Do they show Shep's body, or is it in a box of some kind? Its supposed to be pretty messed up, right?

They show it from a distance in one frame, as the Cerberus scientists begin working on it, but it's completely featureless. Gender neutral, no discernable race. It just looks like meat and muscle tissue. What's worse is Liara is with Miranda, watching this happen. To think, that's Liara's lover there, and she's forced to see Shepard as nothing more than a carcass. How must that have affected her?

No, not really. She doesnt look comfortable watching, but more resolute and determined, because what follows is the start of her campaign against the shadow broker and trying to save Feron.

I think Liara has the potential to be a powerful biotics user. Up until recently though, I got the impression that outside of a few skimershes with pirates, she never had much of a chance to hone them proper. Of course, there is the comics and stuff now too.

But the question for me is... how much is too much when it comes to biotics? I'm writing a fan fic where there's some pretty potent asari commandos (more like terrorists, really) and it's hard trying to decide how powerful they should be, since there's no clear "benchmark" for such things. You've got Liara in the comics (which as mentioned above, could be just for exaggerated comic*emphasis, like all superpowers tend to be), Jack and then Samara. But that's about it.

But I digress.

Well, I'd say that as an Asari, Liara should be more powerful than any human biotic (read: Jack) for obvious reasons. Samara can't be too powerful as she barely escaped her encounter with her 200 year old (?; maybe 400; I can't remember) daughter so that she needs Shepard to save her. If that's any indication, I wouldn't say she's that powerful.

I would say so, yeah. Particularly when Miranda says that the damage is far greater than they anticipated, and that they may not be able to bring Shepard back after all. When Liara expresses worry that Cerberus may flub up the resurrection, and that they'll bring him/her back all wrong and messed up, she looks shattered with a dark shadow obscuring half of her face. It's hurting her, badly.

Liara looks far more sad when holding the data Feron gave her, saying "We did it..... you did it".

She also looks positively mortified as Feron calls for her to leave with Shepard and she screams out his name.

This is why folks were so pissed when issue 4 was released.

It was therefore pretty powerful, but Liara absolutely battered it with her biotics before she ran off to the ship.

Shepard would've killed the thing within seconds. I still don't see why Liara couldn't too. Wait, I see - the plot demanded it. <_< Kind of the reversed Jack situation, who was able to destroy three heavy mechs once, but doesn't stand a chance against a single one later.

I wouldn't say so, Dink. Liara looks absolutely crushed when Miranda tells her Cerberus could flub up the Lazarus Project. She looks extremely troubled and uncomfrtable prior to that when she's forced to watch the Cerberus scientists start working on Shepard.

The reason she looks sad whilst holding the data is because it's the initial effects of her survivor's guilt coming into play.

Plus, I'd say that by far the most mortified expression Liara has in the entire comic is during the flashback to the destruction of the Normandy.

Actually, before we get going again, this really isn't worth it. And I mean it this time. There is absolutely no point in debating over a comic with as bad presentation and scripting as Redemption has. It's fruitless.

I mean, the Shadow Broker refers to Liara as "that Alliance woman" for pete's sake. That te;;s you everything.

She doesnt. Im staring at it right now, and she looks a bit sad, but not "crushed".

Her entire expression can be summed up as "uncomfortable". The way shes holding herself shows shes not necessarily in agreement with whats going on. Then it quickly shifts to "resolute and determined" as she outlines how she must save Feron and have an excuse ready to be absent from ME2, which Miranda also nails home with a monumental lack of subtlety (great job guys, great job. You must have known what a pathetic job you did in the actual game when you have to write a comic to issue supporting comments).

Just like the cameo LET, bad writing or no, its part of Liaras character arc now. Id rather talk about how **** it is, than try my best to forget it ever happened.

Like Jayla said last night though, the comic being left so ambiguous and not having Liara state her full motives as she does in ME2 means that we're having to assign levels of canon, with certain material definitely more credible than the rest.

Why the hell is that the case?

Liaras motives mentioned in the game and the ones in the comic book match up. I know she tells Shepard shes doing it for him, but she also tells Shepard her "sources" reported he was alive, but she "never believed". Shes slightly decieved Shepard once already, even if it was out of a (slightly insulting if you romanced her) fear of Shepards reaction.

That supposed deception though was for a very good reason, the fear that Shepard will hate her. Why's that? Because of her love, and because she cares what Shepard thinks about her. That's why.

Plus, you only have to look at the emotions Liara displays when she opens up, and the fact that it;s the first time in the entire reunion that she actually acts like herself, and shows genuine emotion. She's being sincere.

They wrote her with her priorities screwed up thats for sure.

I hope people still are not paranoid about Feron. The guy is a real loser and screws up so many times, intentional or not. If they wrote that Liara had some sort of deep abiding affection for him (which would not make sense), I would feel less betrayed and more disappointed...

Liara, you are really DOWNGRADING to Feron from the savior of the Galaxy? I would have preferred Blasto the Hanar SPECTRE.

Thats debateable. Ive already said this, but I think Liara is basically admitting to not being able to trust him after she basically saved his life, with the only other option being staying dead and in the collectors hands no less.

If you do show resentment, Liara retorts with the perfectly logical response that it was the only choice she could make. I dont see why, if shes so ready to point out such an obvious fact, she on the flip side should forget it so easily with "OMG, Shepard might hate me".

I understand the point you made earlier - her ME2 role is an excuse to keep her out of the game, nothing more. The comic is also a pathetic attempt to justify that excuse.

Like I have said though, moving on like nothing is wrong isnt what I want to see.

I need a better explanation than the one I got in ME2, because "Ill let you go off on your suicide mission while I continue a vendetta for what the shadow broker did to you" (which will be meaningless if Shepard gets killed again) isnt enough for me.

Nah, I think that paranoia has passed, screw. Wouldn't Liara have gotten pretty pissed at Shepard for trvilialising him if she had any sort of affection for him?

"That anger can't be just from what you've told me...."

etc.

Yeah, like someone said though her whole "I have to repay the SB" is really lame if Shepard dies again. She really lets him/her go to death without even a proper goodbye?

Another Les/Dink brawl!

The only way we will be satisfied is if Bw ties up these obnoxious loose ends in a kickass way at the end of the trilogy. For everyone's sakes, I hope they do!

Yeah, that's exactly what pisses me off about the comic, and makes me hate them with a burning passion. We're being forced into a position now of choosing as to whether you accept what's displayed in the comic as gospel, and what she says two years ago is correct and she's being insincere when she opens up to Shepard, or whether what is shown in ME2 is correct when Liara drops her facade for the first time, shows genuine emotion at last, and puts her heart on the line in telling Shepard what has happened, why she's doing what she's doing and such.

It's awful, why is it so inconsistent and so cryptic?

It also doesnt matter which option you choose, neither one negates the fact that, like screw just pointed out, Bioware wrote the frakking cameo letting Shepards last words be "Ill talk to you later Liara..." and Liara and Shepard being content to let it be left at that. Ridicuoulsly galling if you romanced her... I thought to myself:

NO YOU FRIGGING WONT! NOT IF YOU DIE!

Which were they not taking seriously at this point? The (ridiculously weak) main plot of the game, or Liaras cameo and position as a character thats potentially extremely important to Shepard?

That's life though. My younger brother could get hit by a bus whenever he leaves for work in the morning, doesn't mean I'm going to follow him everywhere.

Liara trusts Shepard to come home alive. Plus, she even expresses remorse and regret that she can't come. How in any way does Liara embarking on the Collector mission make it any more likely that Shepard will survive? If anything, the possibilities for something worse happening exist as Liara could die, too.

I wouldn't predict anything at the moment. Somehow I can't help but get that suspicion that BioWare/EA have some kind of problem with especially the Liara romance now. What better way to get rid of it than pulling a new lover out of their hats. Of course I don't see that in her character, but why should that suddenly matter. I wouldn't say it's likely, just that nothing they do could surprise me anymore.
