scmadsen, what was wrong a little earlier? You seemed a little peeved with the thread for some reason. Just think of Liara and everything will be fine.

I really loved Mass Effect 2, but it disappointed me of how much of a minor role that 4 of Shepard's old squadmates had. Most notable being with Liara. In ME3 however, her role will be more important as her role was in ME1. Truly, I think Liara is THE best romance option, because Shepard rescues her from a Prothean dig site, had her tag along to stop her mother Benezia, and during Shepard's 2 year death, she retrieves his body to bring back. Of course, as seen in Mass Effect 2, her darker personality (which is of course nothing but a facade through a certain dialog option) shows that she went through hell to help recover Shepard's body, but because I still love Liara, I chose the option telling her she did the right thing. I can't think of any greater romance plot than that. And I'm sure that in Mass Effect 3, we'll return the favor for her helping to save Shepard.

well really as much as we moan bioware have pushed her to the top of non player characters if you look at the comics they could have easily had ash or kadian in the comic but no it was liara for me the main 2 characters of mass effect are shepard and liara

Very true, my friend. The Shepard/Liara romance story has the potential to be extremely deep, moving and generally epic.

I just hope BioWare follows through with it...

I wonder how anyone could choose a different answer. Just think about it: Without Liara, Shepard would be no more. Fact. And, importantly: That would also render ALL other romances impossible from the start. So they all have to thank her, and might have to wonder what their LIs did for them.

Without taking away anything away from the other characters, I really think her romance is the best and deepest by far. It is BioWare's best effort after the Jaheira romance from BG 2. Only that one was better developed and involved (even though you could not initiate talks with LIs back then, but that has been repaired by good mods).

I think yelling at Liara like that after she opens up, and reveals everything she's done for you and all the suffering she's endured because she loves you, really reveals Shepard to be a heartless, unfeeling mercenary who only looks for self-gain in whatever he or she does. Liara's sacrifices are pretty damn powerful, and she asks for absolutely nothing in return. She holds nothing over your head whatsoever.

QFT. If it weren't for Liara, Shepard wouldn't even have the chance to be a jerk and cheat on her with a new love interest.
