Okay her mouth definitely seems to be moving in that one.  But I can make out one word she says so it was utterly redundant.

We can discuss and dissect the scene over and over but it'll always come back to square one. And that is from a player's perspective it just doesn't make any sense. The necessary information just isn't there and its extremely frustrating how our Shepards all of a sudden have the emotional capability of a rock. I can only hope DLC fixes this issue.

Actually this happened to my male Shep. i was ultra Paragon and never had any interest in other NPCs. In my ME2 playthrough I got this..I never even noticed a kiss I thought she was doing a mini joining (their heads rubbed and I never saw a frontal kiss) and also gave a whisper. My scene was so strange...that is why I kept saying I didn't even get a kiss..I really couldn't see it.

I believe you, this is what actually happened my first time too (but as Femshep).  I totally saw the whispering, but missed the kiss.  All I noticed was the extreme closeup of the back of my head.  Thankfully (I guess) the whole scene and dialog was confusing enough that I had to reload several times to try and figure out what was going on so I noticed the smooch but then became obsessed with trying to figure out what the hell the whispering was.

I'm Paragon and always shut down Mr. "Mixed Signals" Alenko before it gets to the love triangle confrontation.  Considering the lack of everything else in the presentation though it takes more faith than I have to assume they added any complexity to a scene so lacking in basic sense.
Weren't people saying she has different audio for her replies to stuff like when she says she can't go with you based on if she's an LI or not?  She's an LI for all my Shepards so I've never really heard anything but the LI version if there are different audios.

It's more likely that they changed the dialogue late in development, cut a bunch of stuff out and already had the VA recorded. So they tried to do something that didn't need to have acting - unfortunately it's hard to get across emotion with CG characters.



They do a good job with the animation in the game, but it's the voice actors that really sell it. Lip syncing especially is hard to get right; I'd personally never count on it to get information across to the player. Otherwise you end up with what we have here - which is "whaaa?"

Part of it also seems due to the current DLC "strategy". I don't think anyone would deny that the current and soon to be DLC all consists of content that was either finished at release or very close to it. You've got Zaeed, Kasumi, Hammerhead, and Liara/Shadowbroker. It is almost as at some point they picked out sections to chop out merely for the sake of adding them back in later as DLC.
Liara's whole scene is an incarnation of too much editing to accomodate content changes and not enough polishing for cohesion. The end result is confusion.

I remember someone mentioning in the group that her tone and such sounded a bit different for a LI and non-LI. Something like she sounds more irritated and annoyed when talking to a non-LI shep. I don't know if its true since I only have Shepards that have her as a LI.

Final Fantasy XIII comes out in North America next week and Ali Hillis voices the main playable character, Lightning in English. Its going to be strange playing it because I'll keep thinking its Liara, lol!

Actually thats what I get from most of the ME2 squad,its like they had a lot of interesting ideas but did never go trough with them,many squadmates are lacking somewhat content wise esspecially the romance interest if you have the "wrong" gender or dont romance them.

Agreed, I think they just had too many characters for the time and budget they had.  They all felt to me far too shallow for a story that was supposed to be "about the characters".

I just now loaded up my FemShep just before the conversation and you can definitely see it.  It's quick, but its there.  I bet they cut the dialogue and never bothered to fix the animation.

All the confusion and lack on in-game content was a good (if not sneaky) marketing ploy. The fact of the matter is, I am now buying and looking forward to the release of the rest of the Redemption comics (and I do not even read comics) to find out what is really going on with Liara! I would also go out and purchase (well done) related dlc, if only to cure my liara-induced OCD!

I doubt they would cut a full conversation. They seem to have had several ideas. First, Liara teams up with Legion to recover the body, and you recruit him from the SB's ship. That idea got at least part of the way off the ground as Legion has a ton of dialogue for portions of the game before you can get him. They cut that and decided to do a comic book. Then they had the idea that Shepard would somehow learn where the Shadow Broker's base is and team up with Liara to defeat him. That was also cut, but elements of the dialogue remain. This will probably be focus of the DLC.

So if the comic was developed last summer, that means that's a pretty major story change happening pretty late in development. So they needed an interim conversation with Liara and we got the sort of half-finished feeling thing that's in the game. Maybe they recorded the VO a year ago, and so were stuck - who knows?

It definitely feels like there's a lot missing from the conversation though.

Well, I don't really think it's an "I'm over you" moment. She initiates the kiss, after all. If you are female, she clearly whispers something that ends in "I love you" but doesn't for males for some reason.
It wasn't handled very well for sure.
I took it to mean she's afraid of being watched, and also afraid of Shepard's reaction once he/she discovers she gave the body to Cerberus. I think it would be hard to argue she's gotten over Shepard - she's terrified he/she will hate her, which wouldn't be the case if she didn't care.
It makes the most sense for her to be obsessively hoping for and dreading this moment. I think she needed a much bigger reaction to whether or not Shepard affirms/denies her handing over the body. That's gotta be a big moment for her, since she went through so much to bring him/her back.

Realistically, it's just the writers being obtuse - which is unfortunate because it comes across as more "Wait, what are they going for?" than actually mysterious and dramatic.

Went to check the youtube vids aswell, looks more like a cut dialog scene from Liara. Since you dont hear a voice or any whisper at all.

Hm, this is all to strange. Ah well, time to start the import and hope for some Liara content down the road. =P

Yeah, I'm not really sure what they were going for. It's definitely very odd.

The male/female Shepard models are different sizes, so maybe they didn't have time to fix up both of the cutscenes?

Still, seems like something is missing; it really stands out since the rest of the game is pretty polished. I wonder what happened.

I'm about at Virmire (actually just putting it off doing side missions) in ME1. Does anyone remember what are the top armors for Liara and Tali and where to find them? I'm guessing it may be Colossus, but I don't know if a light Col armor exists? I know I found one for Tali, but couldn't find one for Liara.



Anyone?
