leave you, if you sleep with her. In Dragon Age, your LI doesn't leave you or get upset if you have sex with the ****s at The Pearl.

I think part of it is also the general lack of actual consequences for pretty much any action.  Wrex on Virmire and the genophage cure is about the only exception to that, and even that is more of a plot element than a reaction to the player's actions.  It might also be a consequence of dumbing down the romances so people weren't able to mess them up and miss out on them.  I didn't even know there were romances in KOTOR until after I had finished the game because I hadn't done the right things to trigger them.
Shepard's Paragon and Renegade actions should really influence how each particular potential love interest views them as well.  Instead of it being based solely on what Shepard has in their pants.  That total score, in addition to specific actions, is an indicator of Shepard's personality.   But I guess that isn't anything worth taking into account when establishing a relationship with someone as long as they have the right anatomy.

Actually romance options in Kotor 1 were pretty good hidden within dialogue options and it was really easy to miss them.

Bastila's romance trigger was talk about love (stuff absolutely forbidden in Jedi Order), where was Carth romance trigger i never figured out... so it was possible to go whole game without romancing anybody.

But i think days of such "complicated" romance plots are over... however i might be wrong too (i hope).

The lighting in Liara's office really does effect her skin colour. Look at how much more blue she looks here compared to when she's sat at her desk:

She's obviously still a lighter blue compared to ME1, but not the grey colour she seems to be when sat at her desk.

Liara is beautiful no matter what color she is. But I agree with what was said before on this subject. That all the stress, worry, guilt, sadness, and grief she has been thru, most likely had an effect on how she looks.

Agreed, she's still gorgeous and mesmirisingly beautiful in ME2. It makes you sad though that those once vibrant blue eyes are now a duller grey. She's been through a hell of a lot, and you just want to hug her. :crying:

The BBG will be back to her beautiful blue once she's comforted and her emotional pain is relieved, though. I can't wait until she's happy again.

I really hope we get to comfort her. Liara needs more from Shepard, that scene will never sit right with.

Played through Mass Effect 2 and went to Illium again.

Everytime I do this sidequest of the Asari and the Krogan who's trying to win her heart, I just can't seem to convince the Asari to just dump him there and then. Even on my Renegade playthroughs. The reason being is just how when she said she explained how her kids won't be Krogan to him but Asari and then he replyed with "I'll love our children no matter what colour they are." just makes me go "Aaaaaw!" everytime.

Reminds me of Shepard and Liara in some weird way. Like, when the Reaper Invasion is over and Liara just asks him if he regrets being with her because he won't have human kids. In which Shepard just uses that line in response.

Also, a nice touch to the part where the Asari walks over to the Krogan would be that Shepard watches them talk for a minute and you just see Shepard smiling if you have done the Liara romance. I'm pretty sure you can guess what he/she would be thinking.

HomocidalFrog, that's poss. one of my favorite side quests! And my renegade playthrough would never try to break those two up, since that's my Liara-mance<3

Which is why I'm super excited for the Liara DLC. The way Liara has been written, they've got to have her open up to Shepard and admit all of her guilt and emotional pain, with Shepard comforting her, with additional lines and a scene if Liara is your LI. Perfect way to rekindle the romance, plus we get to help ease Liara's torment and make her happy again.

A Krogan showing more empathy than Shepard can. Shame on you, BioWare. <_<

Really? I found it hard after I discovered she'd be stuck on Tuchanka for the rest of their lives, so I split em up, it's a very depressing place.

I've never gone back to Tuchanka after the matchmaking, but I figure, love conquers all, right? For how they sideline Liara in ME2, this has to be true for Liara and Shepard to get their happy ending in ME3! Besides, I thought that Krogan was adorable!

You...you monster! :crying:

And the same could be said about Illium, only it's worse because it hides the fact that it's a horrible place to live with fancy enviroments. Or Earth, from the looks of Mass Effect background info, it's not a nice place.

Plus, they'd probally eventually talk it out and realize Tuchanka isn't a place for them and move to like, Thessia or the Citadel. Or the Krogan would kick them offworld because one of thems not a Krogan.

I split up the Asari/Krogan too. She didn't seem like a Tuchanka kind of gal. The relationship is doomed.

New ME1 playthrough means....new Liara pictures!!

I'm starting to wonder about the whole "extra dialog that suggests Liara will become the next SB thing." This is unrestrained optimism on my part, not something I usually do.

What if they, for the sake of discussion, are just extra files that BW plugged into ME2 in order to make us think that she would become the SB? Seems strange, I know, but it might be a bit of a red herring. It just seems a bit odd that they would leave unused audio files in the game that suggest she would become the new SB. They would never do this sort of thing in a DLC as it's way too important; if that can be excluded, what other reason would they have? They had to know that people would find them, especially with conspicuous names with "Liara" in them. Just an idea.

I always liked Liara in the darker colored armors.  And you're playing my favorite squad!  Soldier femShep, Liara, and Tali.

I always keep the asari and the krogan together too. That krogan was so sweet with his love poems, that I'd imagine he'd do anything for his lover, including move off Tuchanka if she's not happy. Made me feel good inside, and reminded me that I've got Liara to love and fight for!

Also, a bit like HomicidalFrog says, I like to think there were alot of little references to the Shepard and Liara relationship in the game. Shep's little offended look when that asari says about human lifespan, the asari that cries over her deceased human bondmate's picture in her locket, the turian and the asari couple on the Citadel that are trying to buy a fish, and the turian gets all annoyed when she starts talking about lifespan again. All nice little references to Shepard and Liara's relationship and love, I feel.

Also, nice screenshot J! Will there be more Liara ones on the way?

@ Unit-Alpha, hat would be an interesting development, but I certainly hope Liara doesn't end up that deep into the information business! We want Liara back for ME3!

I read some where earlier today that someone thought TIM is the SB? Idk.

I think they go through multiple voice acting revisions as part of the production process.  If you look at the Kasumi trailer and the old hidden files, the two aren't even remotely similar.

Given how badly they messed up all the Liara scenes, I think whoever was in charge of them just got really swamped and didn't have time to implement them cleanly.  There's just so much weirdness going on there that clearly isn't intentional.

I think there's a very good reason they dumped those audio files though. They realised how daft it would've been to have Liara's reason for not joining you be "I need to read" and it completely ignores that Liara's sole motivation and reason for working as an information broker was to take down the Shadow Broker. Once he's gone, she's going to want to abandon the work that's made her so miserable, and go with Shepard again as she says she wants to. Their original idea was pretty dumb, in my opinion.

So glad they never used those original audio files!! Here's to more Liara in the near future in her DLC!

I just can't wait until the final issue of the comic comes out. I'm hoping something substantial is revealed at the end. If it's just what we know already I'll be disappointed.

New pic! (I think)
