Those ME 1 love scenes are the best in video gaming history (not that there would be many rivals in the first place). So much better than in ME 2. Not because of the lack of clothes, though it can't be denied that this does make it more realistic. But because they're so beautifully and tastefully done. You can feel the emotion between the characters, they are "alive". With all that great and realistic 3D technology, that's still very hard to accomplish. It's the best thing you can achieve as developer, and BioWare did.
The scenes in DA in comparison are quite simplistic and "direct", hence the ridiculous clothes BioWare slapped on. In ME 2 at least they're going for a better, more artistic approach. Yet the execution once more can't hold water to ME 1. Not because of the obvious caving in to the ME 1 media campaign. You can implement the essential message of such a scene well with the characters wearing clothes too. But that wasn't really tried, it would require a different approach to writing and directing it. As it is, it all feels more tacked-on, much less natural. I've said it in other context, but it really sums it up: ME 1 was a great Hollywood movie. ME 2 is a good TV series.
To stay at least a little on topic: I rather have no love scene with Liara in ME 2, than a bad one. Not that it would be the most important part of the whole romance thing in video games anway.
