IDK, I come into contact with alot of Ashley and Kaidan fans, and I see them complaining about what happened in ME2 as much as us Liara fans. I don't buy this sentiment that us Liara fans complain to a greater extent than any other fanbase. We may have a few more very vocal individuals, yes, but as a whole I don't see anything that suggests our fanbase complain any more than any others.

Indeed. My complaints about the rest of the game and my complaints about the way the Liara situation was handled, are two different things. I was already very disappointed with the game before I ever met Liara on Illium. Her appearance was pretty much the only thing I looked forward to at that point, and to be disappointed again was only the icing on the cake. However, I strongly deny any claim that I'm just bashing the whole game because I don't like how my favourite character was handled. No, I am very able to keep these things separated. The thing is I simply don't like many things in ME 2, especially not as a successor to ME 1. But as I said, this debate should mostly be left in other threads. That's not always possible, and sometimes you can't debate the Liara situation without going into other details, but it is the general idea of different threads in a forum.

And again, anyone who doesn't think of themselves as a fan of a particular character, should do everyone, themselves included, a favor, and leave it at that. I'm sure the Tali and Garrus fans in particular love ME 2, as do the fans of any ME 2 crew member, but I'm not going there and telling them why I don't either.

I love that shot, Liara showing off all of her biotic badassery. She doesn't even need to draw her weapon, she just flares up her biotics!

As if she's saying: "Go ahead, make my day!"

But that's not something she would say or think, certainly not the one from ME 1.

If I remember correctly, doesn't she say something like "It would not be wise to face the geth unarmed?" Sounds pretty cool when she says that.

Yes it shows that she has a defensive side to her , as she stated in me1 that while on dig sites she would encounter privateer's and  so on.

but need more cute innocent pictures now Image IPBImage IPB

That picture is from when the guards tell Shepard to hand over their guns, right? I love that scene when Liara "turns on" her biotics. She looks so hot.

Spot on. That's why people who accuse Liara of being "weak" are way off base. She's always been very strong, and capable of looking after and standing up for herself. She's also very headstrong, and when she wants something, she'll go out of her way to get it. For example, the fact that Liara defied Benezia and those that expected to follow in her footsteps, and pursued her passion for the Protheans and her career in archaeology. That shows just what a strong person Liara is. People mistake her inexperience and awkwardness in social situations as weakness. That isn't the case. She's strong, assertive and an intelligent person.

I don't think she is socially awkward. I think she just has her first crush, and she's unsure what Humans are like, and what Shepard thinks about her. She stumbles over her words because of Shepard, not any failing on her part. She kind of doesn't know how to act around Shepard or what to say. She's never been in love before.

Huh, that's a good point actually. Witness the confrontation scene with Ashley. Liara isn't bullied by Ash's insults and teasing at all in the slightest, and responds to her in a cool, calm and rational manner. She doesn't get intimidated by what Ashley says about her. She argues her own case, and refrains from being insulting or abrasive herself. Liara again displays her passionate side when Ashley is rejected and shows concern and care for how she feels.

I do think though that to a certain extent Liara is socially inexperienced though. She's been virtually alone for 50 or so years. She's never really been in contact with other people, and it shows somewhat in how she interacts with those around her. She may be strong and assertive, but aspects of her social inexperience and awkwardness do show. For example, Liara doesn't lie at all and is very truthful and honest. When you first speak to her in the debriefing after rescuing her, she admits that she didn't understand Joker was joking because she has had little contact with humans and other people.

Aww, great work! In that particular shot, Liara looks so sad. Makes me want to smother that poor little blue face with kisses.

Even if you dont make her your LI in ME1, you can tell she has deep feelings for Shepard in ME2.
To do what she did to get him back even though she gave him to Cerberus.

Tali kinda the same way find out she has deep feelings for Shepard in ME2.

Always did love Liara she our little blueberry! ;)

Right, but don't forget who her mother is/was. Liara grew up in a court life style. She would of been taught how to handle herself around people. I call it a court lifestyle, because her mother had followers, commandos, was very wealthy, and was a powerful figure, the Asari Councilor even knew her by voice alone. That says something in a race that has most likely hundreds of billions of members.

Just because Ashley says something, doesn't make it true. I'm sure Liara can lie...but that doesn't have anything to do with social skills. And Joker is an ass, and Liara doesn't understand Human jokes. Again, just because Liara doesn't know what Humans are like and how to best interact with them, doesn't mean she is awkward.

In fact, I think Liara is more uncomfortable around Humans, because she doesn't understand them...and she is used to understanding how to act. So it throws her off. Her mother would of taught her about the rest of the races, because Asari are major players, and she would know, that Liara would have to interact with them same day. Humans wouldn't of been very important, in the years Liara was growing up. In fact, looking at the timeline...Humans were not even known to the galaxy when Liara was living at home.

I do think that Liara not lying or least being reluctant to be untruthful is related to her social inexperience, though. Because she never really comes into contact with other people, she doesn't know how to properly converse with them. As a result, Liara is always very open, honest and forthright about her feelings, what she thinks and her opinions. She doesn't know how to conceal her feelings and thoughts, as she just hasn't had the experience around other people.

True...I do get the impression that Liara was somewhat distant and ostracised by her peers, though. Perhaps she had a somewhat lonely childhood, being the daughter of a powerful matriarch. Liara was probably relocated alot as Benezia likely travelled around alot due to her influence and power, and this would have resulted in Liara not making any friends, if at all. I can imagine that when she was at asari university studying for her archaeology doctorate, she would have been alone and completed her course and studied by herself.

But from what shephard seen in me2 when they met agaon on Illium is that she has "matured" in a sence she is interacting with people , and showing that she can deal with issue's at hand , but when you over hear her conversation to  human about an unpiad debt she seems cold but then snaps out of it when she see's shephard meaning she was only trying to act in that manner.

so she is still a sweet cutie pie in my books Image IPBImage IPBImage IPB

Well a court style life doesnt necessarily mean you get people skills it can also mean isolation,I would assume Benezia kept Liara sheltered and therefore quite isolated from the general asari population.
Besides that we dont know enough about matriachs to know what their "courts" look like or what relationship they have with their followers,it could be a servant/master relationship but it could also be more of a teacher/student one or something with a quasi religous tone sort of like Jesus and his followers.
