OK, I'm replaying ME1. So when Liara first tells you that she interested in you for more than research she says it's odd. The way she says it is odd is strange. It made it appear that she wasn't just talking about how little you actually know each other or that you are human. It seems like she is drawn to you for some other reason--that I don't think is her ability to meld/join with you. It almost had a feeling of reincarnation or something.

Anyone else know what I'm talking about?

Do you mean the whole soulmates idea? That they've met before in past lives and will meet again in future lives?

I think...maybe. It was strange. Having not played ME1 in a bit and hearing it again for the first time just made it...different.

Its so weird going back to ME1 and seeing the sweet, innocent, nerdy Liara my Shepard fell in love with...so far on my ME1 replay I just rescued her from Therum and talked to her.

Yea, I played it again recently. It reminded me why I love her character.
She really is very empathic, and kind-hearted.

Her compassion and empathy is one of the most endearing aspects of Liara's character. She even feels sympathy for Saren when you find out about indoctrination and Sovereign's true nature. If I remember correctly, she really feels sad for the colonists at Zhu's Hope on Feros, too.

I really need to play ME1 again. I want more Liara!

As for DLC, they can solve a lot of the issues I have with the character if it's done well. I think that if she was the love interest, the relationship definitely has to come up and be a major conversation. However, I really hope they don't keep the idea that she can't join the Normandy since she has to read. That's pretty lame since it would be much for efficient to do so on the Normandy with EDI and Legion to help. Now, if Shepard encouraged her to stay on Ilium to help his/her cause, I could see it - but it would be important to illustrate she'd rather come along (especially in the love interest case).
It will really depend on whether they completely replace the missions as they stand with other ones, or if the DLC is meant to be postgame content. It makes more sense for it to be postgame really, because any reasons for her not joining the Normandy once the Shadow Broker is gone will probably seem incredibly contrived.

Well I dont have placed my hopes to high for a potential DLC Biowares record so far doesnt give me the feeling that we willl get something compelling,I would be happy if proven wrong here.
DLC has its limits as to how far it can go,you always have to bear in mind not everyone will get it and choosing a default ending for those who didnt get it has its problems exspecially if they continue going along with taking the renegade outcome for everything as a default.
I agree though that setting her to "I have to read"mode in a DLC would be totally lame,as you said EDI is basicly a thousand times faster with this, was also exactly my thought when I looked at the cut material.
As for replacing what we have now,I doubt that,it would be to much work to do this if there is a DLC it will just add to what we already have.
I also agree that if it should deal with the Shadow Broker it should take place after the Collector base, personally I would prefer dealing with it in a expansion pack that bridges ME2 and ME3 at its earliest.
But I still stand with that killing the Shadow Broker off in a DLC might cheapen him,I mean the way he is introduced in ME,gives you the impression that he is one of the biggest and most influencial criminals of the galaxy.
So unless that is somewhat retconned or he went braindead in between the first two games like the council,I just dont see him go down that easily,I still imagine him having the upper hand in the duel with Liara even with the real Observer dead.
Actually I expect him to strike now, that he cannot derail her anymore from getting closer to him.

I actually didn't realize how fond of her character I was until I ran into her in ME2.  The first time I played through, I finished getting called a traitor on Horizon and headed to Illium first thing and as soon as I heard Liara was there I sprinted straight to her office.  At which point....

1)  I got greeted with a weird standoffish kiss, that wasn't half as good as the one I got from Gianna Parisini.
2)  She acts ice cold towards me and has me run around Illiums hacking terminals for her.
3)  I find out her secretary is a spy and run back to her office to find out if she's okay and once I discover she's alright I naturally ask her if there's any more I can do to help her at which point she says no and never says anything new to me again.

When I finished this chain of events I turned off my 360 and spent the next day feeling thoroughly depressed about being slighted by a video game character.  So because Bioware programmed in an investigate question which instantly ended the conversation I spent the day being depressed and I stayed that way until someone told me to replay that part and choose the other investigate option which at least partly explains to you why she's being so damned cold.  So I did and when she said I gave you to Cerberus because "I couldn't let you go", it snapped me out of my funk and I realized just how attached I had gotten to her character in ME1.

Welcome to the club Posted Image

It's hard not to get attached to Liara, BW did a great job making her special in ME1 just wish they had done that in ME2 aswell.
I miss my LiaraPosted Image

I actually spend some thought on Liara's motivation for hating the Shadow Broker that much recently, and maybe the reason she hates him/her/them that much is cause he/she/they started the mess she now finds herself in. I mean, in the beginning of ME 2, you're send to outer space, and shortly after arrival, you're attacked by a Collector's ship. Feels like a trap for me.

Maybe it was the SB who laid this trap for the Collector's to get and capture/kill Shepard? And now Liara rightly blames the SB for not only trying to sell Shepard's body, but also for hunting and trying to kill Shepard and moreover, for thereby ruining her life she cherished by his/her/their actions as her new found life onboard the Normandy was over after the attack.

That could explain some of her hatred and partly icy personality. The downside if this idea is, of course, is why didn't she simply tell you, but then again, BioWare didn't let her talk that much emotionally important in ME 2 at all.

I'm kind of divided when it comes to Joker he is cool, but he so totally got Shepard killed in the beginning. EDI my get a little cranky as well and I don't feel like fighting my own ship, hope Cerberus installed a off switch :P

I'm more angry with The Illusive Man manipulating Liara in the comics, and then flat out lying about her in ME2 and telling me not to trust her!

It felt good to tell him to shut up at the end!

Yeah, I was pretty upset and down myself when I first spoke to Liara in ME2. Annoyed that Shepard couldn't show her any love either. But when I found that hard-to-miss dialogue I felt so much better again. I had a suspicion that it had something to do with Redemption, but when Liara finally opened up and almost burst into tears when explaining what happened, and her guilt and fear that Shepard would hate her I just wanted to hug my TV screen. Hope we get a chance to hug her in the DLC!

Here is the prologue if you will of a story I may continue once the comics are done and it does not take away from my current series of books. Let me know what you think.

Been thinking about what I would want to get out of the Liara expansion and what format it should be in.  Originally I thought it should all be post Suicide Mission and allow Liara to join the crew and have a big "take down the SB" plot.

Lately though I've been thinking differently.  I've tried really hard to like ME2, I keep making characters then deleting them trying to find some magic combination that is going to let me enjoy the game.  I finally realized it just isn't going to happen, without Liara in it I just have no compelling reason to play the game.

So I was thinking, the expansion should have a mixture of elements in it that include both adding more content to the main story section of the game as well as post suicide mission content.

My thought is to add 3 to 4 new scenes to the main game.  Short encounters where we get to see Liara on Illium.  The first one should replace the existing "reunion".  This should be a fairly intense reunion starting off much the same way as the current one but quickly escalating into a "fight" between them.  Harsh words are spoken by each side with Shep eventually storming out of the office.  No missions or anything are given at this time.

Shortly after you get an email from Liara asking you to return, apologizing for the fight (not her actions).  You go back and see her and she is a little less volatile, Shep should have dialogue that is softer as well and here you get the hacking missions and take out the observer.  Afterwards there is still some tension but a more "accepting" feeling between both of them of the current situation, with Liara basically leaving you with the impression the relationship is over as she has more important matters now.

A third encounter later in the game Liara has used the information you gained to learn something about the SB and asks for your help.  You come back, do a medium length mission to go retrieve some data, etc. that will help her track the SB's location.  After completing this one is where you can finally break through and get the currently hard to find missing dialogue, only extended with appropriate dialogue from both Shep and Liara.  Liara would at least tell you how she really feels and if you are LI's a chance for both of you to express that.

Then off you go to the suicide mission.

Once you come back from that you get another invitation from Liara to come back and now you get into the meat of the expansion and a long story arc covering taking down the SB, "freeing" Liara from her current emotional troubles, and finally getting some appropriate romance related content and dialogue throughout.

The first three encounters wouldn't need to be long, but enough to work that "troubled second act of the romance" into the game and actually give me a reason to play through the whole game. ;)
