If we had been given other f/f romance in the game, I still would have went with Liara as my main Shep's love interest.  With my "non-canon" Sheps I might have tried out the other ones but Kathryn Shepard's forever love is Liara T'Soni. <3

True that, as I've been saying a lot for some odd reason.

I like Tali and Ashley more than a lot of people on this thread -- though both of them have a distressing lack of open-mindedness about certain species, yet I can't blame either of them per se, and truth be told they both work with members of the species that they're beyond wary of without a problem.  (Except for a pretty justifiable ish with Legion after his mission.)  Still, Liara is my favorite first-game squaddie.  She's the perfect blend of geeky and confident, not to mention those eyes ....<3:wub:... *sighs dreamily*

As for the second game ... Hmm.   We're not evaluating the male options, so it's between Samara, Miranda, Jack ... with Tali already covered above and Kelly already an option.  (One that I'd take, actually, just not over Liara.  And what the heck is going on with her not triggering a Paramour achievement, when I'm certain that it should count as cheating and romancing?  Still, she seems to be a very loving person, not just in the sarcastic sense, either.)

Among the unavailable ones ... well, I really don't think I'm drawn to any of them.  (Though Miri has been growing on me a tad.  Still, her facial model is way too close to the Uncanny Valley to not be distracting, and Yvonne... needed the direction she got in her loyalty mission for all of her lines... still, her story for some reason reminds me a lot of Bastilla's, which seems to be the source of what attraction I have ...)

So for my money, :wub:Liara:wub: wins outright.  With Kelly a close second, and Tali a closer third.

They only get the child thing from the fact that by Asari standards she's "barely a teenager". It's like saying that no matter what, being a teenager makes you immature. Despite what others may think, not all young people are immature.

Yeah, and that comment is qualified by two circumstances.  She says she's "barely more than a child" by asari standards.  And since Shepard doesn't live for 1000 years it doesn't have any relevance.  It's just like a lot of older humans consider humans in their late teens or early twenties to fall into that designation just by virtue of life experience.
Liara is 106 years old, has at least one Doctorate, and has been pursuing Prothean archaeology for longer than humanity has even known Protheans existed.  Which ties into the second qualifier, that in her chosen field of Prothean archaeology, which is very much an exclusive insular professional field, someone with 50 years of experience isn't going to be accorded the same respect as someone with 500+ years.  Which is the context in which she brings that line up.
So I just tend to assume that anyone who thinks she is a child didn't pay any attention and doesn't put a lot of thought into things, but has no problem with sharing their misunderstandings with others (annoyingly).  Most of them seem to dislike her to begin with anyway, so they'd latch onto anything not matter the context or qualifiers.

Spot on. Unfortunately more and more people don't read between the lines and don't pay attention or put a lot of thought into things like you mentioned. If some people were willing to take the time to read between the lines and really start to delve into Liara's character they'd find she's easily one of the best in the series.

This is actually a more interesting question.  I've always found Ash generally repugnant, and I don't think anyone who fits the Liarasexual profile much cares for her either.

Liara vs Jack vs Tali as F/F interests on the other hand....hrrrm.  Tali always gives me kind of a little sister vibe, and Jack only works in certain perspectives, but I'd probably do a playthrough with one of them.

You know, I've never thought of it in that way before. In a way, it's similar to Shepard's reaction to a romanced Ashley or Kaidan on Horizon. When Ash or Kai bring up that fact that Shepard never tried to contact them, Shepard says that he/she "Didn't want to reopen old wounds", ie is concerned for their emotional wellbeing.

In this case, Liara wouldn't want Shepard to get too intimate with her during the reunion because she knows that Shepard has an extremely dangerous mission to focus on, one in which he/she will have to be in absolute top physical condition to survive. Therefore, Liara wouldn't want Shepard worrying about her, for fear that it would distract Shepard from the mission and possibly end up with he/she losing her life. It's another manifestation of Liara's caring, considerate and compassionate nature, her ultimate desire to see the person she loves safe, and secure. Extremely heartwarming, and tragic in a way in that Liara has to act distant from the person she loves, precisley because she loves said person so much, and would never want to see Shepard get hurt again. Add all of this on top of her fear that Shepard will hate her, and it makes sense.

You know JP, I'm really enjoying delving into Liara's character like this. It's so insightful, and enlightening. Makes me love her even more.

Looks like Feros to me, when Liara asks Shepard if she's okay after Shiala transfers the Cipher into your mind.

Awww, Liara. Her concern for Shepard's wellbeing at that part is just .

Yep, she never lies to you or tries to trick you.  Never tries to call in favors or anything like that.  If she can't tell you something, then she tells you that she can't.  Everything she does tell you though is the truth.  If she wanted to be dishonest or manipulative it would have been so very easy for her to do that.  Especially considering how gullible and non-confrontational ME2 Shepard is.  You can only do those two missions for her by Shepard asking themselves if there is anything they can do to help her.  It just seems hypocritical to complain about what she needs help with when you're the one who asked if there was anything you could to do to help in the first place.

I think she tries to keep some distance, even from her lover, in that encounter because she already knows what is going to happen in the end. That the Normandy is going to be leaving with Shepard on it, but she is going to still be at her desk Image IPB

*puts on tinfoil hat*

We dont know that,we just assume that shes hones with Shepard, given Biowares newfound obsession with darkness I dont really trust the writers

*takes of tin foil hat*

Tbh I'm not a fan of Liaras new role an it has nothing to do with gender,I just think there were other ways to show of her determination and skill then making her a criminal, face it thats what she is atm,you may justify with thats what she needs to do to take out the SB but this doesnt change the bottom line.

As for her keeping her distance, might be the case, but as if it is then again the game does a bad job of showing that to the player,I could understand it since the collectors are an strange advanced alien race at least to the few people that know them and most of galaxy thinks they are a myth.
As for the whole thing with a "dark" path well, her job is not about smiles and sunshine, her clients are not all friendly people,in the worst case even slavers and pirates, innocents might suffer because of what she sells them,of course thats speculation but we never know.
And I think we can agree Liara carries quite an amount of hate and anger towards the SB,thats always a dangerous thing because these emotions can blind you, look at Garrus he ended up in a pretty bad situation because of his hate of injustice, now I dont want to say Liara will start shooting criminals randomly, but she carries certain dangers with her,the SB might exploit them or not is to be seen.
Even if you dont shove in the Reapers into the SBs story arc he is a very dangerous enemy and I'm curious if the last comic will shed some light on why he didnt kill Liara by now, when hes seemingly quite fast at taking people out that mess with him

I noticed that each time when Lili is whit my Shep in party (and that's mean always) when Shep is in BIG troubles she shout warnings not Ash and thats made me always smile.^_^

*Sigh...* Honestly i start to wonder why fans can write great stories involved all ME characters when so called 'lead writer" was not able to create plausible explanation for each romance option... but i think main blame for that should go on EA and thier "vision" of ME2 as wanabeRPG/Shooter.<_<

On the other hand it's really start to made me sad how much "bad press" Liara "collect" on this forum just because that baka Walters made from her NeoBenezia character when she is not her mother at all... and heck not even Benezia was a Sith Lord but just missguided by Sovieregin tragic personality.:(
I still can't forget that last scenes in labs on Noveria where Benezia (who known if not whit help of the Queen) for a brief moment regain her senses and her words" You always made me proud Liara" were final affirmation of her deep love for Lili... God how i missed there any sort of opportunity to hug Lili or show any form of care for her:crying:.
But i think at time when Drew wrote ME scenario nobody in Bioware suspect how big impact Lili will create within game community.
But i am too tired to even participate in debates like "Liara is evil" because i known that arguing whit Lili's haters is on the same level as arguing whit ultra stubborn donkey on the cross roads.:pinched:

Sheesh... Lets hope that after redemption 4 release Bioware will introduce Liara DLC which will put at end this whole issue but one thing i want to point.
As much as i keep myself out of those hate threads here in this particular thread i won't tolerate anyone who will try to smear our blue angel... and that's serious warning.:police:

Who known maybe one day we will get Mass Effect improvement pack ( upgraded graphic, adding some extra features like Para/Reneg interruptions, (maybe ME 2 was test field to see how those interruptions will work in game enviroment?) and some more improvements) but i known that this is more wishfull thinking that more possible Lili's DLC.:wizard:

On the side note... i really wish i can write in english so good to write actual fiction, bit since english is not my main language writing such complex stuff is still for a while not possible for me...

And here is Lili's reaction on my post.^_^

I can't stand it. They probably just thought the casual gamers would find it "cool", and pulled an explanation out of their hats, just like with the sudden appearance of ammo. The scars in ME 1 were perfect (would only have liked more choices), but they had to go for this new "feature". Typical ME 2 change. <_<

I think anyone who claims that "Liara is evil now" can easily be derided, as they have not really analysed her character, her motivations, her emotions and her suffering in ME2. If you don't read between the lines regarding Liara's situation during the events of ME2, they you're going to misunderstand her. But we know better!

Anyway, I'm currently exploring the Artemis Tau cluster, tooling around in the Mako with my beautiful Liara and Garrus. Just killed Dahlia Dantius, so I'm heading back to the Citadel soon. I love having Liara at my side!

I liked the red eyes but the messed up face was just weird. I thought it sucked that none of Shep's squaddies made a comment on her changing appearance throughout the game. I played one of my non-canon Sheps who was formally Paragon turned Renegade in ME2. It would have been nice to see Liara touch Shep's Renegade face and ask, "What did they do to you?"

Yep. Another deep, emotionally engaging moment that was completely passed over. How touching would it have been to have Liara show real concern for Shepard's plight after she opens up? There really were so many missed opportunities regarding Liara's scenes in ME2. /sigh:mellow:

and for Paragon Pure Shep it could look like this:
Liara comes to Shep and says "We will be together very soon my love"...*DEEP kiss*

Yes the scars are ridicules and the reason behind them and there "expending" quality's are even more ridicules, unfortunately this is apparently what we will get from BW in the future. Dark and edgy and very mature... no not really.

PS: I miss my ME1 scare :(

There's so many good ideas thrown around here. I hope some of the Bioware staff have had a chance to look at our thread and see that we want more engaging/immersive dialogue and actions. If anything, I'm pretty sure they've heard that there are some not so happy Liara fans out there. lol Give us some dlc. Please??

Very true. And the same is true, by the way, for Ashley in ME 1. There seem to be a lof of people who can't be bothered trying to understand her character either. And that, even though it's much easier to make sense of Ash in ME 1, than it is to make any sense of Liara's scene in ME 2.

I'm extremely confident that the upcoming Liara DLC will have us able to comfort Liara, help ease her pain and emotional torment, tell her not to be guilty and that we love her, and rekindle the romance and have a proper emotional reconciliation, in which Liara will open her heart. It's so frustrating how we're artificially prevented from doing this in ME2. I hate seeing Liara suffer!

Nice, I really liked that EH. Liara's concern for what had happened to Shepard, and her guilt and blaming herself for it was sad, and very touching. Good work!
