We don't even need an interrupt for it.  All she needs to do is stay standing by the window and we get a {Hug your Girlfriend} option on the wheel ... okay, if I could have infliltrated BW and forced just one change before I was discovered, it'd be that.  Add some dialogue if at all possible that's more romance-specific and BOOM, even noz's happy!)

Happy is an awfully strong word to use there.

Well, how's 'visibly less disappointed'?

That's acceptable.

There are many different parts of Illium that I like to interpret as little nods to Shepard and Liara's relationship too. The asari that grieves over her deceased human bondmate when you return her lost locket? Definitely think that's a reference to Shepard and Liara's relationship. Likewise with the asari that's a part of the "Blue Rose of Illium" sidequest, when she callously dismisses asari-human relationships and triviliases them. Shepard's little offended expression is priceless. I wonder how Liara would have reacted had she heard that asari say that? Probably would have gone into a tirade about being so insensitive to their relationship, and that her relationship with Shepard is alot more deeper and meaningful than she trivialises it to be. Liara definitely wouldn't like what she says!

I think you are stretching it now

All Shepards react the same to that cut on human/asari relations though, so it's not romance related.

Honestly, not much could be worse, except if Liara was killed off in some dumb fashion.  Even Liara not being in ME2 at all would have been better than what we got :bandit:

Imagine getting a touching email from Liara, in which she details that she's on the run from the Shadow Broker and can't remain in any one place for any length of time due to there being a price on her head. Liara would give a heartfelt apology that she can't meet with Shepard, and that she's doing so to protect her so that Shepard isn't dragged into her conflict with the SB. Liara would vow to meet Shepard again some day, and tearfully say that she wishes she could embrace Shepard in her arms.

I know, and it doesn't necessarily have to be. It's just there, a nice little nod to those of us who romance Liara, regardless of whether she's your LI or not.

What would make Nozy happy? Liara-related, of course.

Re-do ME2?  It couldn't end up worse, right? ;)

Oh, me too... seriously, if there's one thing I can't argue with, Shepard's behavior in the scenes we got is so horribly  as to make me think, "How did this scene end up in a BioWare game?"  We got more expressions from fem!PC in KotOR during the Carth declarations.  (Actually, we got none, but go with me here.)  It just smacks to me of running out of time to get the scene right, but even there I'm highly disappointed in Casey and crew, unless it's an attempt to mute the visible effects of cheating until ME3 ... then I'm 'a bit more than mildy disappointed'.

Yet another day I really shoulda logged on early...

I think we may need a logical rundown about facts and probable counter-facts, not just with this issue but with every one.  (Though only if we're all in a good enough mood to not fly off the handle.)  As a matter of fact, if I recall correctly, scmadsen and I were going to work out a list of fact vs. opinion regarding Redemption 4 a few weeks ago.  The problem is, the facts themselves need to be interpreted ...

But to answer this, in my opinion:
-- EA has Sims 3, where one can get married to a same-sex person and adopt a child with no issues.  One can also get married to an alien in Sims 2.  So I tend to think EA has no problems with that.
-- Bioware, a subsidiary company, has Dragon Age Origins which has Zevran, and ... sigh, :wub:Leliana:wub:... and not only does the world make it very clear that same sex couples are not treated any differently, Leliana as she is portrayed is probably the most moral person in the game when not hardened, with the possible exceptions of Wynne and non-hardened Alistair.  (Very similar to Kaidan's sole-exception status next to Liara.)  I see this as Bioware not only not having any problems ... but actually making a statement, one that I very much appreciate for reasons explored in the Waffles group, oddly enough more so than the Fight for the Love group.

-- And Mass Effect 2 features what I think, upon further reflection, to be plenty of indications that Liara either isn't covered by the 'same-sex romance' blanket (with Casey saying 'asexual' and clearly meaning 'monogendered' :P, though I wonder if we're up for another debate about that chesnut), with there being two asari mentioned with pureblood children treated sympathetically by my Shepard -- thus dealing with the product of 'same-sex' unions, Shiala coming onto both my Shepard and Somebody1003's Shepard ;), a few other pureblood references ... hell, lemme just say Illium is chock-full of references to Liara and Shepard's potential relationship.  In fact, in my opinion, though as I say it's just what I believe -- Illium is so full of Liara fanservice that Liara's presentation herself is even more jarring than she would be otherwise.

(I'd also reference a post in the Fan Club, but ... it seems to have disappeared.  Oh well, that was technically not a fact anyway, at least not a quotable one.)

That made me laugh.

I didnt even know you saw my Shepard.

Something like this, minus my crappy script writing?

----

The steel doors open, revealing Commander Shepard, as she walks into Liara's office.

Liara: (smiles) Shepard! It's good to see you again.

Shepard sits down in a chair in front of her desk. Her face emotionless, yet a little sad.

Liara: So... is there anything I can help you with?

Shepard is silent as she stares down at the floor, not know what to say, not knowing what to do... till she gets up and walks around Liara's desk. Heading towards her.

Liara:(confused) Shepard?

She stops and stares at her, then glances down towards her desk... and notices something she wore 2 years ago during the Collector attack, sitting next to Liara's books. A silver pendant with dents and cracks... The same one she wore when she died.

She picks up the pendant, and opens it... revealing a picture of her and Liara, together.

The photo is now burnt and melted.

A tear drops down from her eyes.

She then looks at Liara, and notices her eyes are tearing up as well.

You know the rest.

TMA, that was...beautiful. I love the idea that Liara is secretly in possession of some kind of momento or trinket that reminds her of Shepard, that she keeps close to her at all times. It's just something that Liara would do.

That big, beautiful and relieved smile that Liara has on her face afterwards though makes it all worthwhile. I love how she looks around at your second squadmate too!

I always liked how she sadly shakes her head. Well, liked in the way that it's fitting for the situation. But does anyone else think BioWare dropped the ball a bit from that moment on? Up to that point, ME 1 - in contrast to ME 2 <_< - did involve the LIs in the story after all. Once Shepard crawls out from under the rubble, the LI should've gone and hugged him/her or anything like that. Instead, the LI isn't to be seen anymore for the rest of the game. Another possibility would've been to make them stand beside Shepard in the final scene (the one where Shepard stands in front of the red or blue planet).

But I guess it's the typical BioWare romance phenomenon: Once it's "on", it's already over too. Curious, since they did it much better with BG 2 back then already. Could've done it again with the ME series, but, well... or rather, not well...  <_<

Also, in my opinion, did it well with DA:O -- Alyna Cousland had sex with Leli right after finishing the second part of the main quest and they're still in love in the middle of the Anvil, and so forth.  (DA:A I personally discount on the grounds that they seem to have Short-Round'd it to save time to develop the other parts of the expansion.)  Still, I can see why they wouldn't do that with that scene, the LI not only might not be there -- and they were still trying to justify only-three-people-are-present hard, so Lia, Kaidan or Ash could be on the Normandy, technically -- it'd be smart from a military standpoint for them not to be.
