ME 2 was a pretty big departure and stand alone, as the founders of Bioware said they wanted it to be. I hope they don't try the same in ME 3 to appeal to new players...



It would be like Return of the King introduced new characters instead of Frodo, Sam, etc as they didn't want to confuse those who couldn't figure out "hey this is a trilogy, better see the other movies/books"

I'm inclined to think that the Shadow Broker "talking" through that Collector was just the Collector General relaying information he'd gotten from the Shadow Broker to one of his minions. They're all networked together with those implants and the Collector General can see through them at will, coordinate and send information, or take direct control.

As far as ME3 squadmates are concerned, I think it'll be a whole new crew.  Everybody, with the exception of Liara, is potentially dead.  The amount of work it would entail to bring all of those characters back is unimaginable.

Then we'd have to have Shepard tell Shiala that he/she is more interested in making babies with her mentor's daughter...

There is enough of Shepard to go around for all, I say.

The woman/man has been dead for two years after all...making up for lost time.

I think its likely to be old faces on the crew, mostly, but smaller and tighter maybe.  There are only a few crew members from ME 2 that could conceivably return anyway, as most say they are only with you for "the mission" at hand.

Miranda is for sure (she is notoriously hard to get killed and plot critical), Jacob, and I think Grunt (you need a Krogan and Wrex is wrapped up).  Other than that, most everyone else could find a reason to leave.  Also, it wouldn't be unheard of for Bioware to do work for a smaller number of characters even IF you never see them because they died.  Look at Dragon Age Origins..all the work into the characters but you could kick them all out.

I still don't get this part (as I haven't seen the comic).  What happens?  Can anyone describe this frame?

Yeah, that was always an interaction that was missed in ME1 that always stood out for me.  They both should have something to say to one another, and Liara should most definitely not be pleased if Renegade Shepard makes Shiala get down on her knees for that bullet to the head.
ME1 does have a ton of specific instance stuff though, so it was just a minor annoyance.

Back on track, that thread locking couldn't have been a good sign. Was the thread civil or were they locking it because of a flame war?

They locked it because they knew what a poor job theyd done with the ME1 LIs in ME2 and wanted to shut us up.

Seriously, its not far from the truth.

Priestly basically said "Weve told you they arent important to ME2, so I dont see why you need to discuss it".

Its one of the major turning points thats led me to the level of contempt I currently hold for Bioware.

Don't worry.  They will.

That would suck.  How do you have a trilogy and reset the game every time?  I guess they should start over the ME 2 romances as well then.  Wait to see the anger in the Tali thread when she mysteriously forgets she was in love with Shepard.

See, I'm different in that respect, ratz. I'm supremely confident that we'll have Liara and the surviving Alliance soldier back on the squad for ME3. It's just gut instinct, they've kept them out of the squad in ME2 for the reason being that they wanted them to survive for ME3. Plus, Liara being unkillable and there being a guarantee that we'll have either one of Ashley or Kaidan in ME3 suggests to me that they'll play an important plot role, and the only real conceiveable way in which that were to happen were if they were squadmates, as they're the characters that receive the most time, care and attention with regards to development.

I don't know how you'd develop a romance without them in your squad.  I guess if they pull a Lady Arwen with Liara and she constantly yearns for you from afar only to return at the end, but that would seem rather...lame for a video game.
