I really like Liara's little armoured toes in that picture. :P

As for the food discussion, I can imagine Liara eating human food in her office in order to help her think of Shepard, and to help ease the pain of missing her so much. If this romance pack ever materialises though, I've always said that I want Liara and Shepard to have dinner and dancing together. They can try out each other's food there, playfully putting the forks into each other's mouths, with Shepard accidentally slipping at one point and getting some food on Liara's cheek. "Goddess, Shepard. You certainly are clumsy for a galactic savior!"^_^

I'll say it again, but any new player who started with ME2's opinion of Liara is worth diddly squat, and has no credibility at all. We can dismiss pretty much any opinion these new players have of Liara as they're ignorant of her character, and everything Liara has been through and what her true personality is like. Like I said, who cares what a new player thinks of Liara? Their opinion of her is worth nothing.

Plus, I'm not actually sure the playerbase has expanded that much with ME2. I think when I read an article recently comparing the two games' sales figures, ME2 had higher initial sales, but dropped off pretty rapidly, to a lower level than what ME1's sales levels were in subsequent weeks and months following the game's release.

I imagine when they discount the game it will shoot back up.  I didnt play ME 1 until late 2008/early 2009, well after its release for the PC in Spring 08.  I got it for $20 and was quite impressed.

Bioware probably.

Edit:  Actually, I thought about it and no they probably don't.

I actually never fully pursued the Vicona romance, but if anything I would compare Liara more to Jaheira, while Tali is obviously Aerie. If I have no doubt of one thing, it's that her fans will get everything they want in ME 3. We on the other hand don't have the numbers nor the behaviour, and we don't even know what the writers and EA think about Liara, so everything remains possible.

I think they should provide a bundle when ME 3 comes out, so that everyone can get the earlier titles for a nice price. No excuse anymore not to play them. But we've already been told that they consider each installment - including part 3 - as stand alone games, and that tells me everything I need to know.

BioWare will give Liara her large story role in ME3, her own DLC, and have her interact with Shepard on a intimate and personal level, displaying character development and alot of emotion when we are eventually able to comfort her. If that seems odd to new players then tough. It's their responsibility to go back, play ME1 and educate themselves about Liara, the rest of the characters, and the ME universe as a whole.

Jaheira was a bit more mature and world-wise.  She also was married.  I guess by pushing Liara into a "dark" direction they are trying to make up for her age.  Viconia doesn't have an obvious parallel...

The Aerie-Tali connection is obvious.  If Tali were human, I could imagine, just like in BG II, you could have a baby and carry it in your inventory as you did with Aerie (don't ask me why you would carry your firstborn child in an inventory pack as you fought dragons and demons).

Do you have a link to that article?  I can't believe I've actually reached the point where I want a Bioware game to sell poorly.

Eh, don't let that completely ruin your day.  For awhile I got despondent about that fact too, but it can be done and done well IF they put in the time to make it so.

The only thing that would really ****** me off is make the Liara romance in ME 3 so open that being loyal at all would be absolutely pointless.  A few crap lines of extra dialogue and no fundamental plot change would be laaaaaaaaame.

ratz, it was something that I found on vgchartz. I'm trying to find it now, but to no avail. I'll let you know if I stumble across it again.

No need to tell me. ;) I still consider Jaheira to be the best and my favourite romance in any video game. Neither comparison holds much water, but I do think Liara has more in common with Jaheira than with Viconia?

The real numbers will be when EA announces it on the next conference call.  So far, it seems the game has sold very well.  I can't imagine ANY RPG outside of WoW related stuff selling as well as Square-Enix stuff, but I imagine Bioware is pleased.

Now imagine Bioware and Square Enix working together and what that union might produce...Image IPB

Hmm, I bet it's reasons like this we're starting to hear rumors like the LJ quotes and heavy concentration on improvement of DLC. Maybe they are listening...

The Jaheria ending is the one I can imagine for Liara and Shepard really.

Liara is still a maiden in need of new experiences.  Shepard may have different things he/she needs to do.  Yet, even if they are apart, they are always together in some way as Jaheria and the main character were.

Then again, Shepard isn't the living God of Murder...Image IPB

You should probably prepare yourself for being pissed off then.  I can't imagine being faithful/cheating amounting to anything more than an extra line or two of dialogue.  Aside from that I imagine all the romance paths will be the same word for word.

Watching Asari turn into motorcycles and fly off into the sunset? No thanks. I'm enjoying FFXIII but some of it is just WTF moments one after another.

Realistically though, they can't have a new ME3 Liara romance and a loyal ME1 romance with Liara in ME3 be a uniform, singular entity as the two are just way too different. A new ME3 Liara romance has to have Liara grow to trust Shepard again to meld for the first time, it has to have Liara develop her feelings of love for Shepard. All this has already been covered in ME1 for those of us who will be faithful across the trilogy, so it would be completely unnatural to have it rehashed and occuring all over again. A romanced Liara and a newly romanced Liara have got to be fundamentally different. It will be ridiculous otherwise.

I still find it astonishing that any ME1 LI fans still have any hope.  I'm not sure if I should feel envy or sorrow toward you. :P

Bioware and Square-Enix both do what they do well, but they are on opposite spectrums of the RPG experience.

Bioware offers some choice, or at least the well developed illusion of it.  As such, they cannot go into the same depth as Square, but the enjoyable experience comes from building your own story and its ending.  The epilogues are usually text based and modified on your choices, so a bit underwhelming, but the journey is fun.

Square offers NO choice.  The entire game is on rails, predefined.  This person will die, this person will fall in love, this person will flee.  All of those are set in stone and you have no choice in the matter.  Even so, that sort of controlled atmosphere means they can spend A LOT of time on energy on making sure the ride is worth it.  They can spend money on beautiful CGI work, massive amounts of VO dialogue (no variables to take into account) and overall a well polished, if at times, odd product.

Square-Enix is developing the next Deus Ex, one of the best RPG's of all time.  I am rather worried we will see giant anime seraphim and a main character whose gender is unclear...

Very well said. I'm enjoying FFXIII but it's extremely weird. Crossing the two? I can't imagine it, at all. Square-Enix is developing the next Deus Ex? I am very interested in seeing how that turns out, but as you said, it's going to go anime. That's just... I don't know yet.

If Bioware has trouble writing emotional scenes, maybe they can hire one of Square's Japanese writers. They did very well with the whole Yuna-Tidus reunion at the end of Final Fantasy X-2.
