I can't wait for the DLC either!

And Eddie, I can send you a bit of my optimism and I think the rest of us can do that, too. Then you'll write something beautiful again and through reading that our optimism rises higher than it was before we gave it to you.
How about that? Do we have a deal? ;-)

I'll accept your optimism with waiting anticipation ^_^

The acknowledgement of the Liara romance is heartening indeed!

Who here can't wait until the DLC where we'll be able to fully rekindle the romance with Liara?

Well, yes me too, but unless there's also a scenario for players can rekindle their romance with the Virmire Survivor, I don't think Bioware are gonna do it. As it is now, with the crappiness of the last issue of Redemption (which I was fully expecting when I first started reading it), Liara and the Virmire Survivor stand on equal terms romance-wise. And I think Bioware are going to do their best to keep it that way. Because frankly, if Bioware were to release DLC with Liara-romance-exclusive content, it would be an incredible smurf to the other ME1 Love Interests and their fans. Heck, they already feel smurffed by virtue of the fact that Kasumi makes reference to all the LIs except for the Virmire Survivor.

And one thing that people --sometimes even me-- seem to be forgetting: Romance content in Liara DLC, or Liara DLC at all, is not an absolute given!

Liara DLC in general is highly likely, but a highly expansive piece of DLC with romance-exclusive content is not a set-in-stone fact. I hate to be the downer, but it's just true! And I hate seeing someone- anyone setting themselves up for disappointment.

Image IPB

Liara hates seeing her fans setting themselves up for disappointment.

Now this isn't me saying we shouldn't think Bioware have any sort of thing planned for Liara DLC, I just don't think we should make these automatic assumtions that there will be a long, unique romance related scene with soul-searching and being able to rekindle the romance.

I suppose a reason to be doubtful of any sort of rekindling of the romance in Mass Effect 2 would be the fact that it would step on any sort of reward that Bioware have for people who stay loyal to their Love Interest.

Unless the reward happens to be getting five hundred extra credits when you run into your LI again. Image IPB

Indigo, I get what you're sayig, but who's to say that there won't be DLC featuring Ash and Kaidan at a later date?

I'd agree with you on the other point, if there was any exclusive romance content with Liara in ME2. The fact that there isn't, and we're artificially prevented from comforting Liara as a lover, leads me to believe that, as I've said before, that they're maintaining the status quo of Liara being emotionally tormented and wracked with guilt, and the pair of them unsure on what the other thinks of them. The fact that a Liara who obviously cares very deeply opens her heart, reveals everything she's done for Shepard, and the pain that's caused, and that we're artificially prevented from following up on that indicates to me that the status quo is being maintained in a contrived way, and that their intention is for us to rekindle the romance, and have the deep, emotional and intimate content tackled in the Liara DLC. Looking at the way Liara has been written, with all of her suffering and pain she's endured, based around her love for Shepard, it would feel extremely unnatural if there isn't deep, emotional dialogue with Liara, with additional lines and a scene if she's your LI. Liara, who is suffering badly and loves Shepard deeply, needs comforting and the romance rekindled.

I don't recommend anyone going through the Illium meetings with Liara on a frame to frame bases....no wonder I've been putting this off....*sigh*

But! If the DLC is 'The Shadow Broker DLC', you can't really escape her inclusion, as long as she isn't the sole purpose of the DLC. If it's what people believe it is, Liara or Shepard find the Shadow Broker and together they go take him/her/it down, there won't be much room for epic love anyway, except at the end. Maybe afterwards they do release something for Virmire survivors. But it's been said already, none of it can really effect ME3 or greatly effect ME2, because DLC is all a matter of choice.

But that still leaves the issue of whatever content that may be in Liara DLC stepping on the reward in Mass Effect 3 for staying loyal. If you resolve your issues in the Liara DLC, then what's left for Mass Effect 3? Unless there's a new issue that comes up in ME3, in classic "one thing after another" fashion, which I don't think would sit right for a lot of people.

I suppose it's just irritating to know that people waited for two years to get... nothing. And now you have to wait two more years on chance and the word of Bioware.

oh sure, as a whole yes, but in order to impart the feelings or emotions the creator of the scenes desires, you have to put in art that goes from one expression to another to give it the overall feeling of the moment, some of these are ... sad

The sad part of this, I feel, is that we are most likely going to be forced to a 3 year (about) wait for the Liara interaction we so desperately want and need. I do hope they put out some DLC that gives us the chance to say the things we wanted, but I just don't see that happening until ME3. As Indigo has mentioned, they planned on some type of reward for staying true to your LI from ME1, that would sort of get really broken if they let us resolve our hearts desires i a ME2 DLC. I hate this as much as anyone else here who are as madly in love with Liara as I am, and as painfull as it is to think about, reality's fridgid slap is always looming before our faces.

I've been hoping that the 'leaked' files that mention Liara don't have so much to do with the kind of DLC that we've seen so far (I'll take anything for more Liara time at this point though!) but the expansion bioware has talked about releasing sometime before ME3. I believe it was sort of described as a bridge between ME2 and ME3. Having a chance to rekindle the romances with the ME1 LIs could fit into that nicely. Then in ME3 you could stay true or ruin it.

I don't know why people are so worried about them dropping the romance all together. They said that we were going to be rewarded for staying faithful. I don't think we'll see anything substantial in DLC, but I think we'll see something substantial in ME3.

EDIT - Basically what Sunnie said.

On a more positive note..
For some reason I feel compelled to say something, so here it goes.

I couldn't find a better group to hang out with on these forums, than you folks here. The Liara fans here are so full of care, compassion, love, hope, creativity and inteligence. It feels like you all have accepted me into the fold and it gives me a warm snuggly feeling. Thank you!Image IPB

I'd like to echo Sunnie's sentiments.  Even though I spend the majority of my time in private groups these days, I greatly enjoy reading the activity here.  Liara couldn't ask for a better fanbase.  You folks are awesome!  *hugz*

Yes, welcome aboard Sunnie ;-)

@ratz, same here. I also spent most of my time here in private groups - as you know ^^ - but it's also nice to read the discussions here and participate. Liara definately has great fans who enjoy discussing things and speculate about her. There are also some great fanfics out there, so the devotion is definately there, too ;-)

Yep.

EDIT: I don't think it will be three years, though.  Probably the  Dec of 2011/ Jan, Feb or March of 2012.  At the most 2 years.

Maybe a substantial rekindling was wrong phrasing on my part. What I'm thinking of is Liara coming up to Shep's cabin on the Normandy on the way back from Liara's DLC mission, and Liara basically opening her heart about everything that's happened, her suffering, her pain, her guilt, everything she's done due to her love for Shep. We'll finally have the ability to comfort and console her, to tell her she's loved, and vow to never leave her alone again. Cue Shep and Liara finally embracing each other warmly, with a single tear trickiling down Liara's cheek.

That way, it's not sunshine and happiness again anymore, the relationship is still somewhat troubled as they've spent two years apart from each other, but it's at least something to show how much love is still there for each other, and finally gives us the ability to comfort Liara.

With the way Liara has been written, and her emotions, guilt and love for Shep, how unnatural and forced will it be if there isn't deep, emotiona content with her?

I heard somewhere that they plan to have it out in about 1.5 - 2 years. They already have a lot of reusable stuff in the areas of programming and the game's engine. They mainly have to work out the story and do all the graphical stuff, so it won't take quite so long this time around.
