Yeah, that's a pretty interesting point there... why would they ground Joker, one of the best pilots in the Alliance? Splitting up the crew was all they had to do to keep the lid on the Reaper threat. And like you can ask Dr. Chakwas, and point out that she could've gotten onto any starship she wanted... there had to be some other reason for Joker getting grounded. Like him and Liara mentioning that he refused evacuation at the hearing.
He did pay for insubordination -- not the discharge he should have gotten (possibly because of his record) but it's the only thing that makes sense. Now, anyway.

He probably spoke up and because of that was grounded.

Well that too, but no one is calling Shepard a lunatic except for the turian councilor anyway. Still, there's a goodly chance that either or both are contributing factors.

Id rather see the look on his face in ME3.mrbeavis19 wrote...
I really wish there was some third option at the end of ME1 where you could kill just the turian councilor. I hate that guy. <_<

Okay, I'll just *sigh* and go "Oh, Stubbs..." and leave it at that. (Probably JP as well.) With one last bit -- do you really think Liara would appreciate that? Hmm? *crosses arms and gives knowing look* She's not that hardened in ME2...

I can’t recall who posted this, (apologies), but someone on the board mentioned that their femShep might possibly cry after her meeting w/ Liara. I think it was in reference to thinking of all the things Liara has endured. Taking into account that everyone’s own Shep is the canon Shepard, would your Shepard (male or female) cry? I’ll go first.
My main femShep, Urania, is a colonist/sole survivor. I don’t think she would cry, at least not right away. Not only has she seen enough death to be able to bottle it up, she has to concentrate on the mission. However, I could see her doing some mundane task or perhaps something she and Liara did together and it would hit her. She might not even notice that she was crying at first, and then she would catch herself, get mad at herself for letting it get to her. Maybe have a drink. Then get back to work.
Anyway, just putting it out there.

Shepard's death was downplayed and obscured, so that would have been the only thing saving Joker from a court martial or any kind of official reprimand. His career was probably over though and he'd be piloting a desk. At the very least his actions would be viewed as contributing factors to the death of the hero of the battle of the Citadel and the first human Spectre.
I'm sure that Liara or the Virmire survivor would have been ticked off enough not to hold back on the truth just to protect Joker's career.

This is totally true -- and I'd really like some evidence that the Joker I thought I knew wouldn't hold back on himself. Joker comes off from my observation in my playthroughs as someone who'd realize what he'd done after the fact, and admit it. "I refused evacuation because of my stubborn belief that I could keep the Normandy together until help arrived, and Lieutenant Commander Shepard is dead in large part because of that."
I'm not sure, though, am I seeing a different Joker than everyone else?

That's the Joker I WANTED to see. I liked him in ME1 a lot, I owed him one for rescuing Liara on Therum, and that Mako drop on Ilos is just awesome all around. But then when you meet up with him he doesn't seem at all to appreciate what you did, or sorry that he could have made better decisions. All he does is say he got grounded so he joined a terrorist organization. That isn't exactly the kind of second chance that is worth Shepard's life to give to someone.JaylaClark wrote...

Well, we need to at least slap Joker across the face at some point, I am pretty sure Liara would approve of that little punishment.JaylaClark wrote...
