Once the SB has gone, Liara has absolutely no motivation anymore for working as an information broker.

As soon as that disappears, she's back on the Normandy again with Shepard, as she says she wants to.

Hopefully she'll be in Shepard's cabin. :D

They sure have some catching up to do

true true.
as for Liara being in Shep's cabin-i have no doubt @ all that it will happen for sure.
look-does everyone of us have a second desk if it is never to be used? NO.
that desk must have a purpose-like everything in life
and that desk's purpose is to be Liara's desk.

Liara might find a distaste for the violence that is sometimes necessary in the information field but she also had to face this as an archeologist....violence was necessary at times against pirates and merch bands.

Different kinds of violence, though. As an archaeologist, it was self defense against criminals. As an information broker, it'd be strong-arming and threatening mainly innocent clients, something that completely goes against Liara's morals and principals. I don't think Liara would ever harm innocent people, she'd just threaten them like that, and secretly regretably. It's why she absolutely hates the job, she has to pretend to be someone she's clearly not.

I still hope for a squadmate status in ME3 though, also because I cant really see how the SBs network is of any help against the reapers,an enemy that doesnt store its intel on terminals on random planets, doesnt plan its next attack in some nightclub and most important you cant infiltrate at all.
The SBs databanks would  maybe help ,but thats something Liara can do on board the Normandy,if she really insists on not coming along in ME3 well I guess she can always try hiding under her desk from the reapers then:kissing:

You are right about the Reapers, but information will still be needed and useful to Shepard in ME3 since the purpose in the finale will probably be to unite the galaxy to take on the Reapers.  Having certain info could give Shepard a key edge when negotiating with, say, the quarians and trying to convice them to ally with Shepard.

I agree Liara could do this stuff on the Normandy...it's not clear why she couldn't do her work on the Normandy in ME2

Hmmm, interesting point, but isn't that extremely contrived and really poor storytelling? Why have Liara act completely out of character for the benefit of the narrative? I think BW are much better storytellers and writers than that, even if ME2 suggests otherwise. Liara would tell Shepard, and if she doesn't due to not revealing spoilers then that is extremely crappy writing.

I think the writers were focused more on other characters in ME2 and not much on Liara, and this might have killed the quality of her characterization a bit.  Her story has been rewritten and we know it's been hacked down from what was originally planned.   They might have just said, 'Screw it!  We'll deal with Liara in the comic and ME3!' and didn't much care for filling in all the plot details in ME2 or making sure every aspect of her characterization made sense.

Yep, I agree entirely that Liara's scenes in ME2 were hacked to pieces, but I think it's more because BW didn't want to spoil Redemption, and wanted to maintain the status quo between Liara and Shepard so that it can be dealt with in the Liara DLC, where we'll finally receive her full ME2 role and finally be able to console her, and rekindle the romance.

Basically, BW had one hand tied behind their backs in making her reunion scenes, due to avoiding spoilers for Redemption and because they need Liara to remain tormented and guilty leading into her DLC.

I just wonder how 'innocent' all these clients of hers are.  Normal people usually don't pay large sums of money for information they are not going to use or act on in some way.  I would wager most that seek out an information broker do so with ignoble intentions for that information.

I would hope that Liara wouldn't harm an innocent, let's say a woman who comes to her looking for help locating her long-lost mother.  I would hope she would provide this information for free, as she did with Shepard regarding the location of Samara and Thane.

I agree with Liara not being able to work from the Normandy was quite a poor excuse, since Miranda who at least according to the I-pod game,it was I-pod right,is a well connected person can manage her contacts from the Ship and even Thane could stay in touch with his.

As for giving out information on the races, well I guess that will depend on how its done as anything else,as I interprete the last scene of ME2 Shepard seems to have solid evidence of the reapers existence now, that shoul rally the council behind him/her,of course we can never be sure given the Turians councilers awesome powers of dismisal.
As for the other races not sure Quarians seems to be Talis job,the Geth well maybe Legion,Krogan I guess Wrex,of course if they are all dead Liara might be the way to go.

But I guess we all can agree again on that being something done from abourd the Normandy again,I not really for pushing her into an TIM kind of role since we already have enough characters to fill out such a position,TIM being one of them unless he did of Lungcancer by the time ME3 hits of course

I actually think this is extremely plausible, and that Liara only earns her income from her criminal and unsavoury clients. I could see her giving out information to innocent clients for absolutely nothing. Notice how when she gives Shepard information in ME2, she doesn't say "This would've have cost you 500 credits!" like Barla Von did in ME1.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's Liara's MO as an information broker. She's very compassionate remember, and would certainly help out innocent clients with noble intentions for absolutely nothing. She probably earns her wage from the criminals and the nasty, horrible people.

Me too, J. I hope it provides plenty of insight into Liara's situation in ME2, and shows us what's really going on. I think there's more to Liara than meets the eye in ME2, and I think she's being used and manipulated by TIM.

Let's try this again (first time posting went super crazy and ended up about a mile long).
I just thought I'd give you guys an extract from the latest chapter of the fanfic in my sig that I'm working on. I love feedback, so feel free to comment on anything at all (even if you think it's rubbish). Anyway, here it is (it helps to know that at the moment, Liara is in a coma and trapped within her own head); this takes place during ME 1:

*************

The words took a few numb seconds to sink in.

Dying.

She was dying.

How was that even possible?

"I..." Liara struggled; voice box straining to force sounds from her constricted throat "I...Oh Goddess, I can't...not yet, there's still so much for me to say...she wouldn't...she has to know...this can't be happening!"

"I am sorry." the synthetic replied, the sentiment falling flat when spoken so emotionlessly "But do not give in to despair just yet. There may still be a way to set things right."

Withdrawing a data pad from some interior pocket and consulting it, the mysterious man read aloud.

"Lucy Shepard; captain of the SSV Normandy."

He paused, staring intently at the display for several seconds.

"That is correct is it not? You have found her?"

"I did..." Liara whispered, her stilted words reverberating against the growing lump in her throat "But by the time I realised how much I...it was too late."

Feeling tears ****** at her eyes, she let her head hang limply.

"She fell in love with someone...and it wasn't me."

After long seconds of silence, Liara felt a stiff, metallic hand rest of her shoulder. The sensation was a contradiction. It was the same feeling she got when on a dig; a sense of great inner peacefulness tainted by the thought that she was making a career out of another species tragedy. As with all emotions, it was impossible to rationalize how she felt, or attribute it to any particular evidence. Something about this mysterious figure made her nervous. Then again, the thought of talking to Lucy had always had a similar effect. It was impossible to be sure if her instincts were true.

Remembering those little conversations they'd shared brought a smile to Liara's lips. The fact that Lucy's words could bring some small measure of happiness to her, even at this moment of overwhelming sorrow was proof enough that her love for the spectre remained undiminished...even when the chance of seeing her again was rapidly approaching zero.

"You are distressed." The synthetic stated, "You feel that you have failed...that you are to die without your life ever having true meaning. You fear that no one, not even the woman who means so much to you, will mourn your passing."

It took Liara nearly a minute to muster the will to reply.

"Yes," she said at last, her voice heavy with defeat "I...I'm so s-scared. Please...I can't let it end like this....without her.""

"You don't have to."

The stranger backed away, leaving a few paces between himself and the tearful Asari.

"Come, let me show you."

*************

Pretty grim stuff. Don't worry though, it's not as bad for Liara as it actually seems. Rest assured, her and Shepard will end up together like they always should do.
I started writing this story long before ME 1, however, by a happy (or in Liara's case, unhappy) coincidence, the character she's conversing with here is actually someone she's destined to have quite a few 'dealings' with. And if that isn't a big enough hint, I don't know what is.
I've got another fanfic in the works, one which is a simple, pure, Liara/FemShep (sorry DudeShep's out there) story. I have yet to decide which bit would make a good preview for it however, and this post is already far too long, so I'll stick that up later.
