ME2 had better characters IHMO. As for a story, the game needs good gameplay. ME was a choir to play because of it's gameplay. I can't even replay it again anymore, it is just bad. ME2 story could have been better, but it was still better then half the crap out there.

All I'll say on the ME1 vs ME2 war is that either ME3 better be 70 hours long or BW better change their tactics and serve up a ME4 w/ Shepard. ME2 is a good game, fun and looks pretty, but as far as over all story, it could have been done in about half an hour. Also, I want a ME w/ Shepard on center stage, not the guest star in her own show.

I do believe it's a bit closer, though, between the two games.  This article lists the 360 sku as selling 572,000 copies in January, and this article says ME1 sold 'a million copies in just over three weeks'.  But mainly I'm trying to find the site that GI uses for sales figures to see if it's still strong.

And as for the 'story is the only problem', you should know that you're standing among story freaks.  Fully aware, fully proud, BioWare's ability to tell a story is why we love them and why some of us feel genuinely betrayed by ME2.

Yes. I could care less abotu the shooter mechanic of the game, I would pay triple for ME3 that was all abotu the story and NO shooter combat. Don't get me wrong, I love shooters, have played about all of them, but I don't love MAss Effect for its shooter, its the story and characters. There are a whole lot better shooters out there than either ME games.

I have been a Bioware fan since Baldurs Gate, Bioware has always had strong story and gameplay. ME had a good story, but crappy gameplay. ME2 had amazing gameplay, but not that good of a main story, the side stories where alot better. ME3 needs a balance. Even then, ME story was not even close to BG2, Jade Empire or KOTOR.

I DO care about the shooter mechanic, truthfully, though ME2 isn't the best third-person shooter in existence by a long shot.  (It's a better shooter than the original, though.)  I care more about the story.

A game needs good gameplay, ME2 deleivered on that, but with a crappy main story. Bioware has done games with amazing gameplay and story (KOTOR and BG 1+2) ME had a better story then ME2, but the gameplay just makes it painful to play.

and ME3 needs a balance. If ME3 can be like BG2 (an amazing story and fantastic gameplay) then ME3 could very well be one of the best games ever.

Not only do you have the right to your opinion, I know at least two or three people who agree with you.  My brother in particular is beyond annoyed at how the controls are such a hybrid of an RPG and a shooter.  And it did take my Perfect-Dark-trained self more than a bit of learning time to get used to ME1.

But do you think you'd respond well to ME1 with ME2's engine?  I think it sounds like you would call it the greatest game of all time ... oddly enough, I probably would too.

The combat style is similar. Taking cover and such, we just dont have the blind fire.

It personally reminds me more of Rainbow Six, what with the loadout and the squadmate directions. 

Plus the Heavy Weapons are simiar to Mega Man/Ratchet and Clank.

And the Powers are unlike anything that I have played in a squad based game.

Damn Liara is powerful as a character.  The most powerful out of all of them so far IMO

Agreed.  This is the Liara thread, not the ME2-iz-leet-and-ME1-suckz thread.
