Damn, and I was just leaving.
Lizard, although I share feelings of some sort of "abandonment", its too strong a term. Liara chooses to continue searching for the SB and Feron rather than help Shepard, at the time we believed, try and stop the reapers and save the galaxy.
Yes I hope she is apologetic for pursuing her vendetta above trying to help Shepard, but not by too much. Shepard was absent for a long period of time, and expecting her to up and join is no more or less selfish than Liara refusing Shepards request for help.
This. A certain amount of understanding is required on part of both Liara and Shepard. Regardless of individual interpretation, Liara does have complex emotional reasons for not joining the Normandy, and a certain amount of understanding is required on part of the player. Liara's reasons for not joining the Normandy are very sympathetic, and she is hurting and suffering alot. Badly. People seem to misrepresent Liara's seeming intial distance as Liara not caring about Shepard, but when she opens up that proves that isn't the case. There are still deep, intimate and caring feelings for Shepard, and alot of those are what's driving her in her hunt against the SB.
Ultimately, the player through Shepard shouldn't take it as some kind of personal affront that Liara doesn't join up and board the Normandy. Liara staying back doesn't mean that she sees her hunt as more important than Shepard. It means she views it as more important that joining up with Shepard, which to me is a clear distinction. Liara shows remorse and regret that she can't go, which is indicative of Shepard still meaning alot to her, but what's happening in her mind and how she's suffering means that she has to stay behind and complete this mission, for her own sake. She needs to ease her own pain.
