I don't know about you, but I replay ME 1 for the amazing story. So what if the combat in ME 2 works better (in my opinion that's not even true, but nevermind that now). In the end you always kill the bad guys and move on. Once you've mastered it, neither game provides much of a challenge in that regard, and shooting stuff isn't a huge deciding factor in replayability anyway. It's the story, the choices, the interactions with other characters, the beautiful romances that made me love and replay ME 1 so much. The game has lost nothing of that, no current game can match or even beat it until today. Certainly not ME 2, though you may of course disagree.
.
I agree.

Yep, after 1 play through I don't scan planets anymore, I just grant myself 500k of each at the beginning and done./uploads_user/1070000/1069890/28013.gifbjdbwea wrote...
By the way, I for one don't scan planets anyway. I rather press a few buttons in the save game editor instead of in the game.

If we were able to use the Hammerhead like the Mako, on actual planetary exploration, that would be cool. Instead the Hammerhead gets super mario style levels where you jump for joy. I'm surprised you didn't jump into ? blocks for resources.
Had they done the same exploration in ME1 to ME2 just switched the Mako with the Hammerhead, (and added some better armor and shields<_<) It would have been great, IMO.

Well I have it for 360, and dont like modding the game.
That's perhaps the main problem then. On PC, many complaints I read - saving, controls, Mako, inventory management - are simply not an issue. Whereas ME 2 took a huge step back in that regard too and forces console style controls on us. <_< But of course we shouldn't start a platform debate in this thread.

I agree, there's enough threads out there to post in if you want to go that route. This is the Liara thread anyway, we should be talking about Liara DLC and not the Hammerhead anyway

If you have a half way decent PC, you are almost always going to get a better game experience. ME 360 vs PC version as a perfect example. Additionally, a lot of pay for DLC on XBL is often included in the PC versions which are generally $10 cheaper too.justinnstuff wrote...
Damn you and your PC versions! I really should look into buying them so I can take screen caps (for use on future projects) instead of relying on what I can find. I already bought the games for xbox though and I don't want to spend the extra money.
So:
better game/graphics, -$10
adding in extra content, still -$10
ability to mod the game, -still -$10
Knowing you will be happier with the whole experience, priceless!

ME2 seems better for 360 for controls, but I have yet to try the pc version.

All of this was sadly lacking in ME2, ditched in favour of shooter combat. To me, ME1 is such a better game.

I could never do a default ME2 Shep run.
I tried the default run because I wanted a playthrough where the choices and decisions made were completely different from any of my playthroughs. Also, I thought I'd be interesting after I heard John Davison talk about playing it, to see the story "Bioware" wanted new players to play. But in the end, playing it felt like I was "playing a character" that made choices I had no control over, and a history that wasn't mine. It didn't feel like I was playing "me" or my character. More like I possessed someone. The game also felt stripped of content, because default never did side missions. It was so lonely and depressing. I actually missed the emails.
As for the auto save. I'm not used to saving all the time, unless I'm playing Resident Evil, Silent Hill, or Final Fantasy, where a save spot means "should save now unless you don't think you need to." With Mass Effect 1, one mistake sometimes means replaying 30 minutes or more.

ME1's main problem for me was the sidequest repetition and the 90 degree angles when driving to Mako >.<
Of course you can ignore much of that if you're only after the story. You can't really ignore planet scanning in ME 2. And if we're talking about side quests, what's better - steering the Mako through difficult terrain and shooting stuff in cookie cutter levels, or following a Mech through an empty level and pushing a button three times to insert a new battery?
Sure you can ignore planet scanning. If you import an ME1 shep and already beat ME2 at least once, you'll get enough minerals for starter upgrades. If your entire squad is loyal, you can surive the suicide mission (with the right choices of course) with nobody dying. You don't have to scan a single planet. It's only necessary for your first playthrough.
Plus, go to the Micah system in the Vallhallan Threshold, and scan the three hidden planets, and you'll have enough minerals to upgrade everything.
