There aren't many video game writers like Mr David Gaider anymore. He still responds to posts in the forum and in the old days he made new content, for free, for the games he was part of. I think some people see writing as just a 9-5 while others love the universes they create.
This isn't a criticism of anyone, by the way. Just a reality.

EDIT:
I think Bioware should FIRST finish ME trilogy whit one team and ONE and the same for ALL three parts lead writer and then start SW ToR which is to be honest pretty heavy risk for Bioware because there is no guarantee that they will succeed.
MMO community can be much harsher when comes to critic customer base than this forum.
But that's subject or completely diffrent forum anyway.

I remember his "work" on Throne of Bhaal. Almost seems like a different company back then. Probably was.
Different industry too. Its amazing how much less I care about games than I used to. Its also amazing how much less game developers care about gamers like me. In the days of the Wii Fit casual crowd, I guess the idea is to lower the bar of quality and extend the net of mass appeal as far as it will go.

Normally I'm not a pessimist but I totally agree with everything you said. Especially the Wii Fit casual crowd, because that just reminds me of everybody I know.

Speaking of fanart, I wonder when MDK's next Liara pic will be finished. He posted a WIP version of a picture of Freya and Liara dancing together, but that was a while ago. I wonder if it's almost finished.
Where is this? I don't see it in his Deviant art gallery. Thanks.

God, don't get me started on Nintendo and their shovelware on the Wii and DS. Ninty will always have their main series that will always be great, like Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Smash Bros. etc. But there's so much crap on the Wii. Where's the Kid Icarus remake? Why won't they release Mother 3 in Western territories? When will be get a proper new StarFox title?
The industry ain't what it used to be. Too many shooters, too much shovelware, not much creativity anymore.
But alas, this is off topic. More Liara!

Id love to think all the criticism of ME2 being a dumbed down shooter is being taken to heart for ME3, but I somehow doubt it will, and ME3 will have significant development time devoted to yet more shooter pandering.
At this stage I wouldnt be surprised if they tried to shoehorn multiplayer into ME3 to appeal to even more shooter fans.
I fear you may be right. But that could be a mistake. Because let's face it, even if you treat ME 2 as a shooter, the game isn't really top notch. Mediocre controls, repetitive combat, stupid AI. Completely linear levels that you just run through from shooting range to shooting range? Been outdated ten years ago, at least on PC. I wonder how they got away with it and received so stellar reviews, but I guess on consoles it's still state of the art. But anyway, there are companies who have been producing real shooters for years. If they drive the RPG fans away, and if the shooter fans stick with the real shooters, who are they going to sell their games to? I think they rely on the rest of the industry producing even more shallow and useless games for the mass market, so that the RPG fans have no alternatives anyway, and in that assumption of course they're unfortunately pretty much correct.

He posted a WIP version of Freya and Liara dancing together, and then a few days ago created a poll in which he said that he's drawn several different poses for the two of them, and wanted to know if people wanted them on the same page or a few individual pieces. People voted for the latter.
So, we're going to get several new pieces of Liara fanart from MDK!

Gaider isn't untouchable either. His posts about the conversation system in Awakenings are quite despairing. Although he does deserve credit for interacting with fans unlike the ME2 writers who have gone into their little hidey hole since release.

I doubt they care as they get universal praise from critics who play the game for a week, write theireview and never play the game again. These are of course the people who know ME the most and therefore matter the most.

Oh I know, Ive said before: who on earth wouldnt trust video game journalists who get paid to review games (and there is a well know controversy about games not being scored "high enough")? I mean, what kind of madman would place the views of those who actually went out and bought the game with their own paychecks above those that reviewed it to recieve their paychecks?
Youd certainly have to be something other than a greedy moneygrubber to ignore all the arse kissing and ridiculous "perfect scores" and be accept that the game not only has glaring flaws and shortcomings, but also that turned its back on a lot of core players who have been with this series since ME1.

I'm kinda curious to watch and see what kind of impact all this is going to have on the retail success of ME3.
Lets face it, ME2 didn't sell so many copies because of 10/10 reviews, its success was born from the fantastic game that was ME1.
Will the poor showing in the sequel negatively impact ME3 sales? I dunno, I'd be cautious to say it will as they continue to shift their target audience, but I also wouldn't be surprised to see ME3 sell less copies in the long run than ME2.
In the end that is the only thing would serve as a proper wake up call for BW since they obviously don't pay much attention to fan feedback in regards to negative receptions about story and characters. This forum, and negative threads in general, especially story related ones, are all but ignored for the most part.

Like I've said before though, hopefully because BW now seem satisfied with their shooter combat now, they'll dedicated more development time, care and attention to crafting a great story, atmosphere and characters, and giving us some proper Liara content.

I'd say the sale figures will be around the same because people are 2/3 of the way through the game and they want to see how the thing ends now matter how badly, even me. So BioWare have us by the nacichos there.
But take into consideration:
1) ME2 still has not outsold Mass Effect (and probably won't) despite EA marketing the hell out of it. So how many "casual" or "newcomers" did ME2 actually attract?
2) ME2 sold more than half its total sales in its first week. That points to a) a hugely eager fanbase and

Nah, I'm pretty confident that we'll get deep, substantial Liara content in ME3. She's going to be in everyone's ME3 save game, guaranteed, and I'm therefore inclined to believe that she'll be the character that receives the greatest amount of time, care and attention in terms of development. I think they have something big planned for Liara, and that she'll have a large story role in ME3.

I do not despair too much. On the whole Bioware is one of the better companies. Remember we operate in a for profit atmosphere and development costs these days are astronomical. In years past, to write good dialogue all you needed was notepad and a programmer to cut and paste it in...

Damn... i start to be tempting to actually buy Witcher 2 (as much as i am not to great fan of books whit Whitcher stories and never played in first part what in case of W2 won't be actually necessary) and see how they will show whole story.
