Can't Stand DudeShep's voice. Also, heard a lot of people on the forum comparing Shepard to James Bond. Even the new Kasumi DLC is an homage to Bond. Sorry Sheploo, not even close.

I just realized that Shepard never even thanked Liara for going through all that trouble to save her dead body from a gruesome fate. Not even one little, 'Thanks Liara'. Shepard either derides Liara for it or says 'You did the right thing' (this is so not a thank you!).

Shepard...what an ungrateful biatch!

Yeah, I never understood why you couldn't get a Paragon responce to that.  Maybe for DLC?

Whispers in Liara's ear "Thanks for not letting go."

It baffles me that something like this wasn't included in the game. It seems like such an obvious thing for a Shepard who romanced Liara to say. But no.... we get nothing. Shepard sits there like a bump on a log while Liara pours her heart out.  Two months after release, and I still get enraged thinking about it.....

Even if you didn't romance her, it would be proper to say 'Thanks' to Liara for caring about you enough to go through all the trouble to get your body...show some gratitude.. As it is, you get the option to scream at Liara, or you get the option to sit there like an idiot. I'm not sure which is worse.

Hale's voice is sexy.:P I am serious though, I love her voice.

Ha, I always laugh at the space marine comments, FOR THE EMPEROR!!!! Death is no excuse to stop fighting!!!

My Shep loves Liara with all her heart, even though she is being a bit of a ****** right now.

Yeah, ever since KotOR came out, :wub:Jennifer Hale:wub: has been my favorite voice actress in ever, so playing as a character voiced by her?  Total win :D.

Though for some reason it makes me wonder, who would win in a stand-up fight, Commander Shepard or Samus Aran?

And yeah, my Shepard loves her LiLi, but she's being so unnaturally reserved (I prefer that description over '******' :P) that I'm still thinking that I've got to rewrite that scene...   and eventually post it on ff.net to be mocked by the interweb (of course).

Jayla, nobody will mock your work! Do it, I want to see how you'll have Shepard comfort Liara, and Liara's reaction. It'll be so heartwarming!^_^

Like I said before, it's to maintain the status quo that Liara is still wracked with guilt over what she's done with Shepard, that she's still in pain emotionally. I believe they want to keep Liara this way as the big emotional reconciliation, comforting of Liara and Liara opening her heart to Shepard will occur in the Liara DLC, so they need to find some way to keep Liara tormented, and Shepard unsure of the relationship.

That doesn't stop it from being an incredibly contrived and unnatural way to write it, though. Of course Shepard will say something alot more intimate and reassuring to Liara, especially if she's your LI. Maybe even jump up and take the poor girl in a warm embrace. But they couldn't, as they want to save the big emotional moments for the DLC. Frustrating!

I know, she is just amazing!:wub:

Hmm, that does make me wonder, I guess Shepard may win if Samus was without her suit.

But "******" sounds so good! :D Ah, I still love my Shep though. She is just "unaturally reserved" as you put it (the refined way of saying my "******" remark).
I'd like to see your version of the scene, I am sure it will be great! As you will be writing about LiLi, so there is a lot of emotional involvment there.

Yeah Shepard is really a complete failure in that whole scene and even if you go the route of being angry with her its not really satisfying, while it makes the scene a bit more "alive" but it never goes far enough Liara either doesnt react to it or barks back a few lines and goes back to normal.
I dont know how the writers see it but I have a different definition of a rocky relationship

I always interpret Liara reacting to Shepard's anger like that as her being desperate to open up to Shepard, to tell her everything that's happened and that she still loves and cares about her. But, Liara is terrified Shepard will hate her, so that's why she's reluctant to open up and tell Shepard about what has happened. When Shepard gets angry at Liara and shouts at her, Liara is so incredibly frustrated that she can't just show her love, that she can't tell Shepard about everything that's happened, due to her fear that Shepard will hate her for handing over the corpse to Cerberus. So she remains distant. And when Shepard shouts at Liara or gets angry at her, Liara cannot be angry back at her because she loves her, and doesn't want to hurt her by arguing back. The couple of times that Liara does bark back a few lines is more born out of frustration at herself, than any anger at Shepard.

It's so sad, because you get the feeling throughout Liara's scenes that she is so desperate to open up to Shepard, to show her some love, but can't due to her fear and guilt. It makes me feel so confident that we'll be able to comfort and console Liara in her DLC, and she'll be able to open up to Shepard and reveal all of her pain, and that we can rekindle the romance and vow to never leave Liara alone again. Cue a loving embrace between the two.

Well stiil it feels as they started writing the conversation in one direction but never finished it,for example take the beginning of her second quest Shepard gets the option to protest against helping her to murder someone, the result she barks at you stats that she will kill all 5 suspects if Shepard doesnt help her and Shepard gets nothing and just seemingly goes along.
That was a perfect opportunity for many things,I still dont believe at least a paragon would just sit there an doesnt say anything about that, even a renegade might get annoyed and just say something like why she just doesnt kill all of them instead of wasting his/her time by hacking terminals.
This could have gone down so many directions maybe enable Shepard to dig deeper in her situation instead of hiding this away, hell they could even used that for a breakup if they wanted with Shepard announcing he/she wont help Liara going down that path.

As for Shepards indifference thats not exclusive to the Liara scene,s/he is indifferent about his/her own death or how project Lazazrus worked in the first place,I mean I would at least be curious what kind of technology they implanted me with,or the fact that you never can bring up the whole stuff Cerberus did,but just have to stand there when Kelly says they're the bestest organisation ever.
Same with Miranda yes you can mention the experiments and stuff, but she rationalizes them away, you can never counter that or anything, which raises the question why does she even quit Cerberus in the paragon ending, you never make even a dent in her loyality to them

As far as I know, there's no difference whatsoever between a female or a male Shepard as far as the romance in ME 1 is concerned, not in the dialogue between Shepard and Liara anyway. In ME 2, curiously enough, Liara seems to whisper something to a female Shepard before the kiss, which is not there with a male Shepard. Hmm... Do we have any explanation for that yet?

Oh I agree with you entirely, Noxis. The whole reunion with Liara and the dialogue options make it all feel like a horrible unfinished mess. I believe the reason for this though is BW's reluctance to spoil Redemption, and trying have it so that Liara remains guilty, sad and tormented so that they can take it into her DLC, and have the proper reunion and deep emotional conversations with her there. Therefore, they had one hand tied behind their back with regards to what they could do with Liara's ME2, and the horrible unfinished mess is what we're left with.

One thing I'd like to ask you about is what happens when you refuse to do her Observer quest, as you brought up. Now, I always agree to what she asks me to do, so I've never seen the dialogue in question. But is that what Liara says? That she'll kill all 5 suspects? It's not like she's trying blackmail Shepard, is it? For me, I'd say they've got Liara saying that for the benefit of the player, to illustrate just what Liara is prepared to do in order to find the Shadow Broker, rather than saying it to Shepard. It's not like she's going "Help me, or I'll kill 5 different people. How would that feel on your conscience?" but rather, like she's saying "The only other alternative is to kill 5 people, something I'm not prepared to do. Please don't make me have to do this." I for one would never imagine Liara attempting to blackmail Shepard like that.

Of course, it could be my theory that I posted about before manifesting itself again. When Shepard shouts back at her, ignorant of what's happened to Liara, her suffering and what is truly going on, Liara gets frustrated with herself that she can't open up properly to Shepard out of fear that Shep will hate her, and briefly gets angry with herself and shouts back. It's something I'd imagine Liara would regret deeply, shouting back at the person she loves, and I'd imagine that she hates seeing said lover so frustrated and angry at her. Because of her love for Shepard and how much she cares about what he/she thinks of her, she has to remain distant out of fear Shep will hate her. It's sad, and really does make you want to have Shep tell her that you don't hate her at all, that you love her, and attempt to calm and console her. Hopefully that will be possible in the Liara DLC!

Well I sure hope youre expectations for a potential Liara DLC turn out to be more then just wishful thinking, for my part I will believe it when I see it,but I have doubts and Bioware so far didnt do a great job to diminish them.

As for the Observer quest well yes,she pretty much says she will kill all of them,of course she throws something in like the deserved it I dont remember the exact lines right now something like "nothing to lose sleep about"
I guess you can interprete that in your way if you want but to me it sounded kind of like "Help me or kill them all" whether you can attribute that to her pain or determination to find the SB is debatable I guess,to me it illustrates that she is going down a dangerous path,as revenge is always a dangerous road to take, many things can happen you might push people away that want to help you, hurt some that are innocent etc.
But in any case no matter how you see her line about the 5 suspects, theres just no excuse for Shepard doing nothing if you take his/her perspective Shepard at this point has no idea what Liara did, frankly I think Shepard either has to wonder if Liara just went nuts or if s/he picked the wrong office.
With Shepard its also something thats never really brought up,yes two years have past but not for Shepard, for Shepard it was just getting blown up and waking up on a space station in the next moment, the only time that is touched upon is suprisingly in the Jacob romance.

Surely that would mean that Male Shep's voice sucks as well.

Hale most assuredly does not sound like a man.  She sounds like a mature woman and conveys they authority and compassion of a commanding officer which is absent from Male Shep.  She would only sound like a man if your only frame of reference for female voices is the Dead of Alive series.
