I always found Liara to be the exception to the rule as a Maidan (there are always exceptions to the social norm), if she was really different than the beautiful personality we saw in ME1, why did she work on dig sights for so long by herself?
That shows that she was telling the truth and explains why she is socially akward.
Even when you execute those Salarians that are mindless and trapped in Saren's base, Liara seems to turn away because it is too brutal.
I know that it is the same for all of the squadmates, but why put that in there if Liara was really different? Shouldn't they have had her be uncaring in ME1?

I think the reason she wasn't sad at all when Benezia died was because she was trying to hold all of her emotions in and be strong for Shepard and the mission.
The way she is in ME2 is what happens when someone gets consumed by negative emotions, surre they can be helped though, they just need someone to help them (Shepard in Liara's case).
Some of the most brutal killers ever could have been normal if it wasn't for were they live and/or grew up, your brain adapts to your environment.

So I think this whole situation was BioWare's way of having all of the negative emotions Liara has had to deal with since she joined up with Shepard and since Shepard died.
It just doesn't make as much sense to us right now because Shepard can't do anything to comfort her (because of the comics).
Because the reunion is actually very well done if it wasn't for Shepard, it is truly heartbreaking to see Liara the emotionally tormented.
But that will be fixed in Beautiful Blue Goddess DLC.<3:wub:

Hey, good to have you back Les. Liara missed you!

I think the reason why Liara held her feelings back when her mother died was because of her Asari culture and standards had something to do with it but thats not all-she still has feelings just like humans, and maybe thats why she IS emotionally tormented.

and I hope BW comes out with a Liara DLC soon, damn you BioWare [shakes fist at]

Hello all, Why is everyone talkin about wombats?

Christina Norman made a comment on her "project wombat for ME3" on twitter the other day.

Whats that?

The FPS shooter they are turning ME3 into. No squad only you against the reapers, big guns and a lot of explosions. No blue adorably aliens.

Well, we assume a lot about Liara's emotional state of mind. We assume we would act as a human would. Then again, we hear asari are very pragmatic about their relationships, enjoying the time they have as best they can. That doesn't mean they are not sad, as we see on Illium when the asari cries for her dead human husband (a foreshadowing of things to come for Liara?).

Still, I think Liara is ambitious for her own life and would probably chaffe at the idea she would stand second to Shepard forever. Perhaps she WANTS to be the Shadow Broker, to offer something of her own (at least in her mind) rather than just be a hanger on. Whether she can remain in the position uncorrupted (doubtful) remains to be seen. No other romance has had someone turn to a darker side. In fact, most of them become "brighter" (Miranda's loyalty, Jack's opening up, etc).

I think Liara has always had a huge amount of determination and willpower. She grew up the daughter of one of the most influential Matriarchs. Her mother had a whole cadre of personal followers, people that had set aside their own lives to follow Benezia. The codex says that asari don't have politicians, Benezia was a respected leader because she was a great and charismatic leader.

Liara talks about being groomed for that kind of role and the expectations on her to follow in Benezia's footsteps. Liara then goes and does what she wants to do in spite of all that pressure. And she's really good at what she does, she came up with that galactic extinction cycle on her own, so it wasn't just some childish tantrum.

Actually I wouldn't be surprised if the final battle did involve Shepard alone with you switching between his/her view and the rest of your squad

I don't think Liara would WANT to be the next SB at all, on account of her being so damn miserable in her role as an information broker. Really, the way I see it, Liara has taken all the bottled up hurt and emotional pain she's experienced since ME1 through to and during ME2 and is using the SB as a convenient figure to vent that pain onto, in the hope that it'll go away and that ending the SB will make her feel better again. That's why I'm so optimistic for Liara's DLC, as I think that is when Shep will be able to properly comfort her and convince her that killing the SB won't make her happy again, and that Shep herself will bring Liara's happiness back. Liara will probably really open up to Shepard, and reveal all of the pain she's been through. Shep can then tell her it's going to be alright, and that if she wants to feel better she can let it go and be with her again. That is what I'm hoping for, to help Liara deal with her suffering and demons in the best possible way.

I don't really see her thinking this way.  She was an asari archaeologist, a field that she even admits that she gets very little respect or recognition in because of her age.  She doesn't seem to care what her "peers" think, she continues her own investigations and has her own theories.  So I don't think her sense of self-worth is determined by comparing herself to others.
If she felt that way she could have found a lot more lucrative ways to cash in on being a hero of the battle of the Citadel.

I know this has been said before. But I think ME3 will be in some way similar to DA, in the fact you have to build up allies to take down the reaper fleet.

P.S
Oh Aseer, borrowed your sig, hope you don’t mind.

I believe so too, in my opinion there is a lot of evidences for something like that.

Me too, i'm hoping ME2 was the 'collect' a squad game, ME3 should be more like ME1, get a few squadmates early in game (to replace those who left/died after the suicide mission in ME2) followed by many story missions to unite the galaxy and/or find a weakness in the Reapers.

TBH, as long as Liara comes back I'm fine with what ever they decide to do story wise.

Microsoft will fix it for free if you have had it for less than three years just so you know.
Everyone should get to experience The Beautiful Blue Goddess's DLC and be able to comfort her!
