I know you would say that.
Because it's the truth.

I think they also made her an information broker because being a shy archaeologist wasn't "dark and edgy" enough. So they amped it up Conrad Verner style, living on the edge and so forth.

What do you all think Liara will do after this whole mess is over? Will she continue on the Information Broker path, possibly gaining political power to rival the power her mother once had? Or, will she return to her geeky archaeological ways?
We know she enjoys the latter career but do we think there are aspects of the former she also likes?

Nope, she'll go with Shepard as she expresses desire to in ME2, when she regretfully says that she can't come, and she won't continue on in a job she clearly hates.
J, you're not looking at Liara's ME2 scenes properly, or listening to what she's saying. You're letting this pessimism and frustration get the better of you.

I prefer to look at them through my 'glasses of pessimism' and not get my hopes up.

It's something like that. Also, you have to remember that her sole motivation for working as an information broker is to end the Shadow Broker. Nyxeris even tells you that Liara has forgone any further power or influence. As soon as the SB has been ended or Liara is comforted by Shep, she's giving up the information business.

No, your "glasses of pessimism" are causing you to ignore facts and dialogue presented in-game.

I hope she doesn't become a squad member.
Personally I rather see her become a major quest arc in ME3. She went from the sweet and naive girl in ME1 to a Information Broker extorting people who is out for revenge on the Shadow Broker in ME2. The path is simple.

Hold the line against the greatest threat the Galaxy has ever seen? Shepard needs a new asari biotic as Samara clearly is leaving as she says so many times...

I had to accept that Liara had become an information broker, because it was the best means to get close to the Shadow Broker. But I'm afraid it's going to send her down a dark path unless something or someone can remind her why she loved archeology in the first place. Just because we know how the Protheans were eliminated doesn't mean there aren't more secrets to be found.
Maybe if ME3 had some ancient artifact that needed to be found, that would be perfect for Liara's archeological knowledge. Not necessarily Prothean, but from some civilization that suffered the Reaper extinction. The Reapers have been doing their thing for a long time. I'm sure some civilizations tried to fight back.

I hope so. In the old dialogue she seems content with taking the crown for herself...
I steer clear of helping her information business. Fighting a war is dirty enough for my Paragon Shepards without getting steeped in the same business I kill people for. Liara in ME 2 is a sad, sad case.\\\\
