I just ordered the comics, so I'll be reading them shortly...at least I hope it won't be too long.

I disliked "I couldn't let you go" intensely and it seems she's more philosophical in Redemption.

Oh yeah? <_< From what I've seen and heard, there's nothing philosophical about it. Why would you not like what she says in the game? It's obviously her honest feelings. Just remember, if Liara hadn't done for your Shepard what apparently no one else was able or willing to do, he would never have met Miranda either. Fact. But don't take it the wrong way, from all the ME 2 LIs Miranda is by far my favourite too.

No offense meant. It's just I wasn't romancing Liara the first time I heard that bit of dialogue, so it can off as odd. I appreciate what she did, but I think it would have been extremely helpful on several levels to reserve that particular line to romanced Liara.

That line feels fine to me as is...they were really good freinds. I believe its safe to say that Liara knew Shepard better than all the other squad mates due to the Meld.

The quote makes sense if she's your LI. The "I couldn't let you go" should have been an LI only line.

That line is odd if you didn't romance her. Some think Liara says it b/c she is madly in love with Shepard even if the feelings aren't returned. I myself don't really like that idea. I think it cheapens it for those that do romance Liara.

Personally, I think that line was supposed to be there only for a Shepard that romanced her but it's available to all because of a bug. That whole portion of the dialog wheel is bugged, tbh.

I agree with everything you said. Why would she say that kind of thing to a non-romanced Shepard? She wouldn't be that close to you. Also, there's a bunch off wonky things with the dialog wheel during that scene. Some of the paragon based options give you renegade and vice versa.

I agree justin and jib. Having that regardless of whether you romanced her cheapens it. Worse, it cheapens her character. It's all too easy to read her as having become All About Shepard (her subsequent treatment you notwithstanding). It took me a long time to get over the intense unrequited crush interpretation. I don't want that for her because I'm not a fan of that device in fiction.

Put the line in the mouth of a romanced Liara, though, and it becomes breathtakingly romantic.

Whoa, someone finally understands!! That's exactly what we've been arguing since the game released. Man I hope if it's not fixed in some future DLC, that they fix this debacle in ME3.

just played the liara part in the game again today so I can get the line about her by kasumi and was thinking why did they not just put a line like how could I be mad about you giving them my body I love you would have made it so much better and would at least show they still cared for each other

I don't see why not. It's obvious you're not here to troll the thread :)

After you tell Liara you're not interested in her during ME1, she drops it and you never hear about it again. It's odd that they would bring up the 'unrequited love' thing at some random point in ME2 without building it up beyond the initial rejection. I'm still going to go with the idea that it's a bug. The line itself is easy to miss b/c of a dialog wheel bug.

I think the buginess of Liara's ME2 dialog is due to the fact that they've changed her story-line and dialogs a few times during production of ME2 by cutting out some old stuff and hacking up the scene a bit.

Hmmm giving it a bit more thought, I'd have to agree that it seems like there is a lot missing from that entire "reunion".

Yeah, run the romance plot and you'll start to notice. After seeing all that cut out dialog that everyone is using as proof for Liara DLC, I think they took that scene, scrapped what they had going and decided to change it at the last minute (maybe for the comic series), and didn't clean up the mess.

Okay, a Miranda fan that thinks Lia is cool and seems to be more rational than some of the regulars?  (Though we love LET and Stubbs for their enthusiasm, really we do ;).)  Pull up a chair :)

Some on-the-fly plot changes would explain a lot. I've done it myself on an infinitely smaller scale, and the results are never pretty. I think the idea of what they were trying to do with Liara is excellent. I'm a sucker for "what profit vengeance" stories. Their execution was lacking. I still think they can pull it off, and I'm looking forward to the conclusion of Liara's storyline in ME3 because I like being put through the emotional wringer, and I suspect that this will do the trick.

That's what I'm hoping for. I don't want this whole ordeal to just blow over, that would be terrible story telling. I like to think it's darkest just before dawn, and having the story take that route, but have the dawn in the end. It would be the best emotionally engaging romance there is in the series. =]

Hopefully the SB arc is gritty and dark...I'd like to see how far Liara is willing to go to get her revenge and just how much her character has changed from ME1. At least it would be cool to me.

Hopefully they have a set plan for Liara in ME3 and she becomes important again. The Liara story should then be wrapped up nicely.

I don't think this will happen in the rumored DLC as it's just extra stuff that not all ME players necessarily see. I expect it to be romance neutral with maybe a line or two difference if you romanced Liara or not..nothing substantial though.

They need to focus on developing her character and making sense of what happened to her in the past 2 years before picking up the romance again, IMO.

I want her to come around though. We know from ME2 how hellbent she is on taking out the shadow broker. I just hope she snaps out of it eventually. Or we help her kill the SB once and for all. I bet the SB is somehow connected with the reapers.

They really do need to fill in her story first though.
