Back again. Now reading the comics, and finished book 3. I agree with what a lot of people are saying in that, after reading the comics, it seems Liara's revenge motive for not going with Shepard is extremely lame. I expected her to go through hell, and experience some very dark moments, but compared to what she and Shepard went threw in MS1, so far, this is nothing. I get that she left Feron behind in order to save Shepard, and she wants to save him... but I'm also finding it hard to believe that, after all this, she'd turn into a cold-blooded, murdering information broker in order to kill the Shadow Broker, find out why the Collector's wanted Shepard's body, and save Feron (who's most likely dead by MS2). Also, the Liara that I'm reading in the comic is a complete 180 to who she was 2 months before Shepard died. She's supposed to be a shy scientist, but 2 months after the Normandy is destroyed, she's a childish commando with anger issues... and then turns into a cold-hearted, murdering information broker 2 years later... (skakes head). You know, a part of me wishes she did have a relationship with Feron, just so I can understand why she's doing what she's doing in MS2. Hell, what I thought happened seems better then what I got...
All I wanted was a good reason why she is the way she is...
did not know that the 3rd book was out yet

It is. I also read the comments here before getting it. And my hopes for finding a reasonable explanation for her behavior were crushed. It sucks.<_<Srslydude01 wrote...
I'm still waiting to get the comic myself, but it seems you all are rather disappointed with it. That doesn't really bode well. I'll never lose my optimism for Liara and her story, but I do hope the comic isn't a real let down.

But the comic did explain her behavior in the reunion. How they did it wasn't very clear unless you break down the actual reunion.mrbeavis19 wrote...

Idk, all they did was give a name to the "friend" she mentions in the game IMO. There wasn't sufficient new knowledge that could only be attained from the comics, just panel after panel of Liara beating the **** out of mercs. Which in itself is just wrong. As TMA LIVE said above, "Also, the Liara that I'm reading in the comic is a complete 180 to who she was 2 months before Shepard died. I know the comic seems strange at first glance, but think about it, Liara meant at the end of the comic that she didn't want Shepard to come back as a monster mentally and/or physically.mrbeavis19 wrote...

Liara's head shake after she kisses Shepard and her lack of loving emotions for Shepard makes perfect sense after this. Liara believes that the woman she loved is gone forever and the Shepard now is not the woman she fell in love with.
This will probaby be a conversation in the DLC as well.
Liara's personality change from the cute, shy scientist was caused by the enormous grief and emotional torment she went through after Shepard died.
Remember, Liara watched her only love die right in front of her and there was nothing she could do to save her. After that she focused all of her grief and emotional pain on the SB, that is on reason why she kills so many people in the comic, she is focusing all of her hurt and anger on everyone else. People who go through similar situations in RL can do the same thing.
In the reunion, it made it worse because she believes Shepard is not the woman she loves, this only added to her grief.
BioWare has to have major emotional conversations in the DLC about all of this, why would they put it in their own game then ignore it?

I know its kinda corny, but whenever i think of music for liara and shepard, i always come back to nickleback's far away, especially the "keep breathing" lines in relation to shepard's death

No sense in debating what could have been. Stories will go through multiple revisions before getting published, just ask any writer. So I would not worry too much about it.revan11exile wrote...
Say guys i was just looking at an old post saying that Liara and Legion were the first characters we were suppose to have at the beginning of Mass Effect 2.That is probably the friend Liara was looking for but BioWare cut that part from the game.(OPINIONS ANYONE)

I'd say that Liara is no longer a shy scientist by the end of ME1. I think it's pretty clear she's not the girl you met on Therum by the time of the final battle on the Citadel. She was nearly killed by Geth, met Shepard, watched her mother go nuts and then die, learned of the impending doom galactic civilization, watch a teammate die, went on a crazy adventure leading to a near suicidal battle.
The moment shy Liara is gone is the love scene, she practically jumps on the Commander's body because she realizes they may all die and that she doesn't have hundreds of years to poke around . Liara becomes an active instigator rather than a passive observer (as an archaeologist is). It makes sense to me that her short time with Shepard caused this change considering all that she went through. Shepard's just a few months later just further reinforces it, by reminding her that life is short even for an asari. That part of her character change doesn't bother me.
I also think that many younger asari have these issues with anger/violence. Look at how many of them become mercs. I bet most of them settle down eventually. Liara evidently thought she wouldn't go through these typical asari phases. She definitely speaks with an upper class voice. Her soft tones and perfect diction are a mark of refinement. Perhaps she sees the violence of many asari youth as beneath her. From her dialogue in ME1 we know that she saw stripping and the consort as beneath her. Now that she's dealing with it, its fair to say her fate is up in the air both from an ingame and meta-textual context.
Now on both counts, it's only natural that Shepard will help her resolve this (for good or for ill) because ingame Shepard launched Liara on this path, and in the meta-textual context because Bioware writers have chosen to make her so essential in saving Shepard's body and thus enabling the eventual showdown with the reapers.
