What i dont get is how she went into the information business after showing how much she was obessed with her research in me1 .. it doesn't make a whole lot of sence..apart from her having some sort of debts O_O??

besides, THIS is the theme for Liara.

I'm sure BioWare wishes. :pinched:

I can see it now. In order to gain revenge against the SB and keep her love alive eternally she will side w/ Harbinger and become his number one apprentice and wipe out all the Specters. Later Liara will face against Shepherd on some isolated volcano planet where she is presumably killed. Heartbroken, Shepard will go into hiding, but keep studying the ways of the Specdfters and honing her biotics. Years later, in Mass Effect IV, a mysterious black clad Asari cyborg will lead ground assaults to clean out any rebellion to the ascension. But two twins born on Illium, one Asari and the other human, will become the new hope for the galaxy.

Yay... perfect ME/SW crossover :o... but taking jokes aside sad thing is that for too many people on this forum this real case scenario.<_<.

Exactly what it seems to be. Liara has forced herself to abandon her passion in science and the Protheans in order to do what she views as a necessity. In ME2, the way Liara longingly mentions a digsite suggests to me that she really misses her archaeology career. I like to imagine that late at night, in between thinking about Shepard and quietly sobbing to herself, Liara would check the extranet for any news regarding the Protheans or any discoveries made. I get the feeling that she really misses her research. :-(

Poor Liara, she really does need comforting and for Shepard to help get her out of that office.

Damn... i wish i can divert Normandy back on Therum, find another Prothean dig site whit same sort of security device, returning on Illum, catch Lia in that bubble again and drag her back on Normandy...:o.

And then released her only when she promis to give up her hunt for SB :D.

I hope you don't mind that I just join the discussion but I think that in ME 3 it will all be better. All ME1 LIs were stalled by the devs in ME2 to keep them alive but so they just had to give them some "plausible" reasons why they can not join. And to be honest I think that we got better with Liara than the Ash or Kaidan people, I mean Liara is driven by complex emotional reasons and not just like the otheer two who were made to act like "waaah, you with Cerberus, i am angry, so thats now all my dialogue, i should go" on Horizon.

Yeah, we almost HAVE to love the OP of this amazing thread ... but there were a lot of good points in here, I've got to admit. The problem is, sometimes we do idealize the game just a bit...

I was speaking to my brother earlier in the week, and he said something about something I didn't even notice anymore about the first game. "Wait, her mother died and she's confessing her attraction?" I do believe that's called Mood Whiplash to some people, even though I think they did a decent job to mitigate it with her realistically stoic attitude.

Still, we really did not get everything we wanted, or should have wanted, in the first game. We get a lot about asari culture, but nothing about Lia's experience in college or how she managed to brush off being a known 'pureblood' so well -- probably better than the asari arguing with the batarian-fathered asari did. AND we got everything stuck together in those conversations.

Okay, Dragon Age has moved up in my eyes, it's encroaching on ME's 'favorite game ever' title. (Amazingly, ME2 is still in the top ten. I know, right?)

Still in top 10? It's still in the top 5 for me. I know most people here didn't like it, but I still thoroughly enjoy ME2. =]

I'm no Liara lover but as i was searching for music to download last night i ran across this song in which the lyrics perfectly describes Liara in ME2.

Blue Foundation - Eyes On Fire (Zeds Dead Remix)

Ciao.

I'll seek you out,
Flay you alive
One more word and you won't survive
And I'm not scared of your stolen power
I see right through you any hour

I won't soothe your pain
I won't ease your strain
You'll be waiting in vain
I got nothing for you to gain

...

Really? Or are these things you think Liara would say to the SB?

Well she already threatened to Flay someone alive, and the rest perfectly describes her homicidal obssesion to kill the shadow broker.

"Ah Yes... Liara is evil"... We have REJECTED that claims... and by the way sorry to disappoint you but you are very wrong in your assumptions.

Yes lets pretend liara isin't obssesed with killing the SB, she would never dare threatened to flay someone with her mind, Yes she is so going to show mercy on the SB and not be tempted to harm him in the slightest sense. What Liara hunting the SB for being wronged?, oh "By the stars no!" Shes tottally suger and rainbows in ME2, the song only reminds me of her desire to get at the SB i never said she was evil, and if someone thought that they clearly got the wrong message. If i wanted to find a song to describe liara's natural personality i'd go pull up some Celine Dion cry in your arms after we make love crap, no offense..

We need a "Don't Feed The Trolls" sign, me thinks. ../../../images/forum/emoticons/angry.png

I really hope your not calling me a troll for clerifying Liara's desire to kill the shadow broker... If so either we are not playing the same game or your just a portion of a group of Fanatical Liara fans who wont tolerate any talk of Liara that dosen't make her out to be saint, if the latter please seek mental help.

Actually, I think it would be quite interesting if Liara became the main villain for ME3. That is something ME2 was lacking, unless you count TIM, though not everyone does. I have no problem thinking Liara capable of all kinds of nasties, but formulating that opinion in a jest seems like you’re just egging people on, looking for a fight. I’m certain if I were to go into the Tali thread and point out that she has “chicken feet” I would be burned at the stake. While a valid truth, I still know not to do it. Anyway, if jest was not your intent, sorry. No hard feelings.

Agreed, and it's one thing that I do like with Liara's reasons for not joining the Normandy again is that they are complex, emotional, and very sympathetic IMO. Plus, she's done a hell of a lot for Shepard, and her chief motive for taking down the Shadow Broker is still based around her love for Shepard. When she finally breaks down and opens her heart, it shows that she still cares. Deeply.

However, one thing that I think Ash and Kaidan romancers get better than us Liara fans is the actual reunion scene and dialogue itself. There's alot more raw emotion involved, Ash and Kaidan actually yell at Shepard, there's a bit of 'oomph' to the reunion. It's emotion packed, it's tetchy and it's very much an honest argument. However, with Liara, our Shepards are limited to saying either bland neutral responses to her, or jerkass renegade choices. There's no fire to the reunion, and until Liara opens up right at the end it's almost completely devoid of emotion. Shepard just sits there like . It's infuriating, we know that we want our Shepards to reach out and comfort Liara, to tell her it's okay and that she's not hated, but what are we limited to? Prattling on about the mission.

Both sets of fans got screwed, though. Just in very different ways.

We don't mind. I think ME3 will be the end of all the romance related drama (thank god). I agree that we got it better than Ash/Kaidan. That reunion was a tad bit short and ended with an email. The one thing that bothered me more than anything else during the reunion scene was when she shook her head after the kiss, well it's tied with Shepard going  the entire time.

Anyone know where I can find a bigger version of this image? and/or where it came from? Ratzerman said it came from pre ME1 but I have yet to find it anywhere... including BioWare Mass Effect websites.

I have one saved on my computer. It's a bit bigger:

The story kind of pushes it below the 5 slot ... so far it's Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Goldeneye, KotOR, and Perfect Dark in the top five slots. But it's still a fun game, in my opinion. (Okay, and I can't figure out if I should slot Super Mario Brothers, SMB 3, and Super Mario 64 in there for historical value or not, but the replay value is, a-not so good these days :P.)

Still, a lot more Liara and ME2 would have a chance of overtaking EVERYone.

I think it was a balancing act. Liara fans got the mission. Ash/Kaiden fans got the emotion. Although, if you fight w/ Liara it is more emotionally satisfying. Tell her you are not going to kill for her, etc.

All of those are worthy titles. I miss Super Mario RPG. That game was so horribly addicting. I'd love to play that again. I wonder if you can download it to the Wii...

Hmm, you got a point. The discussion was really unsatisfying. I wished I had some more personal options. After the collector ship my first thought was to tell Liara the collector/protheans thing but it's just that you're bound to the limits of the game there.:(
The discussion on Illium was just made the same for both Liara romancers and those who didn't. They could have added some more options, how much does it take to record + program such things? The worst thing with the reeunion...

That's left to interpretation. I didn't hear anything audible, so I doubt we can use it as any real proof of anything extra to add to the encounter. It is fun to speculate though.

To be honest, I do think Liara's romance suffers a little bit in ME1 due to the fact that she can be picked up quite late. They had to limit the amount of romantic discussions you could have with Liara, and alot of the romance development has been consequently condensced down.

You can perfectly see where they were going with Liara's romance, I love how it develops from an interest in Shepard on a scientific level, and then through nurturing her interest by talking to her, it develops into romantic attraction, before the absolutely beautiful discussion you have with Liara in which she talks about how much the asari union means to her, and how deep, special and spiritual it is. The development is great, and shows how Liara's interest becames tru, deep love. Sadly though, they were forced to condensce it into a few conversations. But hey, at least we also get the beautiful locker scene, and the night before Ilos!

Liara's romance remains my absolute favourite though. No other LI or romance compares to it at all.
