Yeah, I find it odd that they decided to tell us "you will be rewarded for staying faithful", and then hitting the reset button afterwards. It's messed up.

May have been planned that way, but it's obvious that ME 2 was very different than what may have been planned originally. And as always, you can't take anything for granted that the PR machine spits out.

Maybe some of you will re-think purchasing this last issue? Remember, voting with the wallet is the only thing that has any chance of impressing anyone at EA. I haven't purchased Awakening, will not buy Kasumi either, even though the reviews sound more positive than I'd thought. I doubt they'll draw the correct conclusions from it, but still.

We're not talking about a romance with Feron so much as some rather shoddy decisions, it seems.

Part of me still sees ways they can write themselves out of this hole, but it depends on if they do that or not or if this is merely just a way to "even the playing field" for ME 2 players.

There has been enough coddling of new ME2 goers. They should really work on fixing the ME1 characters and putting more RPG back into the ME universe.

It will be the ultimate lameness if ME 3 players who never played the first game get to romance Liara with the same outcome as ME 1 players who put up with being treated like a mere acquaintance.

I commented on this development in the discussion thread over in the Liara group. Don't want to bore you with details, but the comic didn't surprise me.

I think screwoffreg hit the nail on the head with his opinion regarding the romance options in ME3

I think in ME 3 we will see almost a "re-romance" option for our ME 1 LI's. A getting to know them again sort of thing.

I haven't played DA:O fully yet. I'm
working on it. This Leliana sounds like a parallel. It's like it's the
new BioWare thing to do or something.

Well, Leliana
doesn't appear in the Awakening Add-On. (like most other former
squaddies). Just one sentence in the epilog. It's just an AddOn so, imo,
its difficult to compare to Liara.
But Lelianan is by far my most
favorite Character in DAO, much like Liara in ME.

And thanks for the happy pic, justin. Just what i needed.

The crux of what's upsetting people is that Liara isn't disclosing her full motives for hunting the SB at the end of Redemption. It's misleading.

Look at it logically people. Look at how much she obviously still cares deeply for Shepard in the ME2 reunion. Look at how she doesn't even like Feron throughout Redemption.

It's just an incredibly sh!t way they handled Liara 's compassion, and appreciating Feron's sacrifice. They way they've depicted it means it's been completely misconstrued.

That said, I think I'm just about done with this series. After this current session on here, I may not come back. I don't know, I've had enough.

I have calmed a bit, as I am sure most have. I think we are so disappointed because Liara fans got the worst treatment of all the old ME 1 decisions.

Wrex has a warm welcome, Conrad Verner was funny, hell Ashley and Kaiden admit they almost killed themselves over your loss and at least open up the lines of communication again for the future. Liara was...well, pretty cold. I could see if the Shadow Broker killed her father or Cerberus was manipulating her why she acted the way she did. It just seems like a petty vendetta though...

I guess the Shadow Broker DLC will reveal some more things, but honestly I am not even interested at all in saving Feron or really killing the SB. He did what we expected him to do, try to make money. Big deal, he's a jerk. Shepard has dealt with a lot of jerks.

This will happen, if Liara is a romance option at all. Better accept it. We might get a few additional sentences at best. If the council decision from ME 1 doesn't matter in ME 2, nothing ever will. BioWare/EA would call it efficient time management and distribution.

DAO is different in that they atleast give you the snippit at the end where you can see what happened through your choices in the summary thing, Leliana stays with the Warden in it depending on your choice, riding off into the sunset sort of thing,

I was curious to know how the Redemption comic would turn out, and it turned out pretty much how I expected it would. I've never read a comic based on a television show or game that was good. Either it has decent writing and a horrible artist. Or it has a decent artist and horrible writing. Or both are horrible.

The problem is that the events of the comic become canon to Liara's character. It'll be referenced in the wikis. People will bring up elements of the comic during debates. I could try to ignore it, but it's out there. Even if I ignored it and continued with my own interpretation of who Liara is, people will keep pointing out why my interpreation is wrong because of what was in the comic.

Such is the danger of asking for more than what the main story gives you. They can give you more, but it's not going to be what you're expecting. Sometimes that's good. This time it's bad.

Well, we still have DLC to look forward to I am sure.  E3 is around the corner and it looks like by this time next year we will be playing an Expansion with ME 3 not being far off.  A lot of ME content and stuff to play and its still a great game.  Just for fans of this particular character it sucks, but oh well.

DA 2/Expansion next year as well, so we'll see how that turns out.  I have high hopes.

Well, think of it like this.  They obviously see Liara as an important enough character to merit a comic and a potential DLC featurette.  They want to ensure ME 3 players get to enjoy her as well.  If nothing else, I think she will get one of the better endings, we just have to endure some crap for now in return for something later.

Bioware is usually pretty good about giving the OPTION of happy endings and how to get there.  In Baldurs Gate II, one of the romances breaks up with you right before the end of the game.  A year later, in the expansion, she comes back to you and its a pretty sweet ending (Viconia).

Liara is worried about Shepard hating her, but not about Cerberus, it's about Feron.

What we see as grief, sadness, worry, fear, loneliness, could just as easily be about Feron, and not Shepard.

Liara could be worried about Feron, she doesn't give up everything to be with Shepard again, when he/she walks back into her life. She has nothing keeping her on Illium but herself and this need to find Feron.

Liara doesn't want Shepard's help when it is offered, because she doesn't want Shepard to learn about Feron, because she fears Shepard will hate her for it. With good reason.

She basically lies to us, and makes us think it was all about Shepard, but now we know, Shepard was an afterthought at this point.

Yeah, it would be SB DLC and not Liara DLC. Go figure. Is the xpac being considered or is that an actual thing to look forward to?

I'm totally pissed though justin. People are abandoning and slagging off Liara's character now because of the sh!t writing in the comic, and because she doesn't fully explain all of her motives at the end.

Need I remind everyone that she even says that she's hunting the SB because of Shepard in ME2?

It's just that the comic has been badly mis-scripted. ME2 shows that Liara still deeply loves Shepard, and only appreciates Feron's sacrifice, not Feron himself.

But because they had Liara say the wrong thing at the end, and didn't script it properly, all of this has happened.

I don't think I'm going to be able to take this forum. There's a good chance I'm gone. I don't know, I'll see how I feel later.

Don't give up folks. It took sloppy writing to get us here and it make take a few logical leaps in ME 3 but I imagine you'll get your happy reunion, though the rewards for being "loyal" may be few and far between it will still be a pay off.

Think of it like this, if Square made ME 2 they would have gotten Liara killed by a bad guy with long hair and a giant sword.  Image IPB
