There are differences in Liara's facial expressions, J. And in the way in which she declines Shepard's offer to join the team. You have to look.



It really is quite ridiculous that we're having to compare YouTube videos of the Liara reunion in order to find acknowledgement of the romance. Such poor handling...

I'm sure we will ... though I'm still very tempted to do kind of a walkthrough-slash-flashback fic on Illium, as soon as I can plot out the outline.  (Meeting, flash to first meeting, go looking for terminals, unseen conversation on Noveria, that kind of pattern...)

But it's amazing how I missed a lot of her expressions in both games until recently.  And you know why?  I've been obsessively reading the subtitles just to make sure I don't miss a line.  (I don't know why I have this habit, but this must stop.  Especially on my SDTV.)

You know, I make an exception when I play Mass Effect. For all other characters, I read the subtitles and occasionally glace up at the characters face as they talk. With Liara, I focus on her face all the time. I just can't resist admiring her beauty, and I love watching her speak. She has such a beautiful and emotive face, that I have to look at it at all times. :wub:

Unata, what I think Liara is describing here is how much the asari union means to her. How it's more than just sex, but a deep, spiritual and emotional bond between two trusting and loving partners. A bond that transcends time and space, and marks true love, trust and connection to their partner. It shows how much she trusts and loves Shepard that she would even consider it, as it means so much to her. Like she says, she finds the idea of melding very daunting, but special. That's why she's never melded before, and wants to do it when she's completely comfortable and in love with her partner.

It's actually one of my favourite Liara conversations, as it shows just how much Shepard means to Liara, and how deeply she loves and trusts her, and the connection and deep emotional bond they share. It's heartwarming, and makes me love Liara!:wub:

Yep, the one and only LI that I will ever take throughout the entire Mass Effect series.

I can't imagine a playthrough or ME game in which Liara isn't my LI. I'd absolutely hate it, and just really wouldn't feel right.

It's only Liara for me!:wub:

Sorry if this is a bit off topic from the current thread of conversation, but I just had an idea. I've seen a few people putting forward the theory that Liara is/was pregnant with Shepard's baby as a reason for her apparent coldness towards Shepard (she's embarassed and thinks Shepard would hate her) and anger at the Shadow Broker (he either threatened/kidnapped/killed the child). At first, I found this highly unlikely, since any reasoning behind her personailty shift would have to apply, whether she was your LI or not, but then it got me thinking.
Now, bare with me, this is a bit crackpot.
What if, being inexperienced and never having melded properly with anyone before, she 'accidentally' got pregnant from one of the platonic melds that she does with Shepard. You know, the ones where she tries to help Shep understand the vision etc. Now this does sound a bit crazy, and I think it's rather unlikely, but it would explain a lot if it was true.
To use a rather crass analogy, it's like having sex for the first time. If you don't have a condom, you may try just to pull out at the last minute to avoid the possibility of pregnancy. If you're inexperienced however, chances are you'll be caught up in thje heat of the moment and won't succeed in doing so (yes, that was ratrher tasteless, but I think it fit quite well). I'm sure this wouldn't be an issue for most Asari who have melded with people frequently, but for Liara who hasn't done it much before if at all, she could have gone too deep so to speak.
If it was true (and even I doubt it is tbh), it would certainly explain why Liara was detached and distant during her encounter with Shep. Regardless of LI status, finding out you've accidentally impregnated yourself with sombodies child would be a pretty major cause for embarassment.
Yeah, I'm just going to shut up before I sound like a total idiot :P

Hey, don't worry! We like hearing everyone's theories, no matter how crackpot they are! :P

I don't think that Liara accidentally conceived Shepard's child. For one, I don't think the information exchange melds she has with Shepard are the first time she's ever done that, as I think she would have done the platonic meld with other asari in the past. It seems likely that the asari would use the information exchange meld as a useful means to transfer knowledge and information into each other's minds, so I think Liara would have done so in the past. Plus, when Liara says she has never melded before, she means the true, loving asari union, not the information exchange. She tells Shepard she has never melded before, even after you've already joined minds in the Comm Room. This to me says that Liara doesn't consider the information exchange a true meld.

Which brings me on to my next point, I think it's clear that there are two different types of meld, the aforementioned information exchange, platonic meld, and the true asari union between an asari and her partner and lover that can be used for the purposes of reproduction. Liara has only ever melded in a platonic manner prior to the night before Ilos, so I think there's little chance of her accidentally becoming pregnant.

Lastly, I think it's clear that asari also consciously choose as to when the union will result in her conceiving a child. If they didn't, it would make the Consort's job quite difficult. ;) During any meld, Liara would have to consciously allow herself to be impregnated, something that she wouldn't do as she's not irresponsible and stupid like that. It would be completely out of character.

And one other thing, you're forgetting that there was a whole month between the battle of the Citadel and the destruction of the Normandy. I'm sure that in that time, Liara would have discovered she had accidentally gotten pregnant and informed Shepard.

Thanks though, I do like reading new theories! I think that Liara intially appearing distant to Shepard is due to her fear that Shepard will hate her, as she explains later.

And one of her almost kissing Femshep.  Seriously, Maleshep gets plenty of marketing and advertisements.  Femshep has tons of fans that wish she would get the same and so I have a feeling those wishes get channeled into all the fanart that is made.  Plus, FemshepxLiara is just so darn cute!:wub:

Does anyone have a full-body shot of Liara on Illium? As in, you can see her entire body from head to toe without anything obstructing it. Prefferably one of her looking sad or pensive if possible. I think I saw something like it on an earlier page, but there are so many :P
