:D I love Wingedmoggy's work, and the relationship between her Renegade Shepard and Liara. It's so cute!

I wanted to apologise, Shepard. For what I did to you, for what Cerberus did to you. I gave them your corpse because I couldn't let you go...

You know how much we criticise Shepard in the Liara reunion scenes for acting like and emotionless idiot, particularly when Liara opens up her heart? Well I think this picture epitomises it perfectly:

Yes, I always imagine Jack's back there whispering to Shepard:

Jack:  psssst!  Shepard!  Don't you think you should get up and give her a hug?  You know, give her some comfort?

Shepard:

Jack:  Shepard!  pssst!  Shepard!

Shepard:

Jack:  F*ck it!  *runs over and gives Liara a hug*

Liara:  :crying:  Thank you for the hug.  I feel better now.

What makes me sad is when Shepard says "I'll talk to you later, Liara", she doesn't say goodbye.:crying:

That's right!  That's what she says!  I'll edit my post....

Well, at least it tells us Shepard expects to talk to Liara later.

Hah, I like the idea of Jack giving Liara a hug. I can picture it in my head, and I think it would look pretty cute! Unfortunately, I can also imagine Shepard sitting there like  as well.

Was it really too hard to have Shepard get up and hug Liara?

Of course not, but it was ok to degrade Shepard into a tool because they couldn't spend 20 minutes more on the whole scene.

I don't know what their reasons might be, Les. Just saying that I see signs. I already said something about the media campaign a few pages back. You can't deny that it did have some effect on ME 2.

And you can't just mix all EA games together. It's different franchises, different policies. It could very well be that they want to keep certain content out of the ME series, that's allowed in a different game.

Yeah, they said it would continue in ME 2 too, didn't they. Nothing continued. You might get a similarly short and odd scene in ME 3, but I would still call it "swept under the rug".

Finally, they stated before release that there would be no same-sex romances in ME 2. The Kelly thing was a bit of a surprise after that, but maybe that was their way to sneak something in that their bosses didn't want. It's not a full romance, as you certainly noticed, so legally there is "no same-sex romance", if that's what they were told. Maybe the bosses even gave their okay for this, as long as it's not a "controversial" (real) romance (with an alien).

But it's of course only speculation. I didn't even say that it necessarily would have to be just because a female Shepard can have a romance with Liara, you brought that up. Maybe there are other reasons, whatever they could be.

Yet another day I really shoulda logged on early...

I think we may need a logical rundown about facts and probable counter-facts, not just with this issue but with every one.  (Though only if we're all in a good enough mood to not fly off the handle.)  As a matter of fact, if I recall correctly, scmadsen and I were going to work out a list of fact vs. opinion regarding Redemption 4 a few weeks ago.  The problem is, the facts themselves need to be interpreted ...

But to answer this, in my opinion:
-- EA has Sims 3, where one can get married to a same-sex person and adopt a child with no issues.  One can also get married to an alien in Sims 2.  So I tend to think EA has no problems with that.
-- Bioware, a subsidiary company, has Dragon Age Origins which has Zevran, and ... sigh, :wub:Leliana:wub:... and not only does the world make it very clear that same sex couples are not treated any differently, Leliana as she is portrayed is probably the most moral person in the game when not hardened, with the possible exceptions of Wynne and non-hardened Alistair.  (Very similar to Kaidan's sole-exception status next to Liara.)  I see this as Bioware not only not having any problems ... but actually making a statement, one that I very much appreciate for reasons explored in the Waffles group, oddly enough more so than the Fight for the Love group.

-- And Mass Effect 2 features what I think, upon further reflection, to be plenty of indications that Liara either isn't covered by the 'same-sex romance' blanket (with Casey saying 'asexual' and clearly meaning 'monogendered' :P, though I wonder if we're up for another debate about that chesnut), with there being two asari mentioned with pureblood children treated sympathetically by my Shepard -- thus dealing with the product of 'same-sex' unions, Shiala coming onto both my Shepard and Somebody1003's Shepard ;), a few other pureblood references ... hell, lemme just say Illium is chock-full of references to Liara and Shepard's potential relationship.  In fact, in my opinion, though as I say it's just what I believe -- Illium is so full of Liara fanservice that Liara's presentation herself is even more jarring than she would be otherwise.

(I'd also reference a post in the Fan Club, but ... it seems to have disappeared.  Oh well, that was technically not a fact anyway, at least not a quotable one.)

We don't even need an interrupt for it.  All she needs to do is stay standing by the window and we get a {Hug your Girlfriend} option on the wheel ... okay, if I could have infliltrated BW and forced just one change before I was discovered, it'd be that.  Add some dialogue if at all possible that's more romance-specific and BOOM, even noz's happy!)

There are many different parts of Illium that I like to interpret as little nods to Shepard and Liara's relationship too. The asari that grieves over her deceased human bondmate when you return her lost locket? Definitely think that's a reference to Shepard and Liara's relationship. Likewise with the asari that's a part of the "Blue Rose of Illium" sidequest, when she callously dismisses asari-human relationships and triviliases them. Shepard's little offended expression is priceless. I wonder how Liara would have reacted had she heard that asari say that? Probably would have gone into a tirade about being so insensitive to their relationship, and that her relationship with Shepard is alot more deeper and meaningful than she trivialises it to be. Liara definitely wouldn't like what she says!

Honestly, not much could be worse, except if Liara was killed off in some dumb fashion.  Even Liara not being in ME2 at all would have been better than what we got :bandit:
