We're only joking, Indigo. :P I have two canon Sheps, my DudeShep and my FemShep. My male Shepard was my original, but I recently tried out FemShep for the first time and I prefer her. Both romance Liara, of course!

Don't take anything personally, anything I say on this matter is not to be taken seriously, and I think the same is true for everyone else.

Anyway, here's something ALL of us can agree on regarding Liara:

So anyway, just a couple of days until we possibly find out about the Liara DLC for the first time.

How's everyone feeling? Excited? Nervous? Apprehensive? Pessimistic? Eager? Or just plain not getting your hopes up yet as you don't think this DLC will feature Liara at all?

I'm trying to keep my feet on the ground, and remind myself that this may not be be Liara's DLC at all, but I'm struggling. I want more Liara so badly!

For me, it's definitely that last one. Considering how Bioware hypes things, and they do seem to love doing so, I think the announcement of Liara DLC of any substance would have more snazz around its reveal. Especially for a character that has previously been proven to be so marketable.

I know how you feel Les, but I'm definitely not getting my hopes up. I still think it'll be armour/guns/appearance pack sort of DLC, but I'm willing to be proved wrong.

Well, let's remember one thing here -- the creators of the game are very much against the concept of the Planet of Hats.  They make a point of making sure that not every asari matriarch is stately and revered, not every krogan is bloodthirsty and violent, and not every turian is total badass awesomesause :P .  So it IS possible that some asari don't think much of their lovers -- or, to use our term, 'bondmates' -- beyond... hrm.  Actually didn't Lia go into that?  Sometimes they part ways after the deed, sometimes they live together until the non-asari partner dies, or otherwise until one partner dies in the case of krogan or dual-asari pairings.

And have I managed to respond before les has "how-dare-you"'d you about thinking of cheating? :innocent:

lol. Well, I know Bioware is now trying to make each race more diverse this time, so no Krogan or Turian is the same. Example, the Krogan that's a dock workers that speaks poetry. Or the polite Krogan that works for Mr. Thax.

As for the cheating part, I don't consider it cheating since you've been dead for 2 years, and Bioware never allows you to talk about your relationship with you LI, or break up with them because you no longer love them.

As for "how-dare-I", it was sadly simple. I didn't get "that" scene on my first playthrough. She had me hack terminals like some random goon,  and blackmailed me into helping her try to kill someone. And after all that, I came back and asked her how's she's doing.

She tells me she's close to killing the Shadow Broker.

I tell her I'll talk to her later.

She continues typing, and doesn't even say goodbye.

I realize I can't love this person. I liked who she was, and appreciate what she did for me, but that doesn't make me love who she is right now. I simply can't love this person.

You could ask "then why don't you play Time Machine, and don't romancer her in the first game?" Well, simple, because 2 years ago I did love her character, and still do. That's my history and cannon. If Mass Effect really is about consequences, then I shouldn't play Time Machine and make the perfect history, where everything works out in my favor.

Anyways, 4 Tali romances later, I bought an iPod Touch just to read the comic and find out Liara's back story. It was a good comic, but back story wise I hated it because it really made Liara's quest for revenge so bull****. However, after reading her fight for my corpse, I can not longer beat ME2, or activate Tali's romance. Instead, I just delete the file, and start again, then delete the file, start again, right after Legend's loyalty mission.

I didn't get "that" scene on my first playthrough either. But that didn't make me care about the other characters any more. I guess that was the intention, but it certainly didn't work. For that, the other characters would have to be written at least nearly with the same care and quality as the ones from ME 1 were. Which they aren't (neither are their romances, as I've later witnessed). I was just angry and sad how badly BioWare had presented my favourite character in ME 2, but neither me nor my Shepard had any interest in running to another LI. The picture scene in the end was a beautiful reward after all - could've been done better yet, and is in no way an adequate replacement for what should've been, but felt more romantic than any of the current romances.

Hello my fellow Liara fans!:wizard:
How are you all?

Again to the Liara DLC:
as morrie23 said, i won't get my hopes up. Just wait and see. Of course i'm a bit curious about the upcoming announcement but i won't get excited...
I still want a full developed expansion pack with a breathtaking story and real involvement of Liara.

But still... Shepard is missing Liara!

TMA, I think you overstate Liara's supposed "coldness" and "distance" somewhat. She's not as hardened as alot of people try to make her out to be, and when she opens up it kind of proves that. I wouldn't worry to much about Liara not saying "Goodbye" when ending the conversation, or the lack of exclusive romance carryover. It's just incredibly poor writing and direction on BioWare's part to not have Liara, who obviously cares for Shepard deeply, say any of those things. They thought they could placate us Liara romancers with the ambiguous "Because I couldn't let you go..." dialogue path. For most people who romance Liara, it certainly doesn't. I choose to sympathise with Liara, how much she has and has continued to suffer, and how she's forcing herself to do these things and be this person she hates out of necessity, to try to make things right. The real Liara is still there. She's just hurting. Badly.

Also, Liara blackmails Shepard? That's news to me. Liara is just being very honest and forthright about what needs to be done, something which she ALWAYS is in her reunion scenes with regards to her hunt for the Shadow Broker. The only thing Liara expects from Shepard is that she trust her as a friend, and to trust her that she's doing the right thing. Liara doesn't hold their relationship over Shepard's head, doesn't try to use that as a way of emotionally blackmailing Shepard. Liara never attempts to use everything she's done for Shepard as a means of getting her own way. She's just very honest and forthright with Shepard about what needs to be done, and what she hopes to avoid in terms of the 5 Observer suspects.

Hell, the only reason Liara brings up the Observer quest is because Shepard offers to assist her in any way possible. If Shepard didn't offer Liara any help, then she'd never bring it up. If Liara was truly aiming to blackmail Shepard, she'd bring it up out of nowhere and say "Shepard, help me with this or I'll kill these people and you'll have blood on your hands!" She doesn't. She only expects Shepard to trust her as a friend and potential lover.

Hi Derumiel!

Nice way in which you've edited that image, so that Liara's portrait is visible. Wish they'd selected a better picture of Liara, though!

If you're talking about the new characters, I agree. They don't touch Ash/Kaidan/Liara period. However, though romance scene wise they aren't as good, it was chemistry that won Garrus and Tali for me. They changed for the better, and I can't help but love them more right now.

Anyways, I'm holding all romance on pause till I get Liara's DLC. If I still don't like the new Liara after that, you can't say I didn't give her a chance.

Hey Les!
Was just a small editing but thanks. ^^
And i have to admit that I kind of like the picture that BW has chosen there(i'm probably alone here with that opinion, though ^^). In fact, they could have taken much worse images(especially those with bad light and Liaras skin color "changes"...). Although there exist better pictures, of course. But as i said, i'm quite satisfied with that pic, becaues while looking at it it reminds me of the events that happened in ME1 and the time my Sheps spend with Liara.

But there is no doubt that the scene is done in a quite bad way. It just lacks the emotion. Before you get the feeling that Shep really misses his beautiful Liara its already over. But that's just my opinion. ^^

You got this the wrong way. If you still don't like her then, it's because BioWare wants to have people annoyed with her and sweep her romance in particular under the rug. The writers *can* strew sugar on top of a scene full of rainbows and pink unicorns, they proved as much with the attention they dedicated to Tali. It's just that they didn't want to when it came to writing Liara. Personally I don't mind that, the idea of making things "darker" or "rocky" wasn't wrong at all, it's only that the execution failed so completely, it's almost like amateurs wrote the whole thing. But then that's the feeling I got at several points in the game.

As to the DLC, I suspect it may be an appearance pack or possibly more Hammerhead missions. Could even be a new weapon or maybe ALL the toilets will flush on the Normandy, now. I don't expect any Liara/Shadow Broker DLC announcement. If it comes at all, I think it will come closer to ME3's launch date.

That's exactly why I'm trying to keep my feet placed firmly on the ground, and not allow myself to get too over-excited about this announcement and assume it's going to be the Liara DLC. I'm failing badly, but I'm trying!

I want to feel like Liara does in my avatar!

Here, take a look at a post I made in this thread a few pages back that compares the physical appearances of the ME1 LIs in ME1 and ME2. Some of the changes are quite jarring, particularly in Liara and Kaidan. Not only did they try to turn the ME1 LIs away from players in terms of your interactions with them, but they also made them physically less appealing too. Take a look:

That is interesting. Kaidan looks like he's aged about 10 years. Ash does look the same thankfully but the terrible lighting absolutely destroyed liara.

I have no idea why they'd try so hard to ruin them.
