If they don't tie everything she has done up to this point back into the main plot of the Reaper return, or at the very least twist it so that her motivations are stemming from her emotional ties to Shepard I don't see much hope for the future.
But...they are, Nozy. Did you miss it or something when Shepard calls Liara out, basically saying "This can't be over some friend. What's really going on?" and then Liara's floodgates open? Her chief motive is her guilt for what she had to do with Shepard's corpse, her fear Shepard would hate her, her sorrow surroundng Shepard's death. That's all based around her love for Shepard. I understand you being sceptical of BW's writing, but what you'v just said is there in black and white in ME2.
Look I'm not going to get into a debate about this, but this is not "said there in black and white". What was given to us (little of it that there is) I agree "could" be interpretted that way, but it is left very much up in the air what her "true" motivations might be.
Is that because of lazy writing on BW's part or on purpose? Considering how the reunions all around where handled and Redemption I would say lazy writing. Who knows.
The only semi-clear indicatior at all that we are given about anything is at the end of Redemption which fairly strongly indicates this entire train wreck started over Feron. Whether they stick with that or not is still to be seen.
LET, I understand your desire for what you interpretted in the scene to be true, I want it to be true too. I honestly wouldn't say that it is definitely "the way BW will go" though. I think it is much more likely she consumes herself with Feron and the SB, breaks down in a dlc after we find him/his corpse, then goes darkside killing the SB and taking over his organization.
Would it completely destroy the last bits of Liara's character and is it completely lame and terrible writing? Yep it sure is, but prepare yourself for it.
