Oh wow, I just walked to the other side of Liara's desk in her office on Ilium. Strangely, after our last conversation I found a holo-vid tablet that was interactable. It was weird....it showed a holo of me (Shephard obviously) when I played it, and the dialogue was:

"Liara, I'm usually one that speaks better with actions than words, but I have to say a few things that needed to be said...to clear the air I suppose (I guess you understand what clearing the air means).  I couldn't say much when I was surrounded by my comrades, my fiends. I should have met you alone, I know, but the truth is I was anxious and a little scared...of how two years had affected ...us.  Then you were going on about your "friend", and I kind of lost it-- a little jealousy creeped in, and I just wanted to get away. Then you had these things you needed me to do, so  I did them because it helped. When I'm busy I don't think about things so much....or deeply. "

cough*

"Then you told me you were the one that found my broken body. You told me you couldn't let me go....me. I'm just a grunt from a slum. Sure, everyone thinks all these crazy mythological things about me now, but I dunno. I still feel like that kid struggling to survive-- to find my way in life. I still remember like it was an instant ago when you told me you had never been so sure of anything in your life. Well, that was like a month ago for me. Liara, I've never been more sure of anything else either. But, when we parted you gave me some stupid credits, and went back to work on some crazy quest for vengeance. I was wondering....feeling guilty, I wondered if I did that. Did I do that to my beautiful , blue goddess. The woman I placed my faith and hope for the future on? "

Cough...cough*

" I think maybe I did. Maybe I changed you from the sweet, excitable, and noble girl of my dreams. Did  I Liara, did loving me hurt you that much? Do you love me still?  I have to do this thing for Cerberus now, Liara, but I need you to know that we have to talk. When this is over I'm coming back and I'm helping you, or snapping you out of it. I need to find out if what we had...what we have...can it be saved? I need to save it, and I need to hold on to it. I atleast need to find the truth...the whole truth. What happened over these two years? Can I ease your pain? Can you let me help? Do you love me enough still...to let me help? All I know is that I love you. I know I'm gonna go kick some Collector ass, and then I'm coming for you. Coming back home...you feel like home to me...where I belong. I love you Dr. T'Soni."

End vid....

It really shocked me when I saw and heard it....anyone else get this?

*Just joking, of course, ahhhhhh but what could and should have been ...it boggles the mind.

Its funny how people cant wrap their head around the concept of Liara being over a century old. There is no BS rationalising of a younger age that makes Shepard a "pedo", Liara is close to 4x Shepards age.

Yes, the asari treat other asari around that age as still young, but it doesnt change the fact that they are still physically and mentally as mature as any adult.

Liara has been on her own for decades and was better than all her older peers at her line of work. She clearly isnt anything close to a "teenager" in anything other than pathetic trolling attempts by dumbasses. Shes a mature adult, which is more than can be said for some.

Ah yes the infamous argument about Liaras age,I remember it was quite lets say "popular" on the old forums,I even recall a thread were someone claimed by using obscure mathematics that Liara was actually just 10 years old in human terms which is complete idiocy of course

Personally I would see Liara as in her early 20s,but in general I dont know if its wise trying to force the human life cycle on an alien species, since its well alien

I think the math was something like" Since asari live for 1000 years and humans live for 100, every hundred asari years would be 10 human years"

Hehe!

vigna, as I'm not a total gullible sucker my reactions to reading your post was thus:

:mellow::huh:<_<<_<<_<<_<<_<:pinched::o:O:lol::?:unsure::crying:

Yeah, something deep like that would've been perfect. Liara pours her heart out to you that she's doing all this for you, that she saved your life, that she "couldn't let you go", that she's afraid you'll hate her. And what does Shepard do?

Prattles on about the mission. Moron! Give your lover a hug!!

That it right there.

I dont know if people realise this, but the entire point of aliens in science fiction is that, ya know, they arent human. Yes there are often similarities and whatnot, but from a cultural and biological point, there is just no comparison.

But to be honest, its such an easy trolling point to shoot down, I think were actually giving it far more attention than it deserves.

I'm arguing with a guy about how he thinks all of the items listed on the "Why Liara Did All of Those Things for Shepard" picture are wrong or contribute nothing to our understanding of Liara, and that he thinks that Liara has moved on.

From listening to what Liara says on Illium, how can anyone contrive that Liara has moved on?

york, I wouldn't bother with this berk. It's about as constructive and pointless as arguing with the wall. Just let this person swim in their own delusions and fantasies.

Have you got that image, by the way? I never saved it to my hard drive and I really want to now!

Truth be told..it has been two years. She may have moved on in her head....as she says just this in redemption 4. But, has she moved on in her heart? I doubt it highly.

A letter from her would be such a simple thing, no voice recording required, but it would make a lot of a difference. They did write themselves into a corner by letting us visit her office at all time. It would of course be very odd if suddenly you receive a nice letter, but still can't say anything about it. At least it allows us to get some better screenshots.

He claims that we're the delusional ones because we fail to see the truth of the matter.  He claims that we're extracting false, self-serving information from plain facts because we want to believe Liara still has an interest in a Shepard who romanced her.

Anyway, here's the image:

We've discussed this before. It's easy to misunderstand just what Liara's saying in Redemption. She's actually expressing worry that due to the fact that Shepard's body is so badly damaged, Cerberus will revive her as some zombie monstrosity. It's also an example that Liara is lying to herself that she's doing it for Shepard's sake, as she said she did in ME2. "I told myself I was doing it for you, for a chance to bring you back." Liara is lying to herself that she's doing it for Shepard, not her own desire to see Shepard rebuilt. She's attempting to soothe her own guilty conscience.

Think about it. If Liara really did want Cerberus to leave Shepard alone, do you not think she would've attacked Miranda and those scientists, and ran away with Shepard herself? The fact that Liara still leaves Shepard to be worked on and to be revived speaks volumes.

Nah, what the comic was trying to convey was the start of Liara's guilt for handing over the body to Cerberus, for her own desire to see Shepard rebuilt and brought back to life. They just did it in an incredibly clumsy and badly scripted way.

I was really disgusted with the way they were trying to sell Liaras cameo at the end of redemption.

Miranda constantly making a point of "You go do something YOU want to do, and whatever you do, make sure it keeps you out of the events of the upcoming game when Shepard is alive again".

Theres no point in rationising Liaras cameo role.

I called it before the game was even out, its an excuse, nothing more. At best an excuse to save her for ME3, at worst an excuse to remove a key character from the rest of the trilogy so Bioware has less work to do.

Thanks york. I like the second one with alot more detail more, mainly because of that last bit of information. The fact that Liara has been haunted by guilt for what she's done and that she's terrified Shepard will hate her shows just how much she cares and loves Shep, and how much Shepard still means to her.

Right, but I still think we agree her head and heart are at odds. I think we are just differening on the reasoning for it.

Then why did she pull away from me? :crying:  Why?!

It's the only thing I don't understand... she wouldn't even talk about it... even after I assurred her I didn't blame her or think she was selfish, Bioware wouldn't let me go back and discuss it with her...

Oh, and I've never read them, but I heard from a lot of people that her claiming Feron was her friend was inconsistent with the actual comics? That they really didn't give the impression Feron and her were friends at all?

I think it's pretty much established that Liara pulled away due to the aforementioned fear that Shepard will hate her. Plus, we learn from ME1 that Liara only shows physically intimacy to Shepard when she's absolutely sure of their love for each other, they trust each other, and that Liara is completely comfortable with herself, with Shepard and their love. Obviously, this isn't the case in ME2. Physical intimacy means alot to Liara, and the fact that she kisses Shepard at all is testament to how much he/she means to her.

Regarding Feron, hell if I know. The comic pretty much rams it down our throats over the course of 4 issues that Liara doesn't like Feron at all on a personal level, and only appreciates his sacrifice. Her hunt to discover Feron's fate is because she appreciates his sacrifice, and not because of him as a person. Hell, in #4 Liara even says that she wants to kill Feron.

I think the term "friend" was used for convenience and simplicity's sake. What other term could they have Liara used without it sounding disjointed or odd?

She says she wants to kill him, but she isnt really serious.

They arent BFF or anything, but it clearly means a lot to her that ultimately the help Feron offers to save what little is left of Shepard was vital. It also affects her that he gets left to the mercy of the weird looking salarian thug and the shadow broker while she escapes with Shepards remains.

The only problem is, because of the nature of the **** cameo, shes almost taking a "one thing at a time approach". Its like "Sorry Shepard, I saved you, but now I have just got to continue this single minded crusade against the SB before we can actually display any kind of relationship again".

Thats why the hypothetical DLC is so important to some folks. They hope it will actually show "wait a minute, Liara CAN actually display her affection for Shepard AND care about saving Feron and stopping the SB. The two arent mutually exclusive. If anything the two should go hand in hand".

Sadly, like I said, making up an excuse to remove her was paramount. Not actually doing whats best for her character and the fans desire to see her in Mass Effect games.

i suppose it's just a cover up for "rocky part" of relationship and nothing more.
it's like a hook to hang a story onto it , and it's looking awful they should know it. we know it

The Liara I know would continue investigating Reapers/Protheans to make sure Shepard didn't die in vain.

I don't know, we get this weird monologue from Feron that explains that, were it not for TIM's insistence, Feron would have led Liara on a wild goose chase before abandoning her and going off to find Shepard himself. He triple crossed her, and then was willing to mess up her own goal of saving Shepard for his own personal goals. Shows how much Liara meant to him. He couldn't give a flying one about her, to be honest.

The whole fourth issue was weird, anyway. Aside from the aforementioned large monologue, you have like 2 pages dedicated to Liara handing over the carcass to Cerberus. This should have got alot more attention, as we know from ME2 how much of a deeply traumatic and disturbing decision and event that was for Liara. Her resulting guilt and fear that Shepard will hate her has been the chief motive for her hunting the SB, she says as much in ME2.

The comic was just badly scripted and had extremely poor presentation. It's why so many of us have got so pissed at it. It revealed nothing, it told us nothing.
